Post common foods that look so disgusting to you that you never tried them.
Pic related, I understand it should taste alright but it looks so fucking repugnant I want to puke while just looking at it.
Once puberty started I became revolted by everything white and creamy, and temporarily stopped eating all milk, yogurt, mayonnaise, sour cream, and soft cheeses

Most Middle Eastern food.
Colored rice served over a platter of any and all available ingredients. No thnx

Do you think its the creaminess, the color, or the shape of the pasta? Possibly a combination of those? Do you like Fettuccine Alfredo?
ITT We predict food trends
>Fish sauce will be the next big ingredient people find a way of putting into everything
>Okonomiyaki is on deck next after KFC peaks and will soon be found in every Japanese and Korean restaurant in the US
Hard to imagine fish sauce gets the traction since it's such a foreign ingredient, unlike sriracha which is just another kind of hot sauce
I have some Viet Huong fish sauce I've tried using on a few things and I find it hard to believe that many americans would find it appealing on anything.
Okonomiyaki, on the other hand, could get some appeal in the US. Especially if restaurants did what they already did to sushi and cover it in sauces and shit.
>>7804795
"covering in sauces and shit" as in, moreso than okonomiyaki already has.

Do you even understand half of the things that you're typing, OP?
Parents say I'm not allowed to live with them and commute to college, so now im stuck living on my own with zero cooking skills. I've got about 2 months to learn how to make decent meals. Help a brother out /ck/? What are some must-have resources/materials for learning how to not die of starvation.

What's your budget like?
You need protein to live. That means meat and vegetables, your choice. You can get all the protein you need from vegetables should you so choose.
I used to live off of steamed red potatoes, carrots and broccoli. Saute some mushrooms with onions and it's a gourmet meal.
Buy yourself a rice cooker. Worth every penny. Buy decent rice (like Bob's Red Mill)
Buy a salad spinner. Salads are cheap and healthy, you can put anything you want in them.
Eat fruit. No cooking involved!
Drink plain water. I like distilled water. Avoid soda pop and sugar fruit juice.
If you have an actual kitchen (I had a hot plate and a toaster oven) then you can cook all kinds of simple things. Roast chicken is super easy and you can use any leftovers in salad.
Eggs are cheap protein. Hard-boil/steam them and use them in salads. Learn to make an omelet. Generally don't cook eggs over high heat, it'll make them weep on the plate.
Do NOT live off of pizza and ramen and burgers. That's just sad. And expensive.
Stir fry. Get a big cast iron pan smoking hot, have your ingredients prepped, put in a splash of sesame oil and toss in vegetables like bok choi, mushrooms, scallions, et cetera. Serve with rice (remember the rice cooker?) and you've got a great meal.
If you have a GRILL... let's save that for another post...
Don't starve. Don't stress.

Read the sti-- oh, /ck/ really needs a sticky.
Anyway, can you boil water? Good.
Can you sit things out overnight? Good.
You have now learned: Beans and Rice
Would you?

Fuck no.
I'm an adventurous eater, but no food is worth the possibility of painfully dying from it.
>>7809369
No, my palate probably isn't refined enough to discern the difference between this and other sushi plates.
No. Not because I'm worried about being poisoned but because everyone who eats it makes it seem pretty meh compared to tuna and other types of sushi while it is still very expensive

COFFEE. This is the only non-faggot answer.
What the fuck, I've been lied to. Everyone says nonstop that burger king is the worst fast food chain by a mile, so I stayed away, but that's a fucking load. I'm not gonna say it's some quality meal from an actual restaurant, but I'll be fucked if they didn't make me something that tasted like a decent hamburger with completely acceptable vegetables on it. And the fries weren't too salty.
What the fuck is wrong with the mcdonalds and wendy's shills, have they never tasted a hamburger? This was way better than any burger I've ever gotten from those places.
Again, it's not like some revelation in cuisine but I'm confused why everyone calls it trash?
i love the whopper. it's like a crabby patty.
The king is decent for fast food. At the end of the day it comes down to convienence. I wont drive an extra mile for it though i might as well go home and make something. But if its on the way whatevrr

