What is the "best" dish at your average american chinese restaurant?

All my retarded friends always order pork fried rice or sweet and sour pork, fucking disgusting.
12 posts and 0 images submitted.
>>
Dishes can vary widely depending on the joint, usually combo fried rice can never be fucked up that bad. Sweet & sour pork is similar in that regard.
>>
Safe mode:
Beef and broccoli
Orange chicken
Sweet and sour pork

Adventurous mode:
General Taos
Beef lo mien
Plum Chicken

Dangerous Mode:
Any kind of curry
Sweet and sour soup
Dim sum

Honestly most chinese food as all the fucking same like mexican food. it's noddles or rice, some kind of meat, some kind of veg, and some kind of pungent sauce that is usually really sugary.

>All my retarded friends always order pork fried rice or sweet and sour pork, fucking disgusting.
Two items few people make at home, and therefore, exciting to get when dining out, in that not-so-healthy excitement kind of way, though it's not adventurous, it's a solid enjoyment thing.

Chinese food that is more fussy/labor intensive is what I get when I done out, but I don't relegate Chinese EVER into some kind of haute cuisine to be done right or you fail (like you), lol.
Shumai or steamed buns or if they rumaki (old pupu platter item)
chicken corn soup or something else atypical if offered
Pork with preserved mustard greens or pickled vegetables
filet, if it's served sizzling and sweet salty, or else orange beef
Salt and pepper lobster
sauteed long beans or baby bok choy

As far as sweet and sour pork, it can be done really well, with nice fresh pineapple in the sauce, and tender pork, or it can be horrible tough. Same for "honey chicken" or general tsaos, which can be VERY good at the right place :) If I am looking for spicy, I'll add paste to my plate, or go dine somewhere else like thai or vietnamese.

Hey /ck/, I found some milk in my fridge that I didn't know I had. It says it's expired but it looks fine.

Are milk expiry dates real, or are they just suggestions like most other bb/ma dates?
18 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>8161111
I think you are confused.
That is a bag.
Milk does not come in bags, that is probably some kind of industrial lubricant.
>>
>>8161111
Expiry dates usually refer to milk that has been opened. It's harmless to try it, if it's slightly sour then you know. If you're a real pussy just smell it.

Are there any options for making a cheapo even temporary chocolate mold? I have already seen the silicone option, I'm not really gonna be making chocolates anymore so I'm not really fond of a one time purchase

I'm not too interested in making too intricate a design, just animal shapes or something

Muffin tin, muffin liners, small glasses, etc.

What the fuck are you even asking. You answered your own question. You want animal shapes and you've seen silicone molds. Boom
>>
just get the clear plastic molds. They are like $2 each and have so many thousands to choose from. You would spend more than that trying to make your own plus they look better than what you would make.

Espresso is really the only way to drink quality beans.
If they're subpar, then there's no shame in having something like an americano or latte or a drip-coffee.

So one of these recently opened up near me. Its crazy cheap, but not everything is really cheap and some stuff is so bad that its not worth buying here.

What should I definitely buy here and what should I definitely buy at a real grocery store?

So far all the spices look like they should be avoided, whole or shredded cheese isn't a good buy, but the produce they do carry all seems to be a better deal. They're lemons have the most number of seeds I've ever had in a lemon tho which can get annoying.

What's with their weird cattle call floor plan? Like when I end up leaving because they dont have any brands for my girlfriend, or quality produce/cooking ingredients for me, it makes it really hard to just leave.
Reminds me of being in line at Disney or something
>>
>all the spices look like they should be avoided
Euro living in USica here.
The paprika is the best bang-for-the-buck paprika I've had in the US so far. It doesn't quite compare to the proper stuff from back home, but it comes pretty close. If the good stuff from home is 10/10 and Pride of Szeged brand here in the US is 9/10, Aldi storebrand paprika is about 8-8,5/10.
I can't speak to the relative quality of the chili powder and cumin powder as none are typical of my native kitchen and I am therefore not nearly as familiar with them as I am with paprika, but they're both pretty good, IMO. I use them to make chili.

>whole or shredded cheese isn't a good buy
Not quite. Depends on the cheese. They have import cheeses that are the same high quality European stuff sold at more highly-regarded stores but at a fraction of the price. The American-made cheeses, however, I can get cheaper elsewhere except for the American parmesan (which tastes more like the Czech grana moravia cheese than parmesan). That parmesan is also quite good and quite cheap.
>the produce they do carry all seems to be a better deal
Again, it depends. The zucchini and mushrooms are usually a good deal as are the cucumbers but I've horrible luck with the onions. They rot more quickly than onions from other stores because Aldi, regardless of which location I've been to, stores them very near the potatoes. Potatoes and onions react with one another when stored in close proximity, making both rot more quickly than they would were they stored separately.
I can generally get a better deal on most other produce elsewhere, especially fruit (other than banana).

My most recent big purchase was imported Italian smoked porchetta which was very cheap at $8/lb (the hoity toity store nearby sells the same stuff for $25.99/lb). The original price was $14/lb but they marked it down. They're sold in quarter pound vac packs, perfect for freezing, so I bought 5lbs of it.

see what you do is you go and offer to get a guy a pop from the bar, but what you really do is open up a packet of hotsauce, put a straw in it, and put that in the drink so when he goes to take a sip of it he gets a bunch of hotsauce straight to the lungs, thats how you get revenge on mister tactical spoon.
>>
>>8160517
Nah nah nah.
What you do is you get a pair of the hottest hot sauce packets you can find, then tuck them under the toilet seat of the men's bathroom in the disabled stall. Make sure they're doubled over/folded in half and both ends are pointed toward the bowl.
Guy sits down, packets break, hotsauce all over his ass. He tries to wipe it off? Bam, hotsauce on anus.
