I go to a Mexican restaurant with my wife.

I know what I want for my main meal (shrimp & chicken fajitas). I had been considering also getting a cheese quesadilla.

We already have our chips and regular red dipping sauce.

The waiter asks us for our order and asks me if I'd like an appetizer. I go sure, I'll have a cheese quesadilla.

him and my wife look at me like I have three eyeballs. Anyways.

I end up ordering a cheese quesadilla and ask my wife why was I so weird when asking for a cheese quesadilla.

She told me that wasn't an appetizer, that the appetizers were the things listed in the appetizer section of the menu. Literally the only things listed on the appetizer menu were like 10 different kinds of dips. What the fuck is an appetizer?. I had this entire time thought it was a small portion of some type of food to hold you over until the main meal gets there kind of thing?.

The appetizer list literally only had like 10 different dips in the list and that was it?. I told my wife what the fuck. We already have appetizers because we already have dip?.

is a paté you fucking retard

/fit/ here, looking for cooking advice.

Bought a 2.5lb beef chuck roast a couple days ago, decided to cook it in my slow cooker today. I scored the meat, rubbed in some spices, and seared it on all sides before putting it in the slow roaster.

With a sear, how long should I slow roast it? The slow roast sauce packet says 6-7 hours, but last time I did that, it came out so dry. It's been about 3 hours now, and it already looks very shrunken and juicy. How can I tell when it's done?

>>

Cut it open, ya dingus. Meat isn't a water balloon. Cut it open, see if it's tender.

Also,
>sauce packet
what did you dooooooo
>>
It's probably already done. Cut into it in a spot and try some. Better than ruining the whole fucking thing.

No generic advice please. I've already tried. I've washed the rice until the water ran clear, I've toasted the rice in oil, I've let it steam for the last part. It's not gummy at least but it is still clearly sticky. The only thing I haven't tried is the all out Persian rice method that involves and overnight soak and then towel steaming.

I'm sorry, you're failing at rice. You need basic and generic advice.

Use less water.

Hi /ck/, is it possible to prepare my own sashimi-grade fish by buying very fresh fish and then freezing it? I'd really like to try making sushi rolls, but I'm a bit stuck on where to buy the right fish. I'm in the UK, if any locals can help me.

It has to be flash-frozen in order to break down cell walls or something. So no. Any local fish market should have some basics like salmon, tuna, yellowtail
>>
>>7774593
In the US, the FDA requires you freeze parasites out of it if you want to sell it for raw consumption.
>The fish intended to be consumed raw must be “frozen and stored at a temperature of -20°C (-4°F) or below for a minimum of 168 hours (7 days)
You should probably just figure out where to buy it already frozen.
>>
I've eaten raw salmon from Waitrose and Sainsbury, they're good if you give them a sniff and there isn't that fishy smell

They freeze them during delivery so you don't have to do it again

Don't order pizza, anon. Here's an idea:

Cook some pasta, add some pesto.
Toss with lightly pan-toasted bacon cubes or something, plate and garnish with fresh basil.

Should make an okay quick meal that's hard to fuck up, and every supermarket should have the ingredients.

I've never been to either cookout or steak n shake. I see them both spammed on here all the time and was wondering which I should try out? I'm in a city where both are driving distance. Do you think one is better than Whataburger, my favorite place for burgers?

Are you limited to one meal for the rest of your life? Try them both, dumbass.
>>
You shouldn't try either one, so sayeth The Council.
>>
You shouldn't go to Cook Out unless you're drunk or need a lot of food for not much money.
Steak N Shake has legit burgers and shakes, but the wait can be a bitch, especially if there are a lot of tourists in line ahead of you.

the texture of shaped pasta is way better than those pathetically narrow noodles in the regular box.

What are some slow-cooker recipes that involve little to no action after their initial placement in the crock pot?

My fiance comes over once a week to watch the dog while I work and go to class, and I like to have something made for him so he doesn't have to make sandwiches or order out.

I've made pulled pork sandwiches and I'm going to be trying buffalo chicken sandwiches this week, but after that, I'm at a loss. Seems most crock pot recipes either involve extra steps after the ingredients are put in the pot (he doesn't trust himself to do anything more than shred meat), soups (not really a good summer meal), or are more rehashes of "shredded meat with sauce on bread".

pot roast is great

I also use my slow cooker to make stock. Throw veggies spices and bones in a pot, leave it for six hours or whatever

so /ck/ i'm planning to make white truffle & chive kobe beef tartare, but white truffles are pricey. what do?

Just read a book called How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger. Aggressively pushes plant-based diet, filled with studies showing vegan/vegetarians are a lot healthier when it comes to chronic illnesses (obesity, blood pressure, heart disease, cancer, etc.) to the point that they lived longer and had better quality of life until the end.
That count as medical need?
