Does anyone have any /ck/ related new year resolutions? I'm cutting down on my consumption of fast food/take out. I spend far too much money on it.
I'm going vegetarian
I'm also volunteering at my local Food not Bombs once a week, we do vegan meals for the homeless

>we do vegan meals for the homeless
Why don't you just spit in their face you fucking monster?
>>8423399
I'm becoming vegan, gluten free and fair-trade only.
I already feel much better for it and the weight is melting away.
Hey /ck/
I got one of these bastards for Christmas. Really nice looking pan, heavy as well. Never had a cast iron before.
What should I cook in it?
How should I treat it?
Is there anything specifically I could do with cast iron that I couldn't do with a regular non-stick?
If your pan is OP pic, that's enameled cast iron. You don't have to season it. But you'll need to use a lot of oil when cooking in it. It's still a great pan.
>>8423109
i'm not sure if it's the exact one, but I was actually just talking with my mom about how it doesn't feel like "pure" cast iron, so it's probably enameled like you said
>>8423167
>it doesnt feel like "pure" cast iron
Like pearls before a swine...
I'm making chicken adobo in a crock pot, everybody keeps asking for crock pot ideas. I put in chicken, soy sauce, vinegar, pepper corns, and bay leaves. In 6 hours I will be eating an international cuisine that will taste somewhat marginal.
>>8422874
I forgot I also put garlic in it.
Ok
Don't you need a little water or chicken stock?
Perfect pasta yes? Better than ramen yes?
>>8422708
I always keep some in my shirt pocket for a quick snack.
gross
>>8422708
Ehh, if we're going for the best Chef Boyardee, it's a tie between the "lasagna" and the beefaroni. Both have better sauce than the ravioli (yes, there are differences)
Upvote Summer Sausage if you didn't get kissed for new years
Got this for christmas. Am I going to be fuckin' stoked on this sausage?
What the fuck does Summer sausage even mean ? What the fuck makes it 'Summer' ?
>>8422623
It's the kind your mom takes every summer.
I'm thinking of a new concept for a fried chicken restaurant.
>fast casual format
>country atmosphere to keep the whites in/jigs out but nonetheless hip and modern
>$10+ average cost of meal
>very simple menu consisting of only fried chicken as entrees and a few select sides (mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw)
>focus on quality and simplicity of ingredients
>location: urban TN
Here is the differentiator: GIANT, delicious, biscuit with every meal. Like 4x the size of KFC biscuits.
Please r8 business viability.
>>8422195
Sounds oddly familiar.
>>8422200
There is a huge void in the market for upscale fried chicken.
Been cooking rice about everyday now. Its become my primary source of carbs.
My current rice cooker is looking a little shabby and I'm about to retire it.
Which fancy rice cooker should I upgrade to?
Get a pot and Cook it yourself.

Why bother when a rice cooker does a better job, uses less energy, and frees up valuable space on the range?
Any chefs on here that work with Saffron?
Im just curious to see how much you guys pay to get it. My family owns a Saffron farm which produces the worlds best saffron but only sells domestically in Iran.
I would like to bring it over here and supply stores all over. But would like to see if its worthwhile.
Oh and on average how much would a restaurant want/use?
>>8421597
Saffron isn't the most sought after product and its use is not very widespread
Ive seen saffron use in sugars, tea, and rice
Not a chef, but in a grocery store in Finland it's 3 euros for 0.5 grams (after tax etc.)
>>8421604
Yeah Im trying to work out who uses them.
Other than middle east and indian dishes
>low carb or no carb
>low salt or no salt
>low sugar or no sugar (unsweetened)
>low fat or no fat
Why are things like these becoming more popular than ever? I see versions of products like these all the time, more so than I did in previous years.
Is our health getting that bad, or are companies just scamming us? It would make sense from a profit perspective to create these new product lines to make more money.
doctors tell people to consume less of those things so people do it but in the laziest way possible
>>8421529
What they actually mean is don't use 4 oz of ketchup everyone you eat fries.
But fatties think it means use 4 oz of low sodium ketchup because it's healthy.

Paleo/Keto has been proved as the most effective weight loss regime in numerous studies. It's the recommended method advised y the NHS in the Uk and across most of the European Healthcare system, so it's unsurprising that manufacturers are responding to the demand.
When doomsday come (and it will come).
Are you a scavenger, eat stuff from tins?
Or already turned into super mutants faggot?
>>8421407
imho would feed to dog
Part of me hopes I die in the event of your typical nuclear doomsday, just because everything will be shit and a rather quick death seems preferable to a slow death from radiation poisoning. The other part of me wants to live and be able to roam, rape, and read until my death at 37 from a bandit killing me and stealing my gear. If it's the latter I'm going to use my /out/ knowledge and hope it's still applicable in a post nuclear environment.

That is old school autism survival. Now they walk around with kevlar helmets, armored vests and camo with some crappy brand of desert boots and an AR style rifle because the ammo will be plentiful from all the US military they kill.
Why don't people invent new foods anymore?
>>8421384
Because you'd literally have to invent a new animal or vegetable in order to create something completely new.
>>8421384
>>8421392
What's the most recently invented popular mixed drink?
>>8421392
Nah I don't buy that. People just have to be more creative. The ingredients for Pizza were around forever and it was only invented because some Queen wanted a dish with no meat because she was a vegetarian.
Is it worth the hour and a half of stirring to do it the old fashioned way?
Just ate some halva 2 weeks ago
>>8421317
Is it worth reposting threads to force a meme?
>>8421317
Is it worth the 30 seconds responding to a dumb pasta?
I put lots of salt on my rice.
Like, A LOT.
Is there a specific word for this, I surely can't be the only one that covers white rice with salt...
use soy sauce you utter muppet
The other cultures do this too, with soy sauce
Soy sauce just has that 'savory' flavor in there because poor ass countries can't raise cattle
>>8420837
>Is there a specific word for this.
Yes, autism is the word you're looking for.
>just a little bit of olive oil
>>8420688
It's like a minestrone!
That shit gonna catch on fire
>>8420705
>there are people who unironically pronounce minestrone as "myn/mine strohn"
What's the best burger at Mcdonalds?
the one you don't order
>>8420356
For me...
