do the chickpeas have to be cooked or just soaked?
>>

Chickpeas just soaked are inedible. Soaking is the prelude to cooking.
>>
I don't know, but whenever I have them from a restaurant they're good and not dry.

Is fruit juice actually as unhealthy as soda?
I've seen tons of articles on the subject and some of them claim that juice might actually be even more unhealthy than coke, simply because it doesn't contain fiber, found in whole fruit.
I really like apple juice, which I usually drink unfiltered - a carton every day on average.
Is fruit juice literally poison, or is someone spreading misinformation? I figured natural fruit sugars cannot be as bad as added white sugar. Was I wrong?

There are 16 oranges in half a litter of orange juice you are eating 16 oranges worth of calories do the math
>>
>>8323538
CALORIE WISE YES. THERES VERY LITTLE DIFFERENCE. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT THEN YOU SHOULD AVOID BOTH BEVERAGES. HOWEVER, SODA IS DEVOID OF ANY MICRO-NUTRIENTS WHILE ORANGE JUICE IS MOST CERTAINLY NOT SO IT DOES HAVE NUTRITIONAL MERIT.

Been eating healthier recently, most breakfasts look like this with a black coffee and a glass of water.

It's easy to make and I enjoy it but what are some things I can put on this that are still healthy but will spice it up and make it more flavorful? I really like spicy stuff so I've been doing chili powder the last couple days but I'm open to more ideas! (aside from the obvious hot sauce/sriracha)

Also out of curiosity what's the best way to make a runny egg? Sometimes it breaks when I flip it and I have to start over :x

Yeah but I'm trying to keep down my sugar intake. Fruit and/or cereal makes its way in 1-3 breakfasts out of the week.

It was never good. It was just less shit than it is currently. Every time I've gotten a burger from Wendy's the bag, the wrapper, and the bottom bun are always completely soaked through with grease. Shit is/was nasty.

Duck - it's like the best of both worlds when you kosher/brine it.

Otherwise, turkey if it's not cooked back to life.

Turkey, hams are always commercial made fuck ups any time someone "makes" one.

Absolute shit quality food businesses that still manage to survive somehow.

How do I cook a turkey and not fuck it up? My work gave me one and it's kinda just taking up room in my tiny freezer. I've never cooked one before.

>>
>>8325436
Just boil it for a couple of hours.
>>
>>8325436
Carve it up and cook the pieces separately. Roasting it whole makes it nearly impossible to get the whole thing cooked through without also overcooking some parts of it.
>>
>>8325436
Brine before roasting.
Don't stuff the turkey with anything more than some aromatic herbs because stuffing just adds to the cooking time of the thickest parts, meaning the thinner parts get dried out by the time the thick parts are cooked.
Brush that fucker with butter, fat, or something to help crisp up the skin and form a barrier to retain moisture.

Anybody know how to make this shit sufferable? I made a batch this morning (first time). I followed the directions on the package.

>8 cups of hot water
>6 tbs of olive oil
>splash of lecithin (I just used milk)
>1 cup of kava powder

I blended it, strained it into a jug, and let it cool in the refrigerator.

It yields approximately 4 cups.

I just drank one cup of it and I almost threw up. It's like someone got dirty dishwater from a clay-bottom river.

I realize now that I need that nylon strainer. I used a very fine metal one and removed a lot of sediment, but it's still in a sludge-like state.

Is there anything I can add to make it decent? I have water, coconut water, tonic, vodka, lemon, calamondin, honey

So far I've just added some coconut water to make it more viscous. It still tastes like shit though. I want to drink all 4 cups to see if I can feel the full effects.

