Most underrated sauces/toppings?
My vote goes for oyster sauce. Excellent on burgers, plain white rice, and anywhere your pleb ass would use soy sauce instead. Too strong for dipping, but a thin layer on almost everything savory will blackjack you in a dark Detroit alleyway and smuggle you across interstate lines until you hit Flavortown USA

Also an essential ingredient for recreating Chinese take out.

I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but I could understand how someone could be vegetarian for moral reasons. Even I've had doubts about eating meat while stoned. (DUDE WEED)
But why veganism? What's wrong with eating eggs and milk? How do you even get protein if you don't?

I'm an ex-vegan.
They get slaughtered anyway after their milk production declines and I'm sure it's the same for chickens and eggs. The animal food industries are linked.

Older cookbooks really do the trick. I also kind of prefer those to ones with photos. They're literally food porn to market them better. Joy of Cooking is really great as well as The Silver Spoon and Julia Child's books on French cooking. You know you find a good book when you find drawings of techniques.

Cookbooks are really just a reference. You can aimlessly follow recipes from any cookbook and not learn anything. It mainly depends on you to keep track of spices, techniques and ingredients to become a better cook.

This one has a lot of good practical advice on techniques, equipment, selecting ingredients, etc. and a bunch of good recipes. I also like how the recipes include a lot of explanation of why they do things certain ways, especially since these recipes (like anything from Cook's Illustrated/ATK) are generally not quick/easy.

What's the best way to punish a restaurant if you didn't enjoy the food?

Most of the times I just leave without paying.

If that's not an option (ie. too many waitresses) I steal small stuff like the salt/pepper shakers and pay the bill without leaving a tip.

Now if I'm really angry I leave a mess in the bathroom (piss on the sink, clog the toilet with toilet paper, leave the shit stained paper sticking on the wall, etc).

So in the spirit of creating some original content I've decided to make a /ck/ inspired dish.
Basically what I will do is take recommendations for ingredients in this thread and make a dish based on what you guys recommend.
/mu/ has made an album before so why can't we make our own meal?
So post some stuff and I'll go to the grocery store and buy them and put them together according to what you tell me.
Only rules are no overly expensive stuff like lobster or anything. Also it has to be a food item so no semen or shit or anything like that.
I don't think anything like this has ever been attempted before. Let's see what happens!

Hey Drin/ck/ers out there.

How much do you typically drink in a day, a week, a month?

Would you classify yourself as an alcoholic?

It's so hard to navigate my way through all these different guidelines and measurements to learn how to drink at a non risky level. I start worrying that I might be drinking too much, and to compound that anxiety I have ocd so I start obsessing about it to the point where it's like a panic attack and it makes me want to drink.

If you go over the government guidelines and say have 8 full shots of liquor a day, spread out between 8 pm and midnight are you pretty much fucked?

It just seems like a lot of vagueness and ambiguity in what makes an alcoholic and what is and is not safe?

what is your experience with alcohol /ck/? And what would you recommend to me? Is the government overly cautious in their standards? It seems like they don't even want you to get a buzz with limiting you to 14 units a week unless you were to do that all in one day which they advise against.

Whats an OCD anxiety induced lover of the drink like myself to do?

I would say I'm not an alcoholic but more of a problem drinker.

I drink daily. A handle of Canadian Club lasts ,e 3-5 days, but usually 4 on the dot. I'd consider myself an alcoholic, because I need it to get a good nights sleep. However, it doesn't really effect my personal or professional life in any way, shape, or form. I do have a dependence on alcohol, but I'm able to go a couple days without drinking, when necessary, without having any major withdrawal symptoms. Unlike many alcoholics, I'm able to cut myself off, despite wanting more.

Soup, co/ck/s.

Want to do a whole chicken with BBQ style spices in a crockpot to make pulled chicken.

My grocery has the traditional whole chicken in a bag, frozen. They also have a "whole chicken" unfrozen on a meat tray in seran(sp) wrap, like it doesn't have any form. The meat is all piled up, like they just discected the parts first.

Does this matter if I was putting it in a crockpot with spices for 4-6 hours?

Also, recipes encouraged.

Not really, I would just get the cheaper one in this case if you plan to cook it right away.

Doesn't really matter since you're slow cooking it and you're going to pull it apart anyway.

I would say just regardless of what chicken you get, season it liberally on the outside, under the skin and inside the cavity with whatever seasoning you want to use, put some cut up onions and crushed cloves of garlic in the bottom of the crock pot, chicken on top and a bit of chicken stock or water. Not too much liquid to start though, a lot will cook out of the chicken after a few hours.
