uh, I herd their dumplings are good, I'm usually too afraid to go there because it's redneck central and I have long hair.

Cracker barrel is my favorite chain restaurant. And the only chain restaurant like. They're just so convenient when you've been driving for 9+ hours and you want something simply and hot in your tummy.

I always get biscuits and gravy with two scrambled eggs. If I don't want to eat that much, I'll do two scrambled eggs with cheese grits. Basically their breakfast menu is pretty great and for dinner I only really loved the chicken pot pie, but they made it a Wednesday-only special many years ago.
>>
Chicken fried steak is good. Fried catfish (if y'all got it) is great. Aforementioned chicken pot pie is good.

To be honest it's a really simple menu that accommodates most tastes, even picky eaters.

It's a rainy day. What are you drinking by the window?

A Polish coworker gave me the ingredients for this recently. His mom portioned them out - a mixture of egg, kielbasa, ham, bacon, and farmer cheese, some kind of sour rye broth, fresh horseradish to grate, and some light rye bread to dip in it.

It was delicious and I'd never had anything like it before. It also seems like, if you were Polish, you'd make it at home instead of going to a restaurant.

What are some foods like this that you've had?

How is this made OP?
Most Polish Co-workers of mine tend to eat a potato/cabbage/bacon mix with the odd bite of a gherkin on the side.

Ever have goulash? Real goulash?

My favorite is the Hungarian variety. Well, they have many varieties. This one is pork, kraut, and dumplings, with some veggies, all topped with sour cream. Wonderful comfort food.

Real gulyás is a soup. What goes for goulash over here is called pörkölt in hungary.
>>

Britchap here:

Goulash seems to me to be a basic stew but with addition of Paprika, correct me if I am wrong?

I have a tin of Venison Goulash, I bought from Lidl, haven't tried it yet. I would be interested to hear some viewpoints from REAL Eastern Euros (as opposed to Americans, who think they have a heritage).
>>
>>7650187

After reading the Wikipedia article, it seems like there are a lot of different ways to make goulash; families have their own unique recipes that may or may not adhere to a dictionary definition. Goulash can certainly be a thicker stew, or a pile of food with a lot of broth that still isn't an actual soup.

You should've used a higher hydration dough, and maybe greased it a little more before baking. It looks dryer than the sahara.

is there more to it than just boiled sugar? because i don't get the meme.

it gets its flavor from maillarded milk proteins more than actual caramelization so it has a different taste than just your normal caramel.
>>
>>7649945
It's boiled condensed milk. Not sugar.
>>
Think of it like a jam made from milk. You're confusing it with straight up caramel, or the creme de la meme that is salted caramel.

I tried boiling some brats but they tasted even oilier than when I pan fried them. What gives?
>>
I've heard it's a good way to cook thick sausages, they don't burn on the outside before the inside is cooked.

Still need to brown them in a pan a bit before you serve them though.
>>
Frankfurts and things like that are cooked by boiling.

I've never heard of boiling sausages though.
