What are the main differences between Tex-Mex and Mexican cuisine?
What kind of dishes do Mexicans eat that aren't common in America, and vice versa?
>>7948504
Tex-Mex is characterized by the ubiquitous side dishes: "Mexican rice" and refried beans. A lot of the dishes have a cheese sauce on them. The meats used are commonly white-meat chicken, pork, or beef. Offal is rarely seen in Tex-mex but is very common in actual Mexican food.
Tex-mex tacos are typically made with a hard shell, whereas tacos in Mexico are nearly always made using soft tortillas.
Tex-mex taco: hard shell, sour cream, meat, red salsa, shredded mild cheddar cheese.
Mexican taco: soft tortillas (often two), offal, pico or other raw vegetable. No cheese.
Tex Mex is stuff sort of like what Mexicans know how to cook but they use ingredients common in America and they sell foods to appeal to the gringo. And it's fucking delicious.

Mexican uses more ingredients, uses more flavors, has a better food culture like street food, comida corrida (which is like an italian food structure) and fine dining. Mexican food has seafood which is basically non existent in tex mes
Tostadas are better than tacos . Deal with it
How are you even supposed to eat Mexican food that's wrapped up in or placed on crunchy shit without making a mess?
Isn't it just a taco that you can't fold? So basically a shitty hard shell taco that's more difficult to eat? Sounds like shit.
>>7948486
Tostadas focuses more on the filling
less filter aka masa
more versatile
Anyone ever tried lobster? I've always wanted to try eating lobster, but never really knew what to eat with it nor how to best cook it. And what about drinking with it, should I drink some corona with it? Or maybe dine with fine red wine? Saw some small frozen ones for only a fiver each.

Beer and Champagne both go with lobster.

"The four most overrated things in life are champagne, lobster, anal sex and picnics."
- Christopher Hitchens

I love lobster, but it has to been cooked right. Boiled or steamed lobster is the most boring way to eat it, and I really think it's one reason why some people hate lobster.
The most luscious way to cook it is to butter poach it, but that takes a lot of butter and isn't the healthiest option (but it's damn good).
You can also poach it in other cooking liquids, like seafood stock and white wine, or miso broth, or court bouillon.
Grilled lobster is excellent too, (and has numerous flavorful basting sauce options) as is chili-garlic roasted lobster.
I'm going to seoul for a week in a few days. redpill me on korean food.
I'm a big fan of black pudding so this sundae blood sausage thing caught my eye.
what else should I try? with restaurant/areas if you feel like being extra helpful.
>>7948358
I live in Seoul
Sundae is good
Samgyeopsal (Korean babeque)
If you like spicy food I highly recommend 오삼불고기 (osambulgogi)
Go to Itaewon if you want to be surrounded by scum of the earth foreigners who liked being overcharged for shit food and clubs
Go to Hongdae if you're under 30 and actually want to have fun
Gangnam is nice, I live there, go to garosugil (가로수길) for nice hipster vibe.
Live Octopus in gangnam if you feel like it
Avoid all bread and western style food it's all utter shit
>>7948358
>redpill me
Piss off.
How's your fridge looking /ck/?
R8 h8 and deb8 fridges and fridge contents in this thread.

