Chefs will often talk about the fundamentals of french cooking, what are those fundamentals? How do I become intrinsically familiar with them?
French cuisine is regarded as the go-to, high mark of Western food because a couple people systematized and categorized the food, techniques, and how a kitchen should be run.

Does anyone on /ck/ homebrew? I don't come here all the time, but I have never seen a homebrewing thread. If so, what are you guys working on?
I make cider because its very simple. Apple/Pear combo
/ck/ used to have homebrewing threads, but now it's become a /diy/ thing. I think the /ck/ regulars all became alcoholics and can no longer put in the effort.

I just put it into the microwave and it's 2:39
Is OP a faggot?
You may not use a calculator or a microwave to answer.
Let's say you've just cooked some spaghetti and don't have a sauce to eat it with. If I just put extra virgin olive oil on it with maybe some pepper would it taste good, /ck/?
>>7901711
sure...
and add stuff like: parmigiana regiano, some diced tomatoes, fresh herbs, garlic, etc if you have
Olive oil is garbage. I'd just put a sweet-sour sauce, that is sugar + vinegar to coat everything nicely. Sugar beats oil every time

I have some minced garlic that is pre-packaged, do you think that would work?
Is it safe to boil water or cook food?
I have a glass siphon coffee pot and I need a flame to heat the water up in it. I have read you can't you use them on electric stove tops.
I bought pic related for $1. Is it safe to use?
We used it for warming up blanco trays, because we dont have an electric buffet troley.
>>7901612
You're sure it was methanol?
>>7901602
as long as you're in a well ventilated area, you wont have any issues except idk if it will boil your water.
This is ok but I'm curious, how much heavier are German knives and how do they do with thick stuff?
>>7901597
how much space did the knife have for momentum?
Watermelons aren't exactly that hard of a product to cut through, and most if not all knives should be able to cut through them; never mind japanese knives.
Was your knife perhaps dull? I see no other reasoning as to why this could happen

That's not how TL;DR works
Hey /ck/, I need some help
My mother has some friends coming over tomorrow and wants to impress them. She can't cook though, and wants me to come over and make something.
What's some nice food that's not at all messy? I was thinking some tappas-like thing
>pic related: good representation of her friends

Build-your-own crepes always seem fancy for pancakes and bowls of shit they have to assemble.

>>7901348

>>7901348

>>7901379

>chili
>no beans

>>7901286
Let's just agree that there's more than one way to make a chili.
There's the correct way.
And then there's the way where you add beans.
Chili?
I think you mean Chili Con Carne
>>7901294
He seems to mean chili con carne y frijoles

I enjoy making a clam pizza like Frank Pepe's, probably no where as good though
>>7901271
Most people will tell you either Sally's, Modern, or Pepe's is the best, but everyone who lives in the city knows the best is actually De Legna
And yes New Haven style pizza is the best style in the country

>>7901302
I was a big fan of pepe's. Never been to De Legna though. What do you like better about it?
What did McDonalds mean by this?

>frying pan for scale.
you know frying pans come in different sizes, right?
also, I have seen what you have at the Asian supermarket, but honestly I don't know what it's called. I've never cooked with it myself.
>>7901240
>Aspergers
That's cannibalism, anon.
Which mayonnaise brand do you use?
I used Hellman's but it is too salty, eggy and it hardly tastes like real mayonnaise.
>>7901132
Dukes, on the rare occasion that I have mayo.
>>7901132
I use Foodwishes mayo, whipped with an immersion blender.
If you live in country where you can safely eat raw eggs, just blend it yourself. It takes <5 minutes and you can make it exactly the way you prefer.
I like to go 20% olive oil, 80% neutral, and add a lot of lemon juice.
I use Best Foods because I live West of the Rockies, that's what I grew up with, and aside from homemade I've never tried anything better.
I'm trying to improve some chilli con carne that's lacking in flavour. Would adding some fresh coriander to the sauce and letting it cook give it a bit of depth?

Coffee, dark beer, chocolate and chipotle peppers are your friends.
I can guarantee you home cooks aren't using enough salt and pepper
