Your pic is of a fava bean pod. In which case, the edible bean part would apply to the bean that is encased in both the tough outer pod and the inner individual pods, which both need to be removed before you can cook the beans.
Fava beans are GOAT, but fresh ones take a long time to prep.

i have done this very thing before and my family enjoyed it. get some jalapenos and spring onions and herbs in there to cut the richness.

it'll work just fine, except it will taste like chili, and I really don't like the texture of beans mixed with pasta(except in soup)

it's more than likely cooked with the same rub they use for their dry slabs. they might mop on a near end of cooking to caramelize and add a little more when they pull em. if you want to taste a regions ribs it's best to get dry and add sauce yourself. my opinion
