We were discussing making our own /ck/-approve online tea shop list.

>no sticky

Well then. Don't get mad at me for creating this presumably common thread.

New to cooking, first time on /ck/, etc. How do I learn to cook? I'm quite bad, and I'd rather start easy and do it in a very not time-consuming way. I'm quite busy, but I don't wanna get cancer or be unhealthy or something, so I want to invest a minimal amount of time to eat healthy, and perhaps, who knows, enjoy cooking.

Any resources, easy to follow tutorials, wikis, etc.?

Thanks

Is it true that 100% blue agave Tequila doesn't cause a hangover?
41 posts and 1 images submitted.

Not true at all.
>>
Alcohol doesn't work that way.
>>
>>7410198
No one ever said that.

But mix-to tequilas have a higher chance of causing hang overs. So only buy 100% agave. You're welcome. Delete the thread.

How the fuck do you handle excessively spicy food?

There's a steakhouse I go to and they have a hot wing sandwich. Well, tonight I went there and ordered the normal wings since I wasn't as hungry as all that. The sauce I picked was just one level higher than the sauce they use on the sandwich but
Oh.
My.
God.

It's too extreme for me.

What do I do?

Try to keep eating spicy food. You may develop a tolerance to it. You may not. If not, you know your limits.
>>
What I usually do is just go around through my daily routine without underwear on
>>
>>7408797
This. I lived in China for a year and before then I couldn't handle spice. Once you're exposed to it everywhere you get used to it.

I went to a lunch today at a really upscale burger joint. I opted for their roast chicken entree. Yeah, yeah, lololol ordering chicken at a burger place, but I just didn't feel like a burger and this place is owned by a company that has a variety of upscale joints throughout the state.

As I see it, one good measure of any restaurant, especially one with a premium label, is how well they do dishes other than their specialty. The basic expectations of any place like this are high price and high quality. This dish - "lemon and herb cured, roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts, pan jus" - was atrocious. The meat was tender enough, and the skin nicely crispy, but the sauce was totally dominated by salt, the kind of thing you'd expect from Red Lobster or Olive Garden. It soaked through and overwhelmed everything on the plate, and I would have sent it back if I hadn't thought I'd look like an ass in front of my coworkers and the vendor guy picking up the tab.

I dunno. I'd be curious to hear about places you've been to where this isn't the case, or from chefs about how and why this happens. I feel like any place that takes their reputation seriously wouldn't phone it in for any dish, no matter how much of a fringe item it might be.

also, about to try making cheesecake for the first time. any recommendations/pro tips? I heard it was hard but the recipe seems pretty straightforward. >look marbled like pic related

Pic related doesn't look marbled to me, it looks like someone smeared sauce all over it.

But yeah, marbled cheesecakes are a thing, and they're really easy:
1) set aside a portion of your mix and dye it with food coloring or chocolate or whatever you want.
2) Pour the dyed mix back in with the rest of the batter but don't mix it completely. Just stick a fork or a spoon or whatever in there and swirl it a little before you bake the cake. You can make all sorts of patterns.

What does /ck/ eat at the mall? I had Roman Delight pizza, stuffed crust triple meat. It was OK but was probably a bad decision, as it was bigger than I anticipated and I was too full to eat a mall pretzel. I should have gotten mall chinese and a pretzel.

Hey everyone, so I have 3lbs of stew beef I need cook up, but I don't feel like making a stew. I just got a dutch oven for the first time so I was thinking about experimenting with that. Or searing the meat in a cast iron pan, I don't know.

Anyone have any ideas what I can do with the stew beef besides making a stew?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
You can make chili, though that's really just a kind of stew.

Maybe some tacos?
>>
First some questions:

What cut does this "stew beef" come from?

Would goulash, curry and slow-cooked soups be considered "stew" to you or do you specifically mean to avoid English-style beef stew?

How do you feel about utilising tenderiser powder?

Do you have a food processor or mincer?

What about a slow cooker?

Your answers will shape my suggestion.
>>
Beef stroganoff is really good is a dutch oven. You can cook up your meat and onion together by frying it in the dutch oven. Then make the sauce, add some fresh spices and bake the flavor in for 30min.

While its going, cook up the noodles in the dutch oven and serve

i followed a typical recipe for mormon funeral potatoes.

but instead of hash browns, i used cooked macaroni.

was good.

main sauce components: condensed cream of mushroom/celery/cheddar soup, sour cream, and tons of shredded cheese.

there's lots of option little tweaks here and there.

What is? Double dipping? Sure whatever I don't care so long as you don't suck and lick and drool all over the chip.

That sad excuse for a chip, however, along with what I imagine is some sort sour cream-based dip? Disgusting.
