Every time I cook rice, it turns out mushy.
The 2:1 water-to-rice ratio isn't working for me.
What is the best way to ensure that the rice I cook is fluffy?
>>8419566
I use a 3:2 water to rice ratio and my rice turns out perfect every time.
>>8419570
Can you walk me through your method?
Lightly saute the raw grains with a little oil on the same pot before pouring the water
Thoughts on Instant Coffee?
Do you drink it? How does it compare to "real" coffee?
For all the coffee brew accoutrements I currently own, I still keep buying instant, just can't be bothered brewing, I drink LaVassa instant which contains ground bits, does the job.
I mostly drink instant. There are some brands that actually taste completely fine
It's alright. It doesn't move my bowels like fresh beans do though.
Hey al/ck/s. I have three questions for you guys due to some recent reading on caloric absorption:
>What is your drink of choice?
>Do you smoke cigarettes?
>Are you overweight?
Water

Beer/wine sometimes vodka or whiskey.
Yes camel lights
Not by a long shot

More information needed.

Thoughts on cauliflower rice?
>>8418008
it's breddy gud, i like to make a good chicken curry and put it over it. fry it in sesame oil with golden raisins and garlic and ginger first
>>8418008
I have it once or twice a week.I think calling it rice is a bit misleading but i still like it.
Tastes awesome and great for low-carb diets. Cooks faster than rice too. Tried it in tacos and for indian food.
this is my donut friend

Entenmann's chocolate covered donuts are soooo fking good........
Is there a better oil to use for cooking than grapeseed? I ran out yesterday and would like to pick something up today.
>>8417517
Sure, but for cooking what? General purpose or do you have a specific dish in mind? I try and keep a variety of fats on hand and use the one that best matches the dish.
Grapeseed is also expensive as fuck, at least in my area.
>>8417517
grapeseed is horrible to cook with. Use coconut oil.
>>8417524
General, but mostly pan-frying omelettes, I suppose. I already have coconut and olive oils onhand.
>William Salice, creator of Kinder Surprise, dies at 83
https://archive.is/QGJtA
Mr William Salice, who helped create the hugely popular Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs for children, died in Italy on Thursday (Dec 29) aged 83, his foundation said.
In the 1970s, the chocolate baron was seeking a means to get around the seasonal nature of Easter eggs and find a use for the manufacturing moulds that served no purpose for much of the year.
The outcome was the Kinder Surprise, a chocolate egg containing little plastic parts of toys to be assembled by children. The contents of the capsules inside the eggs varied widely and the success of the product was swift and lasting.
The eggs are banned in the United States under a 1938 law prohibiting the insertion of any objects into food products, while in Chile they were banned last summer under new legislation to combat obesity.

I'm going to be visiting atlanta georgia in a week or so. never been to america before. any recommended fast food places? I also want to try to get kbbq once so if you can reccomend a place for that that'd be great too.
my current list of things I wanna try is
>taco bell
>popeyes
>chick fill a
>five guys
I'm mainly going to be staying around the cobb performance arts center, so it'd be nice if it's nearby, but it's not a requirement
>>8414616
Might as well visit the World of Coca-Cola while you're there. Nothing extravagant, but cool nonetheless and something to do.
>>8414677
Just remembered, I went to The Varsity for chili dogs while I was in ATL. Pretty good, a bit of a wait att though.
Post pictures of your refrigerators, we just got a new one at home.
>>8414318
Talk about fucking upgrade.
>>8414349
the before one still kind of works but parents, especially my mom really wanted a new one, and since I am a /g/entooman they expect me to fix the other one to put it in the basement

This stuff is honestly terrible. There is no excuse for eating it. I've only tasted the beef ones during my childhood so I can't comment on the others but the beef is shit probably not even 100% beef.
why do all poor people own one of these?
Not only do they own one, but they insist their shitty cast iron skillet is the best thing ever.
Everything sticks, food tastes like shit, you can't even clean it without the owner flipping out about ruining their "seasoning".
>>8419513
>Everything sticks
no
>food tastes like shit
no, that's your cooking not the pan.
>clean it without owner flipping out
I wash mine with soap and water. Regular dishwashing soap does not remove seasoning.
Because they don't. You're thinking of college kids who autistically researched cast iron seasoning on the internet and never really cooked.
Actual poor people own these, and a pressure cooker. Because they are not poor by choice, and they actually need to cook to live instead of when they feel antsy and don't want to have Subway again.
>>8419533
yes, it's the pan. Everything tastes fine out of regular pans. Cast iron causes food to stick and poorfags like you go into full autistic meltdown when you mention how maybe making a grilled cheese with last weeks egg bits still stuck in it is a bad idea.
kys with the pan plz
Best ways to flavour/spice/cook/sauce rice?
Basically poor this year and will be eating mainly vegan fried rice as a meal most days during the following year.
I want to learn more about spices and sauce so I can get a feel for it myself, but I don't know enough and basically have to just copy recipes outright.
Any tips or ideas?
Also, how do you guys have your fried rice?
PS: Steamed hams
rice just absorbs all flavors you put into,
basically chicken stock can falvor it well
I like to add bay leaf and indian spices..
In my opinion best rice is indian spices in a rice cooker with chicken stock
gives it a nice flavor
>>8419297
This
I tried beef stock once, wasn't a huge fan
Rice with cilantro and lime juice is good although I would add those after the rice is cooked since cilantro loses its color after being cooked with the rice.
Jambalaya is an interesting take on rice if you like tomato sauce with it. Conversely jollof rice is an African rice that has a similar idea and is pretty popular.
I've never made risotto but it's practically a staple in Italian cooking.
Also rice porridge (congee) is light and great for when you're sick and want something light. I know it looks and sounds kind of gross but it's decent with a small amount of seasoning.

Make a peanut sauce with peanut butter, soya sauce, lime juice, honey and an hot sauce or hot pepper.
Does blending fruit and vegetables and turning them into smoothies/hot soups cause them to lose some of their nutrients?
Cold smoothies: no
Hot soups: yes
Cooking fruit/vegetables causes them to lose nutrients, blending doesn't. So this guy is right: >>8419286
Having a little midnight snack. I call this my pineapple tropical surprise pizza.
Why do people make stupid food they don't actually like just to shitpost and then probably throw it away
>>8418934
Nice assumptions. I enjoy this meal.
I'd eat it. Cheers.
Did you finish your Christmas peanuts yet?
>>8418766
I buy beer nuts because I like the skins and so does my sister. No one else really eats them. I finished off the pack yesterday.
>>8418766
i finished my christmas slim jims and cola gummi bears the same day.
currently working on my elk sausage.
Dude, I'm trying to finish so much fucking food before the end of New Year's Day, I can't handle it. Candy, cookies, nuts, cheese, breads, fuck, there's still a big ass piece of Champagne Cake in the fridge from Christmas. The food is going to kill me........I'm not going into January still eating like a pig, my body can't take it.
