damn, not organic but still whole foods and can't beat that price anywhere! I know what WE'RE having for dinner senpai.
>>9412654
For that price I could get two for mes.
Guess which I'd rather have and yes you could say I'm lovin' it!
>>9412654
normally I'd say that's a good price for children's thighs, but the meat is probably made from cheap shitty third world children
If you stick to your staple "whole foods" items (meat, milk, eggs, rice, fruit, veggies, cheese, etc) Whole Foods Market is quite affordable. The quality and diversity of their products is a cut above your typical grocery store. They make it up with insane mark ups on organic vegan gluten free crap.
Best order to add stuff to my stir fry? I bought the following items:
-garlic
-thai chilis
-onion
-carrots
-celery
-mushrooms
-green beans
-bok choi
-bell pepper
-noodles
-scallions
i was thinking of adding the ingredients in the same order i listed them in hopes of keeping it all crispy, should i swap anything around?
I'd add the white part of the spring onion at the beginning and save the green bit for the end. Stir fry sequence is generally aromatics protein veg sauce/seasoning carbohydrate.
>>9412596
yeah im gonna do the whites with the regular onion and the greens last.
just want to know the order of the specific vegetables to make sure they keep a pleasant texture.
>>9412560
Hi. I cook Thai food at a Thai restaurant using a wok over a contained multi-head gas burner.
Don't put garlic in first unless you want that shit to burn, fool. Add ingredients according to resilience to heat, e.g.:
-carrots/mushrooms
-green beans/celery/chili's/onions
-garlic/bell peppers/scallions/noodles (plus water if you haven't pre-soaked your noodles)
-bok choi should only take a minute of heat to wilt and soften
But whatever, all this looks like a shit-show of ingredients. Use some restraint and some proper sauce, or else you're just making a pile of weird-tasting shit.

How rice vinegar, soy sauce, oyster sauce and sesame oil affect the food taste?
>>9412254
By tasting like different stuff
>>9412254
That's a big question
>>9412254
They say soy sauce is pure umami, vinegar will have lots of sour. Ketchup will be high sweet and a little sour. Western meat sauce like Worcestershire, mushroom ketchup, and a1 will have similar notes to all three of those added together. I have no idea on the other two sauces.
How can I defrost some frozen chicken? What is the proper way to defrost meat?
I've never defrosted something outside of leaving it in my fridge for several days
>>9412230
Never put shit in the sun or next to a heat source, just put it out a standard temp area (like kitchen) and let it defrost. With chicken ensure its fully defrosted before cooking, you can get sick easily with it.
>>9412230
Microwave, if it weighs 1.3kg just put it on the setting for 1kg then let it rest on the kitchen sink to finish
>>9412267
>Microwave
Don't understand people who do that. If you're not careful not only can you make the meat go off, you can end up with nasty food poisoning.

Does /ck/ prefer Soup or Salad?
>>9412098
Depends. Definitely more inclined to soup on a cold day. Definitely more inclined to it from a good restaurant that I know makes it from scratch.
seafood chowder if that counts as a soup
>>9412098
Good soup > salad
Salad > shit soup
What's the appropriate way to deal with this?
>go to restaurant
>look through menu and finally find something that you never tried before but either heard about or looks decent on photo
>order dish instead of usual favorite
>food comes and it's just absolutely terrible, not sure if dish is bad or just poorly made by this particular cook
Do I send the food back and get demand something else or pay for it and get another dish? I mean, if you go to a restaurant and order steak medium rare and they bring it to you burned and tough like a hockey puck you know that they screwed up and can just re-order, but if it's a new dish you've never tried before you won't know that it's bad.
One time I went to a restaurant that I've seen on a tv show. There was this beef roast that was covered in a spice mix that also contained coffee. It was featured on tv and seemed decent but in reality it was just awful, the coffee overpowered the meat. I ate the meat in the middle avoiding the crust/sauce, not sure if I should have done something else.
>>9411798
When trying new things you just gotta hold that L
Don't bother sending it back. Just have it comped and finish what you already have on your table. Don't order anything else. Leave a tip unless the service was poor.

Learn me on cream because I am incapable of understanding what it is. I googled it and still don't get it. Exactly what the fuck is it and how/which type do I apply to cooking? Can I use straight milk and some flour to cook shit like sausage gravy, alfredo sauce, or stroganoff? Would buying pre-packaged cream of whatever kind be better than just using milk?
I'm totally confused by it and someone who's knowledgeable about it and its uses who'd be willing to explain would be incredibly appreciated.

I can't because I have a sodium issue, it's usually recommended you don't even if you're a normal healthy person because it's high salt content

Hi /ck/,
I'm a university student who is sick of paying for university food. It's expensive and not that healthy either.
My city has a local farmer's market every week and I have several convenience stores that sell things like noodles all within walking/biking distance. Dairy products are also available although I don't drink much milk and don't want to waste. I also have access to pots, pans, etc. and an oven/stove in my building that almost nobody uses. I don't have a thermometer so cooking any meat would be a guessing game.
Can any of you culinary e/ck/sperts give me suggestions for meals that I can make at least on the weekends given these circumstances? I'm mainly looking for lunch/dinner as fruit/cerial is enough in the morning. Things that can keep and be reheated are also a plus but I know that isn't always an option.
Put on your favourite fedora and ride your fixie down to your local farmers market and browse the fresh in season produce. Chat with the farmers for meal ideas.

I do not own a fedora, will a cowboy hat suffice?
>>9411477
No, every euphoric scholar needs a fedora or a trilby. Browse eBay for one that takes your fancy.
