I've bought a rib eye today, and I want to prepare it later today
I've already taken it out of the fridge to get to room temperature
But my succes rate at preparing steak and steak related cuts are fluctuating to say the least
I have a 50/50 chance of successfully cooking it rare; the other 50% ends up in a charred-on-the-outside-fooking-raw-on-the-inside disaster (as in; cold as fuck, not even rare)
There appears to be a complete absence of consensus on the internet; some recommend big pans, some small, some a thick bottom, some a thin. The same for whether to use oil, butter, or both. And don't even get me started on the heat level. So let's do this: What is the proper way to cook a rib eye: final edition
For someone of your cooking skill level, I'd recommend sous vide, or a half assed version of it if necessary. Once you get the temperature right, you couldn't fuck it up if you tried. Then it's just a matter of a quick sear on the outside.
You want a large pan because a small one has the chance of just boiling a steak in its juices. You want a heavy bottomed pan for heat retention so when you slap the steak in the pan it doesn't instantly go cold. You start with a high smoke point oil so it doesn't burn when you sear it, but its perfectly good to finish the steak with butter and actually use it to baste the steak.
The heat level will vary depending on your stove, you need to know your equipment. If you have an electric stove you are going to want to start on high probably. But you really have to gauge it yourself, if it's going too fast just turn it down. Don't take any advice as a rule you can't break. Cooking steak properly is about getting to know your pan/stove/grill/oven etc.

What's the best way to cook chicken breast?
I've never cooked before and I'm scared

If you're buying boneless skinless be sure you marinate it for at least overnight, that will break it down a bit. I cut it into chunks and use it for curry. You can also pound it and stuff it with vegetables and cheese.
It's cheap so that's nice but I generally don't buy them since they're so dry. I prefer to buy tenderloins on manager's special. I'll buy all of the discounted packs and freeze them for later use. They're much better.
cook it flamin' yon on a grill

So I'm making a homemade mac and cheese for Thanksgiving and I'm starting to peruse the internet for recipes. Since I love 4chan anyway and enjoy lurking here, I thought I'd see what you guys thought.
Any favorite macaroni and cheese recipes? Favorite methods (baked/stovetop)? Do's and dont's?
Mac and cheese thread
Don'ts:
- Don't eat macaroni and cheese if you're older than 13.

Taking my gf out to dinner for our anniversary tonight and I'm just torn on what I should get as this all sounds good.
I am gonna start with the escargot (they make it in a butter sauce and top them on mushrooms).
Usually chef sends us fried zucchini on the house.
Broiled veal chop, rare $38
New York Prime Sirloin $36
Roasted Long Island Duck $27
For me it's the McChicken

Your "gf" is secretly fucking other people. Might want to get tested.
>>8290223
Well, what would you eat
How do you behave at a formal dinner? Thanksgiving is coming up and I don't want to embarrass myself in front of my gf's family.
We never really cooked at home when I was growing up, it was always takeout straight from the container in front of the TV. IDK if we even had cutlery.
>>8290067
>IDK if we even had cutlery.
How can you not remember if you had forks and knives or not?
>>8290080
I never saw any except those plastic spork things.
>>8290084
Oh. In that case, hold your fork in one hand and your knife in the other. Don't start eating until everyone is seated and they say grace. (If that's something they do) Keep a napkin in your lap. If anything is out of reach, ask someone to pass it rather than reaching over other people's plates. Don't talk with your mouth full. Don't eat too fast. If you need to get up during the meal, excuse yourself first. Don't drink more than your hosts. Keep your elbows off the table and your hands above it while eating. Most families won't expect more than basic table manners. They'll probably be expecting you to be somewhat awkward and uncomfortable, as long as you're not being completely uncouth.
I bought some ghee and msg. How fucked am i? I'm kinda scared to use them now. Every recipe prefaces how dangerous they are and to use my own judgement
Wtf
Ghee is pure saturated fat and unhealthy.
MSG is only slightly unhealthy because of the sodium.
Ghee is good for keto or paleo. Nothing wrong with msg, just don't use too much or will have the opposite effect.
>>8289737
I'd learn how to cook without them. But don't tell anyone you used then if you do
The shop was out of Tooheys extra dry so picked up some hahn super dry.
Any chance I'd enjoy it if Tooheys is my beer or did I just blow my cash of shit piss?
It looks like a case of laundry detergent instead of beer
>>8289617
It's quite watery and easy to drink, takes several to get a buzz going.
How the hell could they run out of Teddys?
super dry is better than extra dry
I have been calling for a big big mac for years. Does it actually live up to the promise though? Does it good?
In fairness the big mac does not live up to its name but are you a paid shill by any chance? This board does not get much traffic, you see. /b/ might get you more McDollars.
>>8289610
Where can you get it OP?
Sure looks tasty. Do want.
its not even that good but i eat it anyway
>>8289531
>its not even that good but i eat it anyway
That's how I feel about your mom's pussy.
>>8289531
I ONLY GO HERE WHEN THERES A SALE. 5 BUCKS FOR A FOOTLONG IS PRETTY DECENT. EVERYTHING IS SO BLAND THOUGH THAT IT ALL TASTES THE SAME.

>tfw flavored medicine ruined a flavor for you
I still can't completely disassociate the flavor of cherries from the feeling of being sick.
>Love noodles, my preferred take-out next to gyros.
>Visit Iceland
>Prices are fucking abhorrent, end up visiting a "chinese" noodle shop because desperate.
>37 euros for two fucking bowls of noodle soup, one vegetarian and one with chicken
>Both filled with fucking licorice, and when I mean filled, I mean FUCKING PACKED TO THE BRIM, no other herbs as far as I could taste
>Gf nopes the fuck out and gives up after one bite
>Painstackingly eat about half of my bowl because 37 euros ;_;
>It's been 2 months now and I can't order noodles because the nauseating taste of licorice is still burned into my mouthand nostrils
Fuck licorice and fuck Iceland. I still cannot believe that country was more expensive for me than fucking New York and Tokyo.
>>8289328
good thing it doesn't taste like actual cherries then
>>8289382
oh yeah?
The one time we don't have a fucking coffee thread and I have a coffee question.
I'm sick of Starbucks garbage and I want to try a French press or aero press or something. I've always heard using fresh roasted coffee beans is much better than just pre grounded stuff. I was thinking I'd just get a hand grinder, but where do I get the beans? I don't have any coffee shops in my vicinity. What does "freshly roasted" imply exactly? Like literally right out of the roaster? Or is the shelf life long enough that I can order them online?
>>8289265
Why don't you just fucking google it, you ape
It's fresh as in, use within a week, stored properly, and only grind right before using with a decent burr grinder.
It's sounds pretentious, but the difference is day and night.
>There are people here right now who never ate a perfect brisket
>>8289258
>eating burnt meat
disgusting
The only good bbq I've had was at friends pig roast. Most of the restaurants here are garbage if you want something other than seafood. When I see pics of bbq from other places in the country I get pretty jealous.