IN ALL HONESTY NO. KAVA LITERALLY TASTES LIKE DIRT. I CANT IMAGINE DRINKING 8 CUPS OF THE STUFF DILUTED IN ANYTHING. UNFORTUNATELY, MIXING IT WITH ANYTHING SUGARY IS SIMPLY COUNTER-INTUITIVE. MY BEST ADVICE IS TO SKIP ALL THE OTHER NONSENSE, AND MIX IT WITH JUST ENOUGH WATER TO MAKE IT DIS-SOLVABLE IN WATER AND TAKE IT LIKE A SHOT. WITH GOOD QUALITY KAVA IT DOESNT TAKE THAT MUCH FOR YOU TO FEEL IT. THE EFFECT IS SOMETHING AKIN TO XANAX BUT NOT EXACTLY THE SAME. IT IS QUITE PLEASANT.

GOOD LUCK.
>>
>>8325172
I definitely felt my mouth numb up after the first cup. Now I'm laying in bed chillin not even shitposting or reading or anything. It's definitely nice. Damn shame it has to taste like a dog's foot. Diluting it wasn't so bad with a chaser handy. Thanks, anon.

YES IT INDEED ACTS AS A NUMBING AGENT AS WELL. I FIND IT HIGHLY RELAXING. ENJOY MY FRIEND.

Only pulled two, the rest are brining for use throughout the next couple days.

What would you recommend that doesn't involve grilling? I wanted to cook them like a steak, but I'm not sure that would come out too well.

you can cook them like a steak just don't overcook them, whatever you do
>>
>>8325017
thanks mate. I'm pretty good with never overcooking pork, I make the juiciest pork chops imo. But that's pretty easy, it's just dredge and go.

I'll give the steak method a try.
>>

PORK IS EXTREMELY UNFORGIVING TO OVERCOOKING. MUCH MORE SO THAN BEEF. PEOPLE TEND TO BE AFRAID OF PORK THAT ISNT 160 DEGREES BUT THAT'S ALSO A FALLACY. COOK IT TO 160 IF YOU WANT DRY AND TASTELESS PORK. I LIKE TO SHOOT FOR AN INTERNAL TEMP OF 145. SALT AND PEPPER BOTH SIDES AND COOK IN A HOT OILED PAN JUST LIKE A STEAK. MAKE SURE NOT TO FLIP TOO OFTEN TO GET A NICE CRUST. THE CRUST ON A PORK CHOP DEVELOPS CHICHARRON (MEXICAN CRISPY PORK SKIN SNACK) QUALITIES AND IT IS INCREDIBLE.

GOOD LUCK.

Is there some kind ot trick to get a good brown sear on a steak like this? I've never been able to manage it now matter how I try to replicate shit I read online. Even tried preheating the pan in the oven to 500 degrees before I started one time and it still didn't turn out like this, always comes out more grey with patches of brown.

Granted I'm not doing it on a grill so that could be part of it, but there's got to be a way to accomplish this on a stove, isn't there?

Hot pan with oil, turn the pan down and then put butter in.
>>
>>8324901

Well, you won't get lines on your steak without a grill or grill pan.

But a good sear is easy as fuck. Get the pan smoking hot, put the steak in it. That's it. I can't imagine how you could possibly mess that up.

Are you possibly trying to sear a steak that's dripping wet with marinade or something? Are you trying to sear it on "low" heat?

Hot pan + dry steak gives a sear every time.
>>
Make sure the outside is very dry.
You could also give the outside a light dusting of baking soda.

/ck/, do any of you have elderly relatives with mental issues who struggle to make you food but keep trying anyway?

I live with my grandmother who is developing serious memory issues (probably the start of dementia).

Every day she insists on making me lunch for work. She doesn't have much hand control and can't really make anything so she just throws a bunch of shit into a tub and hops I eat it.

Its disgusting and I feel bad because I often have to throw it away. I don't want to insult her. Do you have any experience helping elderly, weak people learn to cook? I would teach her to make couscous with a kettle but she might burn herself.

Pic is tomorrows lunch

Half a pork pie cut in half and covered in hot sauce, a scotch egg, a sausage roll, several pieces of red onion (chopped with a butter knife because she doesn't use anything else), a frozen raw pollock fillet on a bed of cheese.

What recipes can I teach her?

If it's almost always too much then you should use less.
