Hey /ck/
My roommate swears up and down that this bread is the absolute best for Italian sandwiches, but I can taste zero difference between it and average dirt-cheap wonderbread shit. I'm fine enough eating my sandwiches on it, but his hype seems pretty misplaced.
Am I just unable to taste some nuance of flavor that other people get, or is he having a placebo effect over it saying "Italian" on it.

Its probably just wonderbread with a tiny spritz of EVOO on each slice, that tends to be aroma that makes people say "hey thats italian bread!"

Whole foods has excellent italian bread boules, but they can do nothing you cant do yourself with some practice.

if it says italian on the packaging then it means it italian anon

What is /ck/'s favorite frosting? Any good recipes/combinations? Best store bought frosting?
My family's recipe uses shortening/butter and egg whites, I don't know it but this looks pretty close:

I like to mix coconut cream or peanut butter with chocolate and powdered sugar melted together, and 1-2 tsp of vanilla extract and call it a day. I don't keep an exact recipe as I'm always adjusting the consistency for spread-ability and kitchen humidity.

According to SE, you should be buying organic powdered sugar for non-cooked frostings because the cornstarch used as an anti-caking agent in conventional powdered sugar doesn't truly dissolve into the suspension of fats and flavorings at room temperature where the tapioca powder in organic varieties which results in a smoother textured icing:

Hey /ck/, where can I go to teach myself the basic concepts and techniques of cooking. The stuff that applies for literally anything you might end up making, not just one specific recipe/culture. I wanna get to a point where I can just improvise without a recipe, but I'll need a strong foundation in the basics for that. Any books or videos you'd recommend?

Meat looks ok and comfy.

Why add vegetables if they're just going to lay awkwardly on the grill like that instead of absorbing the gravy? I bet they're dry too.

>Has anyone ever cooked spaghetti put sauce on it, then cooked it in a pan?
Sure. That's how you are supposed to do it. You boil the pasta until it is not quite done, then you finish cooking it in the sauce.

Pasta in a sandwich is certainly a thing. My elementary school cafeteria served that shit back in the 80's. It's also a thing in Japan.
>>
>>9369037
Yes to both. Google "spaghetti sandwich" there are tons of examples and most look really good.

These are good too. But they don't have the same heat and bite. Like OP I succumb to this golly every other month or so. Every time I cannot prevent myself from eating at least 1/3rd of the bag and it always has the same fiery repercussions. And I always say never again.