>>7948351
>so it gets sweaty

>>7948348

Eats out all the time.
Sucks cock.
newfag here, need advice /ck
I want to make chocolate flavoured pretzels using what I found in my kitchen instead of buying a package, because I'm not a cuck and all that.
>heating milk to about 37 degrees celcius (to not kill of the yeast), add vanilla sugar and yeast. let it work for about 10 minutes
>add salt and softened butter
What is the best step to add the cocoa? I'm thinking about making cocoa butter, what are your thoughts for this?
just make chocolate covered preztels...
1) You're fucking retarded holy shit oh my god just make chocolate covered pretzels
2)You'd add it to the other dry ingredients
Just because I want to make something I've never had before doesn't make me retarded.
Would it fuck up the taste somehow or what?
Most disgusting thing you've done with food?
I'll start with a recent one.
>eat a pizza stick
>drop it on the floor
>pick it up
>blow on it
>eat it
>>7948220
I'm already vomiting, OP.
I completely coat my chicken whispers in peppy syrup.
Shoving various food items up my ass.
Yellow Squash has probably been the most enjoyable thus far.
You guys do put cheese on your tacos/burritos right?
Only on american style mex food. Otherwise not really.
I only eat tacos with just meat and cheese, maybe some olives.
>>7948030
>right
That was unnecessary and a poor example of English grammar.
The question mark should have come after 'burritos'. The use of the word 'right' is surplus and indicative of prolixity, in itself a bad thing.
6/10 for trying though.
What went right?
>GOAT post pub food
>GOAT hangover food
>so much chilli sauce and garlic goodness
>not too unhealthy
>cheap
It is pretty unhealthy, sorry to say. It's about the least healthy fast food there is IIRC.
Still incredible though, I'm tempted to get one myself tonight now. I will need some alcohol in my system though.
>>7948294
I ordered it (and some beers) so I'm bumping for doner kebab chat now.
>>7948294
>about the least healthy fast food there is IIRC
are you autistic or just stupid?
So... air fryers....
Are these things worth it? I heard that all they do is 'bake' food and not actually fry it.
"actually frying" would require immersing your food in hot oil, something which this device is expressly designed not to do.
>>7947941
Precisely.
It works really well for fries, just be sure to let the heat element warm up first. For snacks...It works aswell, they are cooked but they won't get that boiled skin you're used to.
Overall it uses almost no oil at all since it just circulates it around, even then it just takes a tablespoon of oil.
Do you flavor any of your foods with spirits?
I use vodka when making borscht soup.
Usually only in baking or making jam.
>>7947577
Rum is like a staple in my baking.
>>7947574
dont do that.
vodka has no flavor, except ethanol.
vinegar is what is added to borscht.
as to your question, i add bourbon to my chili.
Trying to get my protein in. I added it to scrambled eggs and that was a let down, a bit too runny.
Make a smoothie with the greek yoghurt and some protein powder if you wanna get more protein. Add whatever fruit you want. I would use frozen strawberries/mangos/kiwis.
It's also good to put a little honey/peanut butter in greek yoghurt if you don't feel like going through the process of making a smoothie and cleaning the blender afterwards.
You could also mix the greek yoghurt with some cottage cheese and put it over sliced tomatoes.
I make a multipurpose avocado-cilantro sauce with an ample amount of greek yogurt weekly. It is a delicious, multipurpose sauce utilizing a good deal of Greek yogurt:
>5-6 small/med hass avocados
>1 bushel cilantro (more to taste)
>3 cups greek yogurt
>1-2 tablespoons olive oil
>2 cloves garlic
>juice of 1/2-1 lime (to taste and as a preservative)
>1 tbs salt
>1 tbs black pepper
>1/2 cup sour cream (optional)
Blend everything in a food processor until smooth and you no longer see avocado chunks (alternatively, slice the avocados prior to adding to the processor)
>wala
I usually add a bit of honey to mine. Granola if I have itbb
What dishes do I use Basil in? Any recipes or ideas?
Anything Italian.
Also I really like making a slaw with basil and cilantro (plus rice vinegar, lime and salt) and putting that on tacos and burritos. Doesn't sound awesome but I assure you it is
>>7947524
Pistaccio pesto
Tomato soup served with grilled cheese sandwiches.
Thinking about buying a wok.
I already know I want a carbon steel one but preseasoned or no?
I don't mind doing the work to get that patina going but it's pretty much 2 to 3 dollar difference.
Also, any recommendations or things to avoid?
I think they all come pre-seasoned.
Just heat up some oil in it and swirl it around
They have wok pans at Ikea for like 20 bucks, get one of those
>>7947471
Whats special about them?
>IPAs
>stouts
>lagers
>tequila
>thing I don't like
If you don't like bitter beers, you don't like bitter beers. Buying into the backlash is just as faggoty as buying into the hype.
