Sup ck,

It's getting cold. What's your favorite soups?

It really depends, I don't want to eat one thing 100% of the time.
New England Clam Chowdah is right up there, but then so are Thai soups. There are so many that it would be silly to have to pick just one.
>>
>>7211248
... split pea too, see too many to pick just one.

Cheese and Broccoli Soup
French Onion Soup
Homemade Ramen
Loaded Baked Potato Soup

Treat yourself to grilled bratwurst on a quality bun with brown mustard. Sauerkraut is good, too.

>Sauerkraut is good, too.
I can never decide whether i prefer kraut or sauteed onions

Your buns a little short, though I completely agree you should never serve them with hot dog buns. Either serve 2 sausages on a kaiser roll sheboygan style, or 1 on a dedicated brat bun

>quality bun
that bread is basically just so you don't get brat grease and mustard on your hands, basically just a vehicle for delivering meat and condiments to your mouth
If it were a good bun, it'd probably be bigger and not just literally any random bread cut to hold something

So what's your signature dish, /ck/?

I call it Meme Supreme. It's tendies poached in sriracha served over carbonara with extra cream. Quinky sauce on the side.
>>
Rigitoni, ground beef or Italian sausage, cheese (the chesseier the better), prego Italian pasta sauce, then munch it...garlic bread optional.
>>
Chicken cordon blue stuffed with prosciutto and gruyere and I coat it in Dijon and mayo and then shake n bake.
I also make great Brunswick stew

What sorts of meats do you usually have with/in your tomato sauce?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>7210972
sausage, meatballs. if you want something different try pork skin. season with salt, pepper, parsley. simmer in sauce until it's like butter, spread it on crusty garlic bread with vinegar and top with a bit of salad.
>>
>>7210972
pork over beef every time
tomatoes makes boiled ground beef bearable, but ground pork enhances boiled tomatoes.
>>
I don't usually do anything fancy. Little ground beef or chicken, sausage is also good (either the lose meat or sliced).

Why are you greentexting your own questions?
>>

Boiling water.

More nutrients are made available because they're cooked than raw. The water is inconsequential. Just steam shit if you're that gay about it.

Color.

The same as everything else (except no dishwashers), then re-season every season.

Stop being dumb and just make a vegetable soup

Overpowering other tastes (mainly those found in lard)

Is sashimi overrated?
Had the omakase at one of the top places in my non-flyover area, and it was mostly unremarkable. A fascinating experience but I'm not sure I'd get it again.
Note that I'd believe that I'm just a plebian, the weirdest thing I've eaten are either sweetbreads or foie gras. I've also had escargot, but those aren't that fancy.

It is sliced raw fish, there is only so much you can do with it before it becomes Sushi.
>>
Yes, it is probably overrated. No, it isn't shit though. It is not going to be a mind blowing experience, but that is sort of the point. It is stripped down simple raw flesh of a particular animal. You get to experience its flavor with little to no frills. There is something to be said for that.
>>
>>7210888
I loves me some raw fish, tuna being my favorite, but really, yeah it's probably an overrated fad food.
That being said, you really don't know what a certain fish tastes like until you try it. It's kinda a hard thing to generalize as the flavor varies so wildly. I'd suggest trying it again

has little caesars gotten better or have other pizza chains gotten worse? i had little caesars and papa johns last week and there wasnt much of a quality difference
13 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I always liked Papa Johns better than other pizza chains. I like the doughy crust because they give you that horrid garlic butter to dip it into.
>>
Why did you eat two different chain pizzas in a single week
>>
haven't had papa johns in a while but from what I remember their pizzas are pretty good. Hopefully they haven't gone down in quality because I really liked their pizza. I don't think ive had little caesars.

Can someone redpill me on canola oil? Is it healthy and fine to eat? And if so how much?

I only ask because I just found out about how some people say its bad. I eat stovetop popcorn cooked in canola oil every day as a snack or dinner if I am lazy, and have for years. I've tried switching to coconut but the taste is different and it is substantially more expensive. I don't really care about the macronutrient difference but if it will give me cancer I will switch to another oil.

Everyone has their vices on things they like to eat unhealthily. For example, chocolate, soda, and butter

However ill recommend you to continue eating canola oiled popcorn as a snack but dont skip dinner or substitute with popcorn it isnt all that nutritional.
I also have been consuming foods cooked in oil as long as i can remember

Most significantly eat more green veggies
Spinach brocolli kale collards lettuce cucumber etcetera
Happy eating
>>
>>7210855
Just switch to grape seed oil. $5-8 for those big jug size.
Suppose to be the better of the common oils.
>>

Who here? Al dente ramen?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I prefer soft noodles that have had time to soak up the broth.
>>
>>7210849
I usually do them pre-al dente, I don't know what the term for that is. I usually add stuff to the noodles so by doing it that way it gives whatever I add time to cook too without causing the noodles to get soggy or mushy.

i tried to make a crock pot chicken/mushroom soup and it turned out like shit. literally tastes like water.

I took a 2 gallon crock pot,

2 chicken halves with skin and bone
lots of sliced raw mushrooms, jalepenos, habanaros, onion, carrot, garlick and green pepper and balanced it with water

I put it on low for 8 hours and then shredded the chicken

what am i missing? why did this taste like water and fat? why can't i cook?
35 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
Too much water.
Remember that the chicken itself (even unfrozen) has water in it that comes out while slow cooking.
Next time try half or even a quarter the amount of water.
>>
>>7210684
Never underestimate the browning contribution to flavor, or how reducing adds yumminess.

I don't see salt or peppercorns listed, and no herbs, such as chives, parsley, dill or bay. Herbes du provence even, saffron, lemon, something!

Chicken gets tough cooked that long. I get that you wanted stock or a crock pot meal, but you'll be tweaking it til right.
>>
>>7210684
You probably only needed a splash of water. Chicken has a ton in it already, so do veggies, especially mushrooms.

It pays to brown your meats before you slow cook them, too. More flavor.

Also, did you add any salt or pepper?

Hey /ck/,

I just got a Rice Cooker for christmas, got any good ideas?

I like those one pot dishes you can make with rice cookers.

Sear the outside of your meat of choice, throw it right into the pot with your rice, water, spices, a tiny bit of olive oil and a couple of cloves of garlic then about halfway through cooking, open really quick and throw in your vegetables.

Opening the cooker mid-operation might fuck up the texture of your rice, but honestly I've never had a single issue.

I'd like to think you couldn't fuck up chocolate and roasted peanuts, but Hershit's chocolate is so incredibly waxy and cloying it's hard to get through a bar without a horrible tooth ache.
