in an attempt to get more vegetables in my diet I have been buying those frozen ones that steam in the bag, and they are all absolutely terrible. Bland and gross, the only good one is the cheesy potato one which is exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to eat.

how are canned vegetables? are they pretty good or is it just a relic of the booming post ww2 canning industry we still have?

In my experience frozen is better than canned.

The problem with canned is that the long cooking time required for safety ends up making most canned veggies severely overcooked. things like green beans and peas are horrible out of a can: mushy texture, off flavor, and this horrid dark green color. Veggies with longer cooking times, like most kinds of legumes, are decent.
>>
Frozen steam-in-bag broccoli is okay depending on the brand.

Just hit it with some black pepper and garlic powder after you steam.

My wife is going on a business trip for 4 days next week. What awesome foods should I cook for myself while she's gone? I'm already planning on baking a peach pie, because she hates peaches, so that's pretty much the only time I can bake one. Anyway, I like all kinds of foods, and have the cooking skills, so I'm up for cooking anything.
Pic unrelated, sort of.

Eh, that pretty much the only food she outright hates, and it's because she barfed up a bunch of peaches in college when she had the stomach flu. Other than that, she'll eat pretty much anything. Although, if it's an unusual combination of flavors, she'll wait until I've tasted it first.

I think eggplant is good grilled but must be grilled whole in order to soften up and retain moisture.

what's the /ck/ consensus on these copper / gotham steel pans

don't buy a pan as part of an 'offer' that 'includes' a bunch of incentives to buy the pan such as identical copies of the pan, a satisfaction guarantee or any other bullshit

They are amazing for a very very very short period of time then spontaneously become terrible. The epitome of a great idea with terrible execution. Unless you take perfect care of your pans don't even think of getting one

>What's the deal with coffee?
How do you keep it fresh? I bought too much and I feel like it is going away. Wait, wait, is this why you buy grounds and grind it yourself so they stay fresh longer?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Coffee is like bread. You buy fresh roasted and grind it yourself if you want the good shit.
If you for some reason need to store it for longer, put it in the freezer.
Pre-ground is good too if you don't have a grinder and just want coffee. Just stay away from instant.
>>
>>9412970
Yea, I have the pre grind coffee (in bulk) right now and its starting to go stale or something

I might buy a grinder and try something else with my coffee habits...
>>
>>9412978
Put the grounds in the freezer and scoop em outta there in the mornings for your coffee. Next time buy whole bean and grind them yourself, you'll notice a difference in flavor. We buy from local roasters because the less time it's been sitting on a grocery store shelf, the better.

I'm going to live and work in america for a year or so
give it to me straight, how bad is the bread situation there? everyone is telling me you can only get white "bread" and it tastes sweet as fuck
are there any places where I can get real bread?
I also was told most of the coffee would taste like piss
56 posts and 5 images submitted.
>>
Yes, we literally only make and eat white bread with loads of sugar in it. Whole wheat flour is actually banned and the only bread that can be sold is mass produced, sliced loaves. Plus we only serve one type of coffee and you can't find any other anywhere.

I am making some pickled/curried fish and would like the fish bones to have a soft consistency as that of sardines. I plan on using my pressure cooker. Any one with some experience to give me some tips?

From all my experience watching animu and Japanese people in their home with a telescopic lense; you boil the fish with some vinegar.
