I want to cook another meat pie like pic related, but this time I want to crack an egg in between the meat and top layer for each slice (6 slices). Should I expect the eggs to be cooked by the time the crust is golden? I'll be baking at 350

The internal temperature of your pie should be 165 whether or not the crust is golden. Tent the crust if you have to.

I made spaghetti pizza tonight.

You should try it sometime! Adds interesting textural variety to a pizza.

Best part: anything that works in spaghetti also works in pizza.

Hey coo/ck/s.
For this New Year's Eve, my brother and I are going to prepare a vegan buffet for our guests. Apple crumble with margarine, veggie salad… We're not short on ideas, but still, we'd like your opinion about this.

(pic unrelated, as usual.)

You're going to be a cook in the kitchen. If you work hard and are very lucky you may end up a chef someday. First you have to become a decent cook.
>>
Also.. The only cooking experience I have is cooking for my family for about 7 years. Will I make it professionally?
>>
>>7210152

Good job, friend.
Keep up the hard work and you'll go far.

Is there a reliable way to get decent food reviews?

Yelp extorts money out of businesses to get higher ratings, not to mention it is full of plebs who have no concept of value
Is Zagat still a thing? Doesn't matter because they aren't in my city
Are Google reviews any good?
The local paper keeps touting old establishments even though they almost all suck now or are too expensive
My friends would rather eat at Taco Bell than anywhere else so I don't have good word of mouth.

How do you guys find new restaurants to check out?

Pic related I want to go to Flavortown

If you don't mind waiting forever, Michelin Tires periodically releases travel guides to great cities. These guides include recommendations to various local restaurants by price and quality of dining, and they are quite strict at the highest echelons.

Unfortunately, these travel guides are rather slow to release, so only major cities have them at this time.
>>
Google or Trip Advisor.

Google reviews tend to be more...sane? And relevant to what you actually want to know about a restaurant.

And they have common sense about service at 6:30pm on Friday night vs 5pm on a Tuesday, so the ratings aren't as skewed.

how do you think google compares to yelp?

How can people justify paying over $5 for a Starbucks drink, but then complain that the locally owned place that sells a medium latte for $4 is too expensive?

Habit. Simple consumer habit.
>>
>>7209983
Starbucks or other chains are consistent with their flavor while locals change depending on many factors. You always know what you're getting at starbucks while the angry hipster is working the barista again and he always puts less milk in my coffee because he thinks coffee should only be black
>>
>>7209999
>>7209986

But the Starbucks Coffee is lower quality and more expensive. Wouldn't it be better to take the risk and find out if the local place is better, even if it means forgoing the Starbucks drink for one day?

What are some of the best exotic meats I should try? I'll be going to the Buford Highway farmers' market today and they have just about any cut of meat you can imagine. They have cow tongues/lips which caught my eye last visit. Recipe suggestions are welcome as well.

Chicken, if you can get your hands on it. The breast is pretty good if you can find someone qualified to make what are known as "chicken tenders" or what I like to call tendies.

The season is right for Elk.
See if you can get some recently cut Elk sausage.

I have a feeling there's a lot of indian and other southern/south-western asian peoples on /ck/. A question to you is there is an "asian" store by me pic related and I wanted to get into cooking these foods but too much of an autist to ask the lady behind the counter. What recipes and techniques would you suggest for a beginner in the art of Indian (and similar) cooking. Also what ingredients should a white boy look for that may not have English names.

>tl;dr: how do I cook Indian food, and what do I buy.

OP with more info:
I'm not a complete retard in the kitchen, and am proficient in other styles of cooking so this is more asking for food names/hard to find ingredients only asian stores would have. Also Southern Asia food general.

>Calling any food a 'meme'
31 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
Well, technically it isn't wrong. Certain foods/flavors gained a bunch of popularity to the point where it could be considered a "meme". Remember how people would put bacon with fucking everything and bring it up at every chance they got? And then there's red velvet cake, I've seen red velvet cookies/milkshakes/all sorts of other non-cake foods with that "flavor". Then there's kale/funfetti cake mix/sriracha/chocolate with chili/who even fucking knows how many other things that have gained a bunch of sudden popularity and are brought up/used at every change the person gets.
>>
>>7209873
There are stupid things that nobody sane would do with food.

When someone does it, and puts it on the internet, just for the sake of promoting idiocy and attention whoring, that qualifies as "memetic food".

For example, if some moron decided to put ketchup on fruit loops and claim it was amazing.

That is an example of something so stupid, nobody who is thinking clearly would ever waste time on.

That is "Meme food".
>>
>>7209913

I spend lots of time here, and have not seen this. But I'll go on record as not being the biggest fan of drip coffee.
>>
>>7209783

Drip coffee filters all the fats from the coffee, which results in liquid, acid shit.

what color should chicken eggs be?
17 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>7209751
That is a fucking odd picture....very odd indeed.

Also, it doesn't matter what color the shell of an egg is, different breeds make different color shells. What's more important is what the chickens were fed and how they were raised - that's what makes some eggs superior to others.
>>
Hmpfh. Wish I was rich enough to eat lunch off a person's back.

Anyway, eggs should be yellow/yellow-orange yolk on the inside with a clear white.
>>
>>7209751
>That troll pic

Chicken eggs can be anywhere from a dark brown color to stark white, to a pale greenish on the outside. The diet and environment of the chicken will determine both color and hardness of the shell.

Color is not an indicator of health. Hardness is. Avoid eating softer-shelled eggs, the chicken did not receive enough minerals.

Also, make sure you WASH all farm fresh eggs.

Inside, a chicken egg should be pale to ruddy orange yellow, and the whites should be mostly clear.

A small amount of milky bit in the whites is fine. Avoid eggs with an excessive milkyness in them, off-color whites, or broken yolks when they come out of the shell.
