Every cooking show shows them cooking steak and then letting it rest. It just got colder. I might pop it in the microwave and heat it up.

Anyone else have parents who emigrated to the States to escape poverty? Mine came from the USSR and within 3 years went from Europoor to middle class Americucks thanks to my mom starting a successful business. But their food habits never went away.
Mom

I was 220 pounds between the ages of 9 until I was 15. Took a long time to stop feeling guilty about not finishing what's on my plate. Thankfully I'm much fitter now, I work out, and eat healthier non-carby non-Slavic dishes. But I still sometimes overeat like crazy and drink too much at some rare occasions.
Any similar stories from y'all? Nationality/background? Food that's hard for you to eat now because your parents fed you way too much of it?

No. literally every part of the animal is processed, sold and used. They come shorn but the fleece is salted packed up and shipped overseas as an example. Even offcuts and scraps are bulk packed and sold, mostly processed into dog/cat food.
You can get good deals on meat sometimes, but its a bulk deal; massive case of lamb legs for $200 or so. Factory also does beef so they'll do huge slabs of rump or a box full of ribeye uncut. These deals only really show up around Christmas.
If you get stealing shit it's an instant dismissal.

Do you guys ever push your limits of eating? I did yesterday when I ate too much sushi and then threw up at a bar later.
I have to go out to dinner with friends at a taqueria later... I'm afraid it's gonna happen again cause I'm ordering stuff from a near by steak sandwich place and the delivery is taking forever.
pls no bully about blog posting, I want to know if you guys ever traumatize yourselves by eating? I'm legit scared now.

Your liver manufactures cholesterol from saturated fat. In the case of alcoholics it makes a lot. The combination of alcoholism and a high saturated fat diet can cause pancreatitis, which you do not want. It's painful as fuck.
Beyond that someone who just happens to have high cholesterol can lower it without medication by cutting out most sat fat from their diet.

hey everybody, I'm back from last weekend, almost ready to roast my frozen turkey. It's been thawing now since Sunday, so for a 24lb turkey that should be fine, but unfortunately my bird still seems frozen (some places seem like they have crunchy ice on them) even after the proper amount of time. Most of it seems soft though. Should I go for it now or thaw it a little more in the sink? I'd rather get it started by 1pm at the latest.

everything I've seen says my bird will be done in 5-6 hours.
So, I tried to make mungbean tofu, but when I added a curdling agent (vinegar) it thickened it instead of separating it. Now instead of having a block of tofu I have a very sour and thick soup. What did I do wrong?

Actually Gypsum (calcium sulfate) works much better for making tofu than vinegar or lemon juice. You can buy it at homebrew stores.
Having said that, to save this batch you may need to add more vinegar. What temperature was it when you added the vinegar?
