SO THAT WE CAN LEARN TO PICK OUR FOOD UP

Because fast food and take out is universally garbage, and decent restaurants are too expensive to eat at every night

For me it's a matter of economics and health. I can feed myself delicious food that's pretty healthy for $5 a day if I cook. If I go out that will barely get me one meal, and I'd be lucky if it were healthy. So I cook.

Still, cook along thread because it's been a while. In this edition, I'm an awesome big sister and made the molasses cookies my little brother had been craving for a month or so. Enjoy!

Why do Californians think the only allowed flavors are pure oak and mega purple?

inb4 no TRUE california wine tastes like literally pure oak and mega purple, inb4 muh judgment of paris

Let's be real here. California does to wine what Wisconsin does to cheese. Anyone who actually wants to drink good American wine buys Washington, Oregon, or New York wines. Or just drinks something imported from Europe.

Because American palates aren't able to detect anything but simple, loud, and vulgar. See also: American ideas about "good beer". Subtle does not work when your potential customers grew up eating McDonald's and coca-cola.
>>
Every wine region has it's good and bad stuff.

Still, as an American I will usually buy a Côtes du Rhône over a California wine at the same price.

No I didn't buy it, before the insults and >implications come rolling in. A half a bag (about 4 ounces or 113 grams) of it was left in my fridge by a family member who doesn't know any better.

Works excellent in a salad with some Old Bay sprinkled on top, fresh lemon juice and a remoulade dressing. At the risk of irking the board, they are also pretty good wrapped in bacon and quickly deep fried, optional jalapeno and cream cheese.

How does /ck/ make risotto? I found some arborio rice in the pantry and this is the go-to use for it, but I'm nervous about fucking up anything more complex than basic chicken stock/Parmesan/peas. Any simple suggestions or recommendations?

Pretty much anything will work. Add some kind of cheese, meat, vegetables, spices that you like and go well together and throw them in there.
>>
>>7595611

IMHO risotto is pretty hard to fuck up as long as you are paying attention to it & constantly stirring.

I make a mean pasta, I guess.

I boil up some pasta, I bake up some salmon, chop it up, throw spinach in there, add some lemon juice, let that rinse a bit, then throw it all together in one pan and add herb cheese and some sambal.

He'd probably think it's OK

Doesn't matter. I cook in the proximity of my guinea pig so he'd probably rage at all the hair in my food.

I've been thinking about introducing meat into my diet, and was wondering the best way to go about it. My parents raised me vegetarian, so I've never eaten meat aside from fish. My nutritionist recommended sticking with chicken and turkey at first, but that's still pretty vague. I know my roommates used to eat friend chicken wings all the time, but fried foods upset my stomach. Can you prepare chicken like you would fish, i.e. marinate and bake? She also mentioned using chicken breast or ground turkey, both of which sounded like they should be pretty easy to cook.

So does anyone have experience with adding meat into the diet of someone who's been vegetarian since birth? I'm most worried about how my stomach might react to the meat, or if it'll taste good or whatever bc tbqh I've never had meat ever and I'm a little scared. Should I take it super slow with like one chicken wing with dinner, or would I be ok making a turkey patty in a bun?

yes, chicken is pretty forgiving on how you prepare it

>Can you prepare chicken like you would fish, i.e. marinate and bake?

Yes you can. Normally I wouldn't recommend that because it's pretty boring, but that's actually a good thing if you're not used to eating meat.

>>ground turkey
Careful with that. It is super easy to accidentally overcook it, at which point it takes on this horrible sawdust like texture.

>>diet
Your stomach will be fine. The issue with dietary changes like this are the bacteria in your intestines. They adapt to your diet, so if you suddenly eat a new food you never ate before--or suddenly stop eating something you ate all the time--you could end up with some discomfort. Take it slow.

a chicken wing and a small patty have about the same content. if you are really actually scared try some chicken soup first. get some base chicken stock in a box or can, add your fave vegetables and seasonings that you would ordinarily soup with. enjoy.
