I normally buy pork chops, but this time pork loin was on sale so I got a 5lb loin, chopped it up and grilled it last night. Getting ready to heat up some leftovers and noticed pic-related. The loin itself was part red part pink, and I guess the pink part cooked to white and the other part is still really pink. Is that normal? Is it safe or is the pink part undercooked?
Pork is fucking gross. Most cuts will be full of multiple muscles and the transition zone is full of fat and gristle. You have to like the animalistic value of tearing apart flesh and its anatomy to enjoy pork. Only the prime or highly processed cuts lack the veins of shit through them. Any big section of pork is going to be full of gross shit you chew on for a while before getting disgusted and spit it out.

Unless you live in a third world shit hole, even raw pork wont make you sick.
Is there a downside to pre-shredding your carrots or even buying shredded carrots?
>>8568920
>Is there a downside to pre-shredding your carrots
not that i can think of
>buying shredded carrots?
okay now that's a waste of money because you can just shred the carrots yourself
you'd end up paying a lot more
>>8568959
>waste of money
100% contextual
>>8569548
is it really that hard to just preshred the carrots yourself
like compare grated cheese to nongrated cheese, it's much more expensive
I bought a loaf of bread from a local bakery yesterday. When I sliced it open and smelled it, I was immediately transported back to grade school, where we once baked bread in class.
What was it that I was smelling? Yeast?
Probably
Holy shit that is some yeasty bread
Most likely it's the yeast. Typically when people make bread at home or at school they use a huge amount of yeast because they don't want to wait for much more than one or two hours for the bread to rise. This produces an inferior flavor compared to bread fermented slowly and has a noticeable "yeasty" aroma.
Name a better flavor.
>you can't
love sea salt and vinegar, but...
I'd rather eat a bag of wild arugula (that's the colloquial name for a specific species, not just marketing) :D

>mouth rape: the chips
Literally anything else would be a better flavor.
So, have you ever made anything with peels?
I'm considering using some potatoes peels next time I cook them
Let's discuss about peels in general
Not worth the effort of washing them, honestly. I'm sure you could do something creative with some kind of parmesan cheese or powdered flavor, but these things are qualified as 'food waste' for a reason, usually. Even 'potato skins' have a large amount of the tuber actually in the skin when they're served.
The skins are gritty as hell, even when cleaned and fried. I can't really see how you can redeem these terrible things as food beyond a garnish.

People actually peel potatoes? I thought that was just something they did on TV in the movies. Like L shaped blankets and not rinsing after brushing.
Ever have a pinwheel?
These are prosciutto and mozzarella, fresh from a local deli.
Why would I ever make something like that for myself? Wouldn't this be more appropriate at a social event?

Ahhhhhh yes. Prot-chewt-uh and moots-uh-rayl-ahhh are my favorites.
Does anyone on /ck/ cook with exotic meats?
I've been considering branching out and trying shit other than chicken and beef.
Kinda want to try Guinea pig or Peacock.

A few I have had sucess with
Ostrich is lean as fuck, tasty sous vide then finished in pan, or curried
Goat is fairly common in Jamaica and parts of Italy, where they make curried goat, and grilled goat chops, respectively. Possibly my favourite red meat.
Monkey was pretty disgusting, any interesting flavour was destroyed by the awful stringy texture and almost sour taste. Tried everything from deep fry to sous vide to stew, all vile.
Crocodile is meh, apart from the jerky which is godly
Again quite common, but pheasant is delicious, cheap, and ought to be used more often. Good terayaki or in curry.
If seafood is included, smoked eel is one of the tastiest morsels god hath granted us. Serve with horseradish and zubrowka.
I've had lamb, cornish game hen, turkey, rabbit, and even duck once. Pretty underwhelming .t-b,h
They are overrated meme foods, the only people who pretend to like them are feminists who blow a ton of money on them in order to receive praise on instagram.
>>8568223
Depends how exotic. My grandfather is a hunter so I eat sometimes goat, boar, deer, pheasant etc. Delicious.
So, I've never had this, is it truly great or is it a meme for real?
I had one while I was on vacation in San Francisco. I didn't really know how to eat it, so I don't think I got as much meat out of it as I probably should have, but it tasted similar to crab except not as sweet and a bit tougher. I wouldn't get it again if crab is on the menu. The clam chowder was good though!
pretty good. i like the steak and lobster meme though, lobster by itself just isnt as good as with a nice steak.
I sneaked one into the Cinéma on Friday night for a change, I have to admit I felt superior to the plebeians there with their crab legs.
I've made leek and potato soup every Sunday for the last month.
Thinking maybe broccoli soup today? Give me some ideas

Is it because as an adult you have a job and thus can't put in the effort into cooking and just Knorr (tm) the shit out of everything you do?
Can someone explain exactly HOW sugar is bad for you? As long as you don't eat over your daily calorie req, how does sugar make you fat?
Are you in second grade or something? use google nigger
>>8567731
>As long as you don't eat over your daily calorie req, how does sugar make you fat?
That's the thing there, buddy.
Over-eating (your daily calorie req) makes you fat.
Doesn't matter if it's carrots, crayons, or cake.
>>8567731
Its the other way around... If you don't eat processed junk, it doesn't matter the amount of calories you eat. Just avoid sugar and trans fats.
In other words, ditch the candy and eat your veggies...
has anyone cut out all sugar from their diet?
I started at the beginning of the year, am down to about 4g of sugar a day (from yogurt and-or bread).
so far, the effects have been moderate. I feel healthier but I have no criteria to support that feeling (more) objectively.

Kill yourself iCuck weebshit
>>8567638
who touched you anon?
You need sugar to live, I doubt you do anything that requires any thought because the brain is the biggest consumer of sugar in the body.

Going here tomorrow, I usually go to one of the better pizza places/cheesecake factory when I visit. I'd like to potentially stray away from the usual, but there's so many good options and I like playing it safe. Any suggestions /ck/?

Revival Market for breakfast.
Onion Creek for lunch.
Liberty Kitchen for dinner.
They're all super close to each other too.
If you're going on Sunday go to Perry's Steakhouse. Order the pork chop special. You get a salad, a big-ass pork chop, and a dessert trio, all for 30 bucks.
Is drinking before work a sure way to tell ur an alcoholic?
>>8567297
Drinking in order to be able to function is a sure sign of being an alcoholic. Drinking before work could just mean you're a drunk or an idiot.
>>8567299
so im just a drunk?
>>8567306
Do you want to drink because you feel you can't get through the day without it? Or do you just like being drunk more than being sober? Drunks feel a strong desire to drink. Alcoholics feel a need to drink, and a lot of them don't even need to get drunk.
