I'm looking to be frugal this year on eating expenses so I can finally pay off my truck and get myself an apartment. To do this I'm cutting back on expensive proteins and going with pork and fish to satisfy my diet. Going over the selection at the market the other day, I saw that rockfish is a fairly inexpensive fish, but I've never worked with it before.

Anyone familiar with the best way to cook rockfish?

I dunno man 2013 was only 3 years ago technically. Maybe it's still good.

>Anyone familiar with the best way to cook rockfish?

What form do you have? Fillets? Skin on/off? the whole fish?

Easy recipes to start learning how to cook? I'm a Brazilian university student. I wanna be a reliable cook whenever I marry, and having something decent to eat every now and then would be nice too since my university's food gets old after a while (but I can't complain since many people don't even have anything to eat, and I know that if I skip a meal it's because I chose to)

For the record I have access to a microwave, an oven and an air fryer and I might be able to buy more equipment if needed but I'd rather not. Also I really don't know how to cook. All I know is rice, potato lasagna (might sound fancy but it's just cut potatoes in slices, arrange them on a plate along with some cheese, put another layer of potato slices over it and put it in the oven, pretty braindead) and boiled eggs

Thanks beforehand

>I wanna be a reliable cook whenever I marry,

Are you a female? If so, knowing how to cook for your husband would be nice, but it would be better if you knew how to give a good blowjob, and gave them frequently, and on demand.

Looks great, I'll try immediately. Going to buy the ingredients. Thanks!

Have you ever, out of curiosity, tried the pizza at a Chinese buffet?

I mean, it's there.

It's probably just regular cheap ass frozen pizza. It's not like a chinaman cooked it with chinese ingredients and shit
>>
>one piece of pepperoni per slice

Even for frozen pizza, that's laughable
>>
>>8419519
>tried the pizza at a Chinese buffet?

Nope. That's the sign of a shitty buffet. I prefer to stick with those that don't waste effort on non-chinese foods.

If they have sushi, fried chicken, pizza, hamburgers, etc, then I'm not coming back.

Got pretty sick from some Indian restaurant I went to when I was about 10. Also when I go to Japanese restaurants I usually get diarrhea immediately afterward, I think because of the miso soup. But I still do it.

Two weeks ago I threw my hat into the lact hot sauce fermentation ring. I made up four jars--three hot sauces, and one of simple vegetables--and finalized the process today.

The results were mixed.

Jar 1, jalapeno and garlic, turned out the best (pic related). It smelled very savory and tasted decently. I was least worried about this based entirely on the smell and knew it would come out okay.

Jar 2, habanero and garlic, went rancid. Through the fermenting process I could tell it was turning even though there was no visible mold. It cultured just fine as there was yeast forming on the bottom, but the smell was entirely off putting. When I opened the jar much gagging ensued and I ended up tossing the batch. The peppers were firm and look okay, but the smell was simply too bad for consumption.

Jar 3, jalapeno serano habanero, smelled decent. It smelled like a lesser form of the straight jalapeno. I was cautious since there was habanero in here. I pulled out one of the habaneros to smell / taste test it, and it smelled like jar 2. I'm wondering if this is just how habaneros are when they're fermented... still didn't want to risk it and tossed the batch.

Jar 4, assorted vegetables, came out good. Carrots nice and firm. Cucumbers crisp. Radishes crunchy. Was very pleased in relation to jars 2 and 3.

So it turned out 50/50 for a first attempt. Don't think I'm going to use habanero in my second batch next weekend. Will probably go to some mexican shop and get an assortment of random peppers and just make a medley of them.

Can anyone attest to if my habaneros went bad, or if they just smell fucking awful?

I've had nothing but awful experiences with habaneros. They always go bad on me...I've had no trouble with Jalapenos and Serranos....but habaneros ALWAYS fuck up
>>
>>8422265

Glad to hear it's not just me. I was thinking maybe my brine wasn't high enough. I had it at around 5%, maybe habanero need a 10%?

I went to wal-mart and target today and couldn't find one. I don't want to order online because I don't trust that it won't break during shipping.

I love making trifles for parties, they're simple and fun to make, and everyone loves you for it.

Also Trifle thread! Post awesome trifles that you've made or would like to make!

holy fuck that's cheap as hell. It's worth risking a few bucks over. Thanks anon! I'm gonna bookmark this. Out of all the triffle bowls ive seen online this seems to be the cheapest.

Have you ordered there before?

Anyone else like chocolate mousse? I really want to make this for my next trifle.

Last trifle I made had nilla wafers, vanilla pudding, cool whip, graham cracker crumbs, and crushed up brownie brittle. It was a total hit at the festivus party I went too.

Man it feels so good when people like the stuff you make, even if it's super easy to make!

Beefeater plays nice with pretty much everything, any recipe that calls for london dry gin should work great. Even a martini.
>>
>>8420570
Not looking to make an actual drink, was thinking of just grabbing a bottle of sprite on the way out to a party and mixing it with gin. Very basic but I assume it shouldn't be too bad
>>
>>8420577
Get ginger ale then. Gin and ginger is a pretty classic mix.

It was more likely something like a plumbing or power problem, otherwise they'd still be open, no corporate store totally closes for the day because of employee call offs

You didn't use enough cheese, or you didn't distribute the cheese onto the bread properly. Enjoy that hard cheeseless crust, ya hooligan.

As I've grown older I've experimented with a lot of other ingredients and I have to say I love making grilled cheese with Gruyere and sometimes I add a bit of sauteed mushrooms and bacon. I feel like grilled cheese sandwiches have got a reputation of being eaten by manchildren but they are better in my opinion when you use more "adult" ingredients.

Got this cast iron for Christmas and after a lot of research, I found that it needed to be sanded down and reseasoned.

So I borrowed my dads angle grinder and smoothed it down. It wasn't that hard and actually shined up really nice and smooth.

I didn't want to spend $15 for a bottle of flaxseed oil at the GNC, luckily I found out that Flaxseed oil and Linseed oil are the same thing. It's even used in oil paints! After a few coats of oil and several trips through the oven it's looking OK, but not great. It still stays "tacky" even after baking off the oil.

Did I do something wrong? Why won't my seasoning cure?
