Any tips on making the greatest sheperd's pie?
I'm currently slow cooking a huge chuck piece with onion soup mix and some veggies. I'll be pulling it with a fork after 6h hours and putting it at the bottom. This will make for some very tasty meat.
I just need a way to make the corn and potato part as delicious. I thought I could put some grated cheese on top and put it on broil towards the end.
>>8260789
Your doing it wrong and every part. Also it's not a shepherds pie unless it's lamb. If your using beef then call it by the proper. A cottage pie.
>>8260798
is correct, and also lose the corn entirely. The trick to the potatoes is that they're whipped, not mashed, and give it a little butter spread over the top if you want to cheat at golden-brown ness.
How do I get my pancakes this fluffy?
Do japanese pancakes even taste good?
>put pancake mix in rice cooker
>have giant fluffy pancakes
don't overcook though
>>8259569
Personally, I'm not fond of them. It's too sweet and dry. I prefer buttermilk pancakes all the way.
Watch Flying Witch. Literally an entire episode on pancakes. But I'm not telling you which.
What's the last meal you ate and does it well represent your average meal? For me it was a PB&B, and sadly yes
>>8263322
NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF OP. SOLID MIX OF MACROS AND GOOD FOR YOU TOO BOOT. MY LAST MEAL WAS SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE AND THAT IS VERY ATYPICAL OF ME AS I RARELY EAT PASTA.
I dont like peanut butter and banana
I usually make a triple decker toasted peanut butter sandwich when drunk though. sometimes a triple pb&j if I got a sweet craving
last meal was chicken piccata and yes I usually cook shit like that when I have the time
Domino's nigga. Yeah this order pretty much sums up my entire life

Pro tip: ask for extra lettuce for these tacos.
There truly is nothing better at 2am.

Help me out here /ck/: what drinks should I order in a restaurant?
Whenever I visit a restaurant I'm always hesitant on what to order for drinks. Usually, I'll just go for a glass of cold water with lemon but unfortunately the lemons restaurants use are fucking disgusting and plain water from restaurants taste like sewage (I live in America).
I used to drink soda but that's a complete meme (fills you up, tons of sugar and is bad for you). I used to order ice tea but that's pretty much the same shit, just not carbonated.
Also I'm not a big fan of beer.
Order Juice or something, I'd suggest something more like Cider, but if you're health concious maybe you can just ask them to water down some juice or something.
>>8266036
I'm not really health conscious, I just don't want to ingest too much sugar due to abnormally high blood sugar.
>>8266045
Ah, I'd say maybe sparkingly water if you know if it's purified but I'm pretty sure that shit is rare. I only know like 2 places in my town that does it.
I'm coming here for some ideas as to what to cook next in my barracks room. My "kitchen" is basically a hot plate with a set of pots and pans and a half sink, microwave and full sized fridge. I've bought a rice cooker to assist with cooking rice since I only have a single hot plate.
I essentially end up making the same dish every day just a slightly different variation and am wanting to branch out. I grew up eating rice and peppers so it's easy for me to go to the commissary, pick them up and throw them into a dish with chicken or beef on top and call it a meal, which is essentially what I do.
My biggest concern is the complete lack of kitchen space and tools that I have since I live in the barracks but I think I've managed to do fine. Just looking for new ideas, I'd like to dabble into mushrooms and potatoes. I would love if there is a simple Italian dish I could whip up (is chicken marsala all that hard if you buy the wine premade?) since the most Italian thing around here is Olive Garden.
Pics are basically a few dishes that I've made so far. Trying to keep it all protein dense and relatively healthy and cheap.
Thanks
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
HAVE A HAPPY VETERANS DAY
GOD BLESS
Alright bud, I've got you. Ex Army here. You need-
>slow cooker
>toaster oven
Use slow cooker to make beans, toaster oven for chicken or fish.
My go to for beans-
2-1 1/2 cups dry beans (black or pinto for calorie loading, navy beans for cutting)
4 cloves garlic
1 onion, quartered
slight amount of salt
cumin, cayenne, chili powder to taste
cover with water, slow cook
fairly protein dense side
Also, if you're looking for protein dense and don't mind some fat, go with french cooking, primarily roasts.
Also
>pinhead oats or steel cut oats are amazing
>mix with plain yogurt + protein shake for breakfast
What's the worst experience you've ever had in a restaraunt, /ck/?
As a server, a cook, or a patron.
after night shift i went to a cheap breakfast joint for the $3.99 breakfast
if you get a coffee with it it's over $5 but since i was going to go home to bed i just had water and the bill was $4.something after tax
i gave the server $20 and she gave me $15 change in bills, keeping some odd amount of change for herself- this didn't really bother me but i like to tip better than that and the service was good so i attempted to have her break one of the bills so i could give her a better tip
she fucking flew off the rails and chewed me out in front of the whole restaurant thinking i was asking for the rest of my change
it was really embarrassing, stuff like that really gets to me and i was on edge for days
>friend recommends a bar
>it's a tiny fucking hole in the wall with a quarter of the space used as a makeshift stage, mite b cool
>friend forgot his ID so I buy him a drink
>bartender sees me give it to him and calls me back
>chews me out about the legality so I have to drink it or leave without it
>drink and fuck off
>go like two doors down to a jamaican place
>friend orders 5+ alcoholic drinks
>they don't say shit
