Hey /ck/
So I don't think this question has ever really been asked or at least I don't see it in the catalog.
What would you recommend for a starting set of pots and pans?
I have a kid who is leaving for college in a few weeks and it's dawned on me that he doesn't have any cookware. What does /ck/ recommend I get him?
He actually enjoys cooking, so I'd like to get him something that he'll use that won't fall apart in a semester.
His place has a gas stove
I'd like to stay under $100 or so for a smaller set
He'll be cooking for himself, and a couple other roomies. So, if they happen to use a metal spatula to flip their grilled cheese sandwiches, I'd hate to have the pan ruined by a scratch.
My thoughts so far:
Instead of getting him a cheaper set off Amazon that will be destroyed, we have a couple decently priced restaurant supply stores.
So I'd like to get him some SS NSF style pans, all the actual cooks here know what I'm talking about.
11" skillet
smaller 7-8" skillet w/ lid
10-12" saute w/ lid
2-3 qt. saucepan w/ lid
He's alrady getting a spare 2 gal. stock pot/steamer, and an old crock pot I have.
So /ck/, what do you think? What would you add?

Anon it's obvious from your post that you know more about cookware than 99% of all posters here. Buy what you think is best. Only thing I can add: It is always possible to cook a little stuff in a big pot, but you can't cook much stuff in a small pot. Always buy bigger.
Glass lids are really nice, too.
Would you like some dill fish?
