I'm not sure if it's the same as the slapchop, but I've got a small veggie dicer in the house. Good for mincing onions and garlic. Don't use it that much because it's buried behind a pile of shit in a cabinet

I have nothing against vegans. I have nothing against vegetables. But there are limits. Celery is a cruel mockery of food. Smells like grass, tastes like bitter grass, and contributes nothing to the enjoyment of life.

But "Oh", you say, "it has zero calories! You can eat all you want!"

Eating absolutely none of it satisfies the latter condition. And in order to stomach it, you have to add something that actually HAS flavour to it such as cheese or peanut butter, which invalidates the first condition.

You know what I'd rather have than celery with cheese? Cheese.

You know what I'd rather have with celery with peanut butter? Peanut butter.

I don't want it in a salad where, at best, it provides a little crunch. Using fresh ingredients keeps a salad crunchy, and if you want to add more vegetal crunch, there's water chestnuts.

I don't want it in a soup where it serves merely as a placeholder where a real ingredient could have lived, like a bit of carrot, a pea, or a bit of chicken. Tossing something watery into something watery just makes the less watery thing more watery. Nasty.

And no, Dr. Brown, I don't want celery "flavour" in a soda. I'd try it once though out of pure horrific curiosity. I'm just not sure I'd actually waste money on the "privilege", since I've seen it in stores and have failed to try it so far.

I am so exceedingly ungrateful for celery, you can't even imagine.

His chicken tikka masala is absolutely restaurant quality and was the best tasting food I've ever made IMO.

Every single recipe of his I've ever tried has been good with the exception of his white bean chili which had no flavor.

Does anyone here feed any children? Whether it be siblings, your own offspring, babysitting, whatever. If so, what do you feed them? Do they eat anything that's gross or that they don't like but that you feed them anyways?

My sister feeds her kids chicken nuggets and hot dogs. You know, developing palletts or whatnot, they just can't eat anything else. They go yuck or whatever. I don't get feeding them so much diverse food at that point, at least until they're like a teenager where they can appreciate those foods. But at that time they're so rebelious they eat nothing but fast food.

What's the best way to go about it?


TL;DR: Cooking for kids.

A family friendly thread in one of the boards with the most parents and "normies" (I'm using this term positively) is pretty cool. I think it'll go well here. :D

I'm fairly new to /ck having only really been lurking here for the past 5 months.
This board is weird because unlike other boards a lot of posters don't really know what they are on about (I'm a chef) or just post blatant rubbish.
Would it be a good idea if the board was split into two distinctive entities? One for pure cooking and the other for general discussion about food. This would allow people with a genuine interest in cooking (/ck/) to swap ideas and advice but also give the kids somewhere to talk about junk food and fast food outlets (/fo/).
Naturally the /ck/ board could have a sticky which I and other members of the IRC community would be happy to contribute to and maybe a link to /tv/ so the Youtube "celebrity" fans and other "Rebecca Black" fan types have somewhere to post.
What do you think, /ck/?

How do I get /fit/ if everyone is telling me to eat less carbs?

Literally all of south indian food is just rice in different forms. I can get my protein with dal, beans, and whey, but cutting carbs is a problem. what do?

So I, like most sophisticated Nu-males, enjoy trying various exotic regional cuisines. Obviously I know that American Chinese food isn't authentic and has basically nothing to do with actual Chinese cooking, but why is it so fucking impossible to find "real" Chinese food? I live in Manhattan. We have Ethiopian, Turkish, Yemeni, Cambodian, Mongolian, Korean, Thai, Colombian, Argentinian, Persian, Malaysian, Japanese, English, French, Hungarian, Peruvian, fucking every kind of restaurant in and around my neighborhood, but every time I ask someone about a fancy Chinese restaurant, they always tell me it's not "real" Chinese food. Well what the fuck IS real Chinese food and why is it impossible to find in America? Is it literally made of cocaine and dead babies?

I can't tell you why it's so difficult or where to find a good one, but I can tell you how to spot a "fake" one.
In China they eat very few rice in restaurants. When I was there I had to ask several times until I actually got some, because I was sick of all the meat they put on the table.