They are required not to bitch like babies when you omit ingredients you are allergic to.
They used to have DANK sourdough burgers but haven't been there in a decade so who knows.
Let me hear your go to salsa recipes /ck/
Can't go wrong with a nice Tomatillo Avocado Salsa.
-2 avocados
-5 medium tomatillos
-1 cup of cilantro
-2 jalapenos and 1 serrano( whole for spicy, seeded for mild)
-2 garlic cloves
-1/2 cup of milk
-salt to taste(I like to use adobo)
Boil the peppers, garlic, tomatillos for no more than 5 min, anything else and the flavors will go bland. Add to a blender
with rest of ingredients, blend to a smooth consistency.
Pairs nicely with carne asada, tacos at pastor especially, just about anything.
>>7811876
I'm a big fan of tomatillo avocado salsa. Its a staple at our house.
This is a picture of my salsa quemada.
>>7811876
I just mix fresh cut sweet corn, avocado cubes, tomatoes, tomatillos, jalapeno, garlic, red onion, black beans, cilantro, and whatever other produce that I have laying around, and douse in lime juice and salt. No recipe really, just a good way to get some more produce into the diet and make other dishes (e.g., dirty rice) taste fresher.
Sounds like shit
does /ck/ ever make homemade beef jerky? I made a batch in the dehydrator, bretty tasty. I think I sliced it too thin though and let it dry too long, its crunchy. Doing a second batch now, will dry less this time.
Any tips for making it good? Marinade recipes? Best cuts of meat? I just bought a big lean rump roast and sliced it very thin myself with a meat slicer, I used a premade teriyaki marinade.
>>7811162
Always cut against the grain, ALWAYS. Drying and curing meats makes them tougher, so doing everything to can to keep them tender is in your best interest. Cut against the grain and use a marinade with salt. Salt will help tenderize, cure, and protect it from nasty stuff growing on it.
>Beef:
See second venison recipe.
>Venison:
If I want it gamey (I love that flavor), I usually use a simple marinade with soy sauce, water, cracked black pepper, that's it
If I want to take some of that wild flavor out, I simmer about 1 part soy sauce and 2 parts water with a bay leaf, minced garlic, chili flakes, and few tablespoons of dark molasses or buckwheat honey. Optional: add a few cloves or a pinch of cinnamon.
Cool that marinade, slice the venison, marinade at least 24 hours, dehydrate.
>Chicken:
Cook through or get a dehydrator that goes above 160F always.
I usually keep it simple with some salt, lemon, and cracked pepper, marinade, cook, dehydrate. You can also grind chicken up rather easily for a powdery jerky like that pseudo chew kids like.
>Fish:
Just cure it with lye or salt, fish jerky is gross.
>>7811223
lel.
that article was somehow very endearing, no homo.
>>7811196
I don't see the value in marinating for jerky, I mean sure some seasoning is necessary but dehydrating tends to magnify the marinade to the point where it's easy to over power the meat. if you're not using shit tier meat then just rubbing it with salt pepper and garlic powder and letting it rest for thirty minutes or so before you start drying it, is plenty of flavor
What are the best regional foods from Chicago? I know the deep dish and hot dogs get the most attention but I heard about they have their own kind of italian roast beef hoagies pic related and they have a blend of peppers they put on stuff called giardiniara.
Pic related, the chicago sandwich.

That's pretty sad, you realise?
My first thread ever on this board. I need to cook something simple, not so expensive, and high protein. I will go out to buy any ingredients needed. So give me a recipe and I'll show results.
There are so many cheap sources of protein!
Would you like ideas to get the most out of eggs, beans, or cheap ethnic store meat?
(Be brave. Chicken hearts are pennies per pound and delicious.)
>>7810739
I eat lamb liver, and I eat all those things. I don't need advice on how to get protein. I just feel like cooking something you guys suggest and seeing how it goes.
I cook this regularly - very little work and surprisingly delicious.

I put in some diced, smoked pork belly, too.
Going away and wont have much to do, you lads know any quality cocktails I can try out? (make myself) Just Give me a list of ones you like and ill give them a go, just need some ideas of drinks to start with.
Nothing overly basic like martini's, but anything else goes fruity or stiff.

Give me some unconventional ideas for desserts that use puff pastry.
>>7810700
deep fry puff squares 3 inches by 3 inches at 350 for ~2 minutes a side or until golden brown. Coat with powdered sugar and serve. Garnish with fresh fruit
>>7810700
you could try making your own puff pastry, since that's the step that literally separates anything you make from tasty-tier garbage
this, from Ina Garten:

Hey, /ck/
You guys eat mainly what?
i'm eat mainly ramem.
Rice and whatever meat is the cheapest.
Eggs and tortillas probably
Once or twice a month I make a large amount of refried beans and rice to make burritos and quesadillas and shit (sometimes carnitas to). Other than that I like to keep things varied.
I have some macaroni and cheddar slices. If I cook the macaroni and chuck some cheddar in there with some milk and butter over the stove will I get creamy mac and cheesy goodness?
>>7810098
No, you'll get a greasy, gritty mess.
>>7810101
>gritty
What? Do you know what cheese is?
>>7810098
No, you milk is too thin for that. If you have sour cream, that would work. Heavy cream will work too, but you need to reduce it a bit first.
If you only have milk, you need to make a roux or add a bit of corn starch to thicken and keep it from separating.
