Why does coffee as a beverage even exist?

How did people get the bright idea of picking the cherries off some wild plant, taking the seeds out, taking the husks off the seeds, drying them for days, then roasting, then grinding, then steeping it in hot water for 5 minutes and then drinking the result?

10,000 years of experimentation. People used to chew on the cherries because they made them feel a little more awake, and over time someone got the idea to take a bunch of those cherries and drying them out to keep them around. Someone else probably got the idea to try to cook them or grind them up and put them in something.

What I want to fucking know is who in the god damn fuck was the first human that saw a raw oyster and said

Fellow dishwashers, prep, and bussies. Talk experience with stubborn Ecadurian/Mexican cooks. Talk about that time you became an engineer and fixed a $5000 dishwasher. Those cuts and burns are war scars. Wear em' proud.

when I worked in Portland, OR there was a Mexican prep cook that was riding a new guy for being total shit. Well, the new guy clocked out of his shift and got drunk at the bar for a couple hours. Later that night while talking over the prep list for the next day, in comes new guy who proceeds to grab a large knife off the rack and WHACK. chopped the Mexicans' finger clean off. Lots of stories but that one really sticks out...

It was always a gamble whether or not you'd walk away if simple first-degree burns or be totally blinded

I've heard that high-pressure superheated steam can cut you like a knife; is it true, and have you ever seen it happen to anyone?

Damit nobody understands that if you weigh alot smaller portions are pointless. Because itll make you Hungrier and then you'll compulsively end up eating 2x an hour later. Drives your Metabolism through the roof! (without burning the extra calories to compensate)

What's the best consistency to cook eggs to?

If you pick the last three, you're wrong
65 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
Egg whites are the one food I can not force myself to like no matter how many times I try. Problem is, the yolk is one of my favorite foods. I love soft, runny yolks especially. The problem is, when the yolk is the consistency that I like, the white is also still not fully congealed leading to a mixing of the yolk and white. I just eat yolks raw with bread or as a dip for strips of grilled meat.
>>
runny yolk or bust
>>
>>7868175
Depends on what you want to do with the eggs. Usually I prefer the third on the top row, but if I want to slice it and put on a sandwich I'll go with the first on the bottom row.

We've all heard the expression "on the rocks" before. Are they really better than ice? The water in my area is unsafe to drink/make ice with and I'm thinking of buying some actual rocks as an alternative. I'd like to know your thoughts and experiences regarding them and how they are supposed to work.

>>
>>7865660
Just use bottled or filtered water to make your ice. Personally i would not use rocks when their composition is completely unknown. Shit could be shipped out of china and laden with lead or someshit.
>>
They're dumb as a brick.
>>
>>7865670
Wouldn't you just go and look for rocks from a reputable brand then?

Correct

They have started selling US chocolate in the UK recently. I thought I would try a selection. Boy did I regret it. This stuff tastes so fucking artificial it made me want to puke. Granted the shit sold by Nestle and Cadbury don't taste great either. But dammit you guys make shit chocolate. Swiss chocolate is God tier though.

How do I make brown rice in a bamboo steamer?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.

You need to buy a humidifier.

Would probably be easier to look up some guides online instead of asking /ck/

Are there actually any benefits to using a bamboo steamer over cooking it in a pot or rice cooker?
>>

>Are there actually any benefits to using a bamboo steamer over cooking it in a pot or rice cooker?

Nope. It's just a different method.
