I am going to live on my own for the first time. I want to go Spartan mode. Peasant mode. Day laborer mode.
How can I feed myself with 1) minimal prepackaged 2) no fast food 3) complete nutrition 4) not just plain millet gruel for every meal?
I know: beans, rice, oats, ground beef, chicken breast, potatoes, frozen veggies, discount aisle... What other tips? What foods am I missing?

Which country, all things considered, has the best cuisine? feel free to defend your argument with best dishes, cons of the losers, etc.

The worlds most prestigious Culinary School is in New York, USA. Chefs from across the planet fight to fill student vacancies for the chance to refine their culinary acumen.
Chef of the Century Paul Bocuse sent his son Jerome there. It's A+++ to the tenth degree. Nothing even comes close. The best Chefs in the world sow their oats in America.
While some countries have amazing, distinctive cuisines, it's hard to argue that America doesn't have the best food out of any country, simply due to how diverse the culture is, and how much high level regional foods are available. People act like it's a meme, but the US is so big and diversified that it legitimately has the best food out of any country in the world.
There are many countries that do particular kinds of food much better, but overall the US has the best food scene out of anywhere, no question about it.
Is there anyone on this board who actually genuinely enjoys Chicago-style pizza? I see more shitposts about how bad it is plus the 'go 'za meme than I do any genuine discussion on it.
The closest thing I've experienced to Chicago-style off the top of my head is from Uno's Pizzeria back when one was still in my area.

Is it possible for a chain to expand and become popular without some MBA fuck coming in and making the chain slowly focus test every individual ingredient to save half cents until it is total crap?
>>7892851
Only one way to find out!
VOTE TRUMP FOR MEXBOWLS CHAIN
I think that's the only way to go national / international.
There's a reason places like In n Out, Chickfila, and Five Guys have limited coverage. They have to source a steady supply of quality ingredients and maintain quality control, management oversight, and employee training.
>>7892851
Yeah, there are a few chains that have not devolved into such idiocy.
Popeye's Chicken, Rally's, White Castle are a few examples.
What are your favorite non-dairy recipies?

What is /ck/'s opinion on American-style ghoulash? I find it very hardy and filing and also easy to make, which is great.
I make it a bit differently than shown in this picture, however. Boiled macaroni, browned ground hamburger, onions, and a can of tomato soup.
>>7892675
Needs bell pepper and garlic, at the least.
>>7892691
I'm a plebeian with shit taste so I don't like peppers. Garlic may be good but wouldn't it clash with the onions?
>>7892692
Garlic and onions are similar flavors that work together, they don't clash at all.
I made cookies a few days ago. They were pretty good, unfortunately while baking they ended up melting one onto each other because I didn't have big enough trays.
Once cut apart they were pretty great, but it just annoys me that I might never have enough space to bake them all together.
Is it advisable to just put baking foil in my oven without any trays around it? How can I get around this problem without buying a giant tray just for cookies?
Also any tips on making chocolate chips in case I can't buy chocolate chips? I thought crushing chocolate would be good enough, but they ended up melting completely inside the cookies.
Is this a troll post?
>If you're using a proper recipe your cookies shouldn't spread that much.
>You're probably using too much dough for each cookie if they're that fucking huge
>There's nothing stopping you from just not over stuffing the pans
>you don't need to use that much foil, use put a single layer on the bottom or spray the pans with nonstick spray/oil

I need some help making pasta. I live in a dorm that only has a microwave. I make pasta by filling the bowl with water and microwaving it for 5 minutes, then stirring and microwving for another 5 mins. The last time I did this, a bunch of slime from the pasta oozed all over the microwave plate. How do I stop this from happening? BTW, pic related is the pasta I'm making
Also any meals that can be made with a microwave would be appreciated. I'm ready to blow my brains out eating pasta
Getting too hungry to wait for help. I'm gonna go full autism and boil water and soak the pasta in that. This time I'll add salt to the water
rinse the pasta first so some starch comes off ayyy i dont knwo
>>7892361
i assume you have a fridge so
1-soak the pasta overnigh5 to reconstitute it
2-drain off excess water in the morning. the pasta may appear white but thats ok
3-cook in microwave until desired temperature and doneness is achieved. the microwave should cook the starch out
ive never tried this, so im not sure the exact results, but it should work
why can't I roll a burrito, /ck/? I watched the sassy negritas at Chipotle do it a million times, what am I getting wrong?

Briefly sear, throw it in a toasted bun, top with grilled peppers, onions, and provolone cheese.
Hi /ck/, Im new to this board and Im looking for a spot of advice, Im not too great at cooking but I want to give it a shot so im going to try to whip up a curry using a paste, now I am abysmally bad at cooking rice, I havent ever cooked it and it turn out right. so I was wandering could you throw the rice in the curry pot and have it cook through properly to just sort of make it a one pot deal?
Yeah, I don't see why not. It'll take longer to cook than anything else in the curry, so keep that in mind.
>>7892089
Would soaking it first lessen the cooking time?
>>7892089
PS. You can actually just cook rice like pasta, boil in a big pot of water and drain when it's cooked. I don't think it tastes as good, but it's how a lot of non-asian restaurants make their rice.
>soda is so bad for you anon
>all that sugar is going to kill you
*proceeds sipping his coffee*
What did coffee drinkers mean by this?
I drink my coffee black. It's like 2 calories if I'm not mistaken.
Sugar is bad for you, but not in the sense that it's truly toxic. Moderation and a balanced diet will take you far.
What exactly do you think coffee is

Best way to prepare mushrooms for a pizza?
Side note what do you guys season the actual pizza or just the sauce?
I season the crust with this garlic bread mix I made a while ago.
10 / 10 I would recommend
As for mushrooms, I usually fry them in the pan a bit, with butter to sorta shrink em so they don't burn in the oven
>mushrooms on pizza
literally why
Ciabatta on a pan with a bit of cornmeal.
I usually just slice the mushrooms and let the oven do the work for me.
hey guys
I'm planning on ordering some whiskies online to broaden my tastes a little. I usually drink bourbon and some of the more popular single malts, with my go-to options being Buffalo Trace, Bulleit, Glenmorangie and Laphroaig.
I'm getting two bottles, a scotch and a rye. The only one I'm decided on is Lagavulin 16, but I know nothing about rye because it's proven hard to find in the UK. I'm considering either Bulleit or Woodford Reserve Rye, but I don't know if either of these are particularly worthwhile or if there's a better option out there.
My budget is £100 total, with maybe a little wiggle room. What would be the best bang for my buck? I'm open to suggestions on both the rye and the scotch, for what it's worth.
Bulleit is decent rye, Woodford rye is bland shit for people who like the idea of rye more than actual rye. Whistlepig is probably my favorite, not sure if you can get it over there though.
you mean bourbon right?
Also I live in central Kentucky. Woodford reserve is like 20 dollars here.
