What is everyone's opinion on eating insects?
Recently I've taken a class and one subject was food sustainability. Pretty much we learned that the US eats too much meat from domesticated animals. Insects was just an alternative discussed, but it got me thinking about cooking with insects.
How would you incorporate insects into your meals and which kind? I realize this type of food is common in other countries less developed countries, but I'm curious about what people could come up with from here.

My opinion on eating insects is that it's done out of necessity. So if you aren't from a backward primitive culture of brown people, you should be eating meat, vegetables, fruit, etc. It's essentially your duty as a white person. I mean, our ancestors didn't domesticate animals for nothing you know.
If you could process it and make it taste good then ya, I wouldn't mind an insect burger. But farming insects seems harder than farming cows to me

Also there is no such thing as "too much meat" in America you heathen.
hey /ck/,
I want to try wiskey/bourbon/scotch. What are the differences between them? favorite one? I just want a good one to start off.
Also general alcohol thread
The flavor differences are subtle, and range from company to company. If you want to experience the actual difference between all three you need to find a distillery who makes all 3 to prevent taste variation.

I dont really know about the technical differences. As for the flavour differences, you could find a scotch and a bourbon that taste a lot more similar than two different types of scotch. It depends on the style and how they were aged.
Everyone has different preferences though. I dont personally like peated or smoky scotch, so I avoid Islay. However, a lot of people love Islay whisky. What I do like is sherried whisky, such as Glendronach 15.
I find that bourbon doesnt have the variety that scotch has (but perhaps Im uneducated). However, there are some really quality bourbons available for a very reasonable price. Personally I like Buffalo Trace. Its good enough to drink alone (although if I want to do that I normally go for scotch) and cheap enough that I dont feel bad putting it in a Manhattan.
So basically it can be pretty much the same (as a matter of taste)? going from that, what are you guys personnal favorites? As for the price, I don't mind going for 30 to 40$ (canadian) for a 750mL bottle (although that might seem too expensive or cheap depending on where you live)

Dude Im just about to finish off my 375ml of vodka, eat some sausage and peppers and start again in a few hours. Got any tips for growing peppers in New Hampshire?

sippin' some bacardi gold with iced tea, thinkin' about how I'm going to make some nachos.
I bought some processed cheese sauce in a jar that I'm pretty disappointed with, but I guess I should've known what to expect. As trashy as it is I fuckin' love cheese sauce on nachos/ fries. Real cheese gets all hard and greasy and shitty. I wish I could buy the cheese sauce that restaurants use. I don't have ingredients on hand to experiment with. Guess I'll have to keep drinking until this shitty jarred cheese sauce tastes good.

>Friday evening: drink 300ml of hard liquor and pass out
>Saturday evening: drink 700ml and only slightly buzzed
what is this sorcery?
Everyone has done some really dumb shit in the kitchen at one point or another, especially when we were still learning the basics.
>Trying to create chai tea from scratch
>Haven't yet learned about most spices
>Received huge pack of cloves from Indian friend
>Smells nice, let me just put a big handful in.
>Indian friend laughs, but doesn't say anything because this stupid White boi
>Mouth numb for hours
Another
>Discover this magical shit called a mirepoix that's supposed to make soups amazing,
>hmm, let's try to make chicken soup for the first time
>All is going well
>Fill with water and herbs after cooking mirepoix
>Dump raw, cubed chicken breast in pot along with veggies
>Cook on simmer for 2 hours
>This is going well, I think to myself
>Chicken now more akin to rubber...swallow it down in shame, choking for air because it's so dry
>Stomach hurting for 2 days because didn't sear chicken before dumping it in, poisoned my idiot self
Dish calls for 2 teaspoons of cumin, read it as 2 tablespoons... Worst white chicken chili ever
Not a big cook, I just lurk here. But
>Egg whites in microwave
Was upset to say the least, fell for the ol ruse cruise

Can we get a pie thread going? I'm addicted to it since I made my pecan and pumpkin thanksgiving standards. Now I want to make everyone's favorite pie and the most requested has been banana cream, with key lime in second and apple and cherry tied for third most requested.
Post favorite pies, recipes, links, videos, tips. Anything pie related is welcome here!
One of the best tips I've ever gotten with regard to making pies is not to drop them on the floor. But the advice has some crossover application in many other forms of cooking.
This is the pie I made last week, it was delicious! Homemade Saskatoon berry filling, and I've nailed pastry from scratch ^_^
Does upside down count? Made Tarte Tatin a few days ago, mine came out not quite as good looking as the pic but that's pretty much the only thing that can go wrong, it was damn tasty. Apples, butter, sugar and puff pastry is all you need. Just google for recipes, there's a bunch.
is it possible to make tendies from scratch, and if so, is it cheaper than frozen tendies
>>7184340
i have always wondered what makes a tendie? it can't be entire parts of chicken but a mishmash, right?
I swear to fucking Atheist God it's the same fucking person making these stupid fucking threads that can be answered by a quick Bing search
Fuck off

The Nasa is doing research on a food program for Mars, which happens to be plant-based:
>Purdue University, as well as the Johnson and Kennedy Space Centers and NASA Ames Research Center, are investigating approximately 5-10 plants that will be grown hydroponically to provide not only the energy and nutrients, but also the oxygen for humans habitating in Mars and lunar bases.

Do Europeans really eat this?
Is gluten a meme? Why is it such a big deal
>>7183573
If you can't eat gluten you shouldn't reproduce. Same with seafood. Sick of these faggots runing the gene pool.
How does a gene like that even exist? Should have died off a long time ago.
>>7183577
so gluten allergies are a thing? wtf youre meming me. i have never heard of someone allergic to gluten
I started this thread causd i overheard some faggot in a coffee shop go "OMG! When are they gunna come out with gluten free croissants' and i gotta say ive never been triggered so hard. I immediately put my fucking head down and internally raged so fucking hard
Should I eat a leftover maccas cheeseburger or PB+J toast for dinner?

If you don't use whole milk you're shit
>>7183561
>>7183561
I wholeheartedly agree. People that drink lite milk are pretty dumb, I doubt most of them realize it only has like 3% anyway. At least over here. Also it tastes like shit.
>>7183561
3.5% or more?
This is the best way to make popcorn. I promise you won't go back to any other way
>3 tablespoons oil in dark metal pot
>place 2 kernels, only 2, in oil
>put on med-high heat
>listen for kernels to pop
>when second kernel pops, put 1/4 cup of kernels in the pot
>constantly shake pot entire time until you hear few to no kernels remaining
>pour perfectly cooked popcorn into bowl
>drizzle on maple syrup and shake around vigorously, and put good amount of sea salt to make perfect kettle corn
Prove me wrong friends.
Or just eat it plain hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha or your way hahaha. People like different things isn't that STRANGE? What a season!(ing?)
>>7183448
>drizzle on maple syrup and shake around vigorously, and put good amount of sea salt to make perfect kettle corn
You're wrong
My friend made a cake with help from Betty Crocker. What do you guys think of it?
>>7183127
The San Andreas fault seems to have found its way into your cake, OP.
He also made it in the toaster oven for the record.
How do you expect someone to judge a cake from how it looks from the outside?
It looks a little burnt, very dry and the crack in the middle is unappealing personally
3/10 I fucking hate cake
What is in /ck/'s freezer on a friday night? What is /ck/'s favorite soul food, mine is coors and pizza bites
