Lunch at Ted's Cafe Escondido in Oklahoma City
I've been eating at this place pretty regularly for about 17 years. It is unquestionably the best Tex-Mex I've had anywhere and the service is ALWAYS flawless.

What a horrifying existence that must be.
Usually it's at least a 15-20 minute wait to get a table but we beat the after church rush by a few minutes and got seated immediately
each table is give a complimentary "set up" of tortilla chips, queso dip, salsa, escabeche. flour tortillas and corn tortillas

>CUT THE ROOF OF YOUR MOUTH
You need to blend your bay leaf into a fine paste so it doesn't cut you anon.
I also sprinkle bay leaf powder on pretty much everything. It has replaced salt, pepper and Parmesan in my house.
We named our son Bay.

Time to make dinner tonight. Most of the stuff was harvested from a dumpster, some purchased and some 'gifted'. The sausages were going to be thrown out by my sister in law because they've "been in the freezer for too long" guess its time to eat them. They were given to her by her in laws therfore making them... well i dont know fuck. free to me.
Some cabbage heads (dumpster) carrots (bought, a few here probably worth 30 cents Saukraut (dumpster), Onion (not pictured, dumpster) and some potatoes (dumpster)
Looks like coleslaw, sausage and mashed potatoes tonight!
taters peeled and starting to boil
Peeling/grating carrots for that slawwww
dumpster cabbage.... Looks good to me. took off the outer 3 or so layers. Why not- its from the dumpster
Captcha= select frenchfries... fuck did i go wrong?!
Stella Artois is the most overpriced shit beer I've ever had. It's piss that's advertised as a fancy beer. It's a scam
What's some other overpriced/overrated food stuffs?
>Almost anything pre packaged
>free range
>organic
>anything that has 90 % of the box covered in 'fat free' or similar
meme beer

Eh I thought it was fine
I had a rather embarrassing experience today during an otherwise delicious meal at a Michelin starred restaurant.
For the first time in what must be twenty years I decided to try cod again. There was nothing I hated more than Fridays at school when the only option was cod - I fucking hated that bitter, dry aftertaste and the way it requires infinite chewing before I could swallow it. I have actively avoided eating cod my entire life for the fear that I'd throw up if I tried to eat it again.
In that time I've got over plenty of other food phobias and general fussiness - there's almost no seafood I wouldn't quite happily eat and enjoy. So today I decided I'd give cod another shot.
The dish that arrived was beautifully presented, smelled wonderful and was clearly made with the best ingredients. I took one bite and at first thought I was enjoying it... only until I tried to swallow it and those horrible memories from school came flooding back to me. I had to rush to the bathroom and spit it out, almost vomiting trying to get there. On return I managed to eat the few bits of smoked eel surrounding the cod and a little bit of the foam but the damage was done - the waitress had to collect an almost full plate. This clearly doesn't happen often in that restaurant - the look on her face was as if I had just suggested digging up her mother's coffin and masturbating over her skeletal remains. For some reason my excuse "I just don't like cod, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the cooking or the ingredients" didn't seem to cut the mustard - to be fair who the fuck doesn't like cod?
Anyway, long story short, is there any food that according to everyone else is mild but you just can't eat? Have you managed to get over it with perseverance? I for one won't be touching cod ever again.
>Pic related - the offending dish and a glass of wine I'm sure would have complemented it for most people
>>7535547
Cant eat bananas.
Tried again recently and the moment i took the first bite i knew i couldnt go on, i almost puked.
i have no idea why but something about the texture just dosent work for me.
>>7535559
Do you have trouble with any other fruit?

>I have actively avoided eating cod my entire life for the fear that I'd throw up if I tried to eat it again.
There's a term for this that I can't remember right now but that's your problem right there. Self fulfilling anxiety attack or something.
Things people do that make you want to quit cooking?
My father will never add enough seasoning to things, like if he uses the taco seasoning packs he'll put one pack into like 3 pounds of beef.
what about you?
>>7535470
Why would your dad's shitty cooking make you want to quit cooking?
>>7535470
Maybe you should cook for your dad instead.
>>7535470
Also, he might have hypertension and is cutting down on salt. Don't be a fag.
What's the most you've ever paid for a mixed drink??
Paid fucking $15 one time for a bougie ass Bloody Mary in San Francisco, not worth
$15 is pretty average for me but I don't live in a gastronomically blighted flyover state.
I don't really know the most, if I recall correctly the gin and tonic I got at the Ozone Bar on the 118th floor of the IFC in Kowloon was absurdly expensive, I want to say it came to around $30 USD but it was in funny money and it was a few years ago so my memory isn't that accurate. Then again the view was pretty great and they know it.
What does "bougie" mean? Is it black slang for something?
>>7535246
it's short for "bourgeoisie", it generally means something that is trying to be fancy and expensive but is actually pretty plain and trashy
>>7535246
Are you being sarcastic or do you actually walk around acting like some pretentious New England fuckwad?
Is there any real coffee addiction, or is it just a meme? There is opinion that coffee addiction would be real thing after decades of regular drinking. Can someone with such expirience confirm/bust that myth?
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15448977
from personal experience caffeine withdrawal can be very unpleasant, these days i keep coffee as just an occasional treat instead of an everyday necessity. once a week tops
Yes, you can become physically addicted to caffeine.
Like pot, though - which isn't physically addictive - most of it is just lifestyle and habitual use, and not wanting to give up the things you've grown accustomed to enjoying.
People who say they wont survive without their morning cup of coffee aren't the same as people who need to go out for a cigarette every couple hours.
>Don't drink coffee
>have a terrible headache and become tired as fuck
I want to die or nap whenever I miss my caffeine fix
>Got into fight with employee, might be banned from Chipotle location. Was I wrong?
So after church this morning, I stopped to grab lunch at Chipotle like always. The one near me is in a VERY busy parking lot. Often there are no empty spaces at all. The only one I could find today had this sign: pic in OP
My logic was that I was going to Chipotle, even though I didn't "order ahead". I either had to park there or they'd lose my business. I wasn't going to eat there- I'd be in the restaurant for 5 minutes tops.
I walk in and the whale behind the counter had seen me park, asked if I was picking up an online order. I said no and started ordering. She told me I had to move my car or they wouldn't serve me. I started explaining there were no open spots, and they are turning away business because I parked in a space designated FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. She repeated herself. I told her the sign didn't say they could tow, so I wasn't moving. She still refused to serve me. I told her fine, I was walking next door to Jersey Mike's, and still wasn't moving my car.
I then went next door to Jersey Mike's, ordered a cheese steak, then brought it back into Chipotle to sit down and eat. She yells over the counter "what are you doing, you can't eat that here!?". I ignore her entirely. She actually comes out from around the counter and explains she's calling the police for trespassing unless I leave with my sandwich. I tell her go ahead, and she walks back behind the counter angry. Finish my sandwich and leave.
Was this my fault? I'm not sure after all this if they'd serve me in the future (if she's there). Customers were bert-staring the situation.
You both sound like stupid assholes to me. You are the right one but if I was standing in line for more than 5 minutes listening to this tripe I wouldve told you both to shut the fuck up.
U dun gud OP
Shitty fast food chains only exist to keep people like op out of nice people places.
10/10 I smiled as I read this.
What is the easiest meal on a practical level, that allows one to perfect the most technical techniques at the same time?
e.g. it would be so easy to make a raw salad but at the same time you could hone stuff like flavour-balancing, chopping accuracy, presentation, etc.
I ask because it feels like focusing on hard meals makes you rush through all those little elements just to get a success on the basic practical level. Also this question is about home-cooking, nothing professional.
