Can any indyfags recommend some good Japanese restaurants in town?
I'm looking to visit family there for my birthday.
I've heard good things about Sakura, have any of you been there?

Ocean World.
>>8677244
Note that's specifically for Sushi, not Japanese food in general. I don't know much about other places, I haven't been to Sakura in like a decade.
>>8677256
I mostly just want to try sushi, I'll check them out.
Thank you!
What will you order

Is it safe to eat live yeast? Shouldn't the stomach acid kill them?
>>8676437
i dont think they can grow inside the stomach, since they need some sugar or carbs for that
>>8676437
it is safe, but they don't taste very good.
>>8676437
What's the difference between this and nutritional yeast?
I just got a job at a fine dining restaurant and I have very spotty knowledge of wine. Any wine ProTips you guys have would be greatly appreciated.
ALSO: what is the difference between a sweet white and a rich white??? I thought those words were synonymous
>>8676370
If you're working at a fine dining place there is either a full time somm or a wine program in place. You don't have to learn about wine in general, just get familiar with your program and the suggested pairings for each dish. When a table wants to split a bottle and the dishes everyone orders seem incompatible suggest a pinot noir.
>>8676370
those wine folly images are the worst
terms like smooth, rich, or dry are useful within limits but they are highly subjective because your perception of flavors is influenced by counterbalancing elements like alcohol level and acidity
if you want to really sound informed you have to read up on the chemistry of wine and how vinification methods contribute to the final result
the trouble with trying to use an infographic for something like pairing is that it can only be accurate at an extremely broad level or an impossibility granular level
wine folly fails by picking a level of specificity where everything seems wrong because of the taxonomic inconsistency that arises as a necessary concession to jamming the desired quantity of text into the image. literally the texbook example of design over functionality

Rad as hell. That gives a lot of peace of mind actually. Thanks based anon
Should I buy an immersion blender? Does anyone here own this? What do you use it for/how often?
>>8676345
I bought one of these in 2007 or so. I used it only 1 time. one.
>>8676345
I use it to pound my own ass.
>>8676345
Depends OP - do you often cook things that need to be blended?
Then go for it, they are not that expensive and work well.

Has this always been like this?
anyone here a regular at certain restaurants? how has that changed your dining experience, any stories?
When I was in high school the sushi place I went to regularly gave me a free meal when I only had enough money for rice, i now have a reserved seat at the bar
>>8674841
There's a Vietnamese place by my old Highschool that I've been going to for years, it's pretty nice, I can just walk in and take a table and they already know my order. I also go to a Sushi place and the lady will always give me an extra piece of sashimi with my order.
there's a Mexican restaurant that i go to a lot, and the hostess there is basically another mom to me. if i go in and don't order anything, she knows I'm broke, and she covers me whenever I need it. but i tip her over 50%, sometimes over 100% if i can afford it. Comfy as fuck, man.
>>8675438
so you give her a 100% for her to pay for your meals with?
huh, lucky woman
Just went to Del Taco for the first time. Ordered 4 crunchy tacos thinking they would be the same as Taco Bell's. Opened one up, and it was topped with a fuck ton of cheese and tomato. Took a bite, and they were absolutely loaded with meat. I check nutrition info, and they were 310 calories with 17 grams of protein. Taco Bell's taco are 170 calories with 8 grams of protein. Both Taco Bell's and Dell Taco's cost like $1.50 per taco. Jesus Christ. Taco Bell has been selling me lies, and I fell for it. Also, their hottest sauce wasn't the weaksauce bullshit that Taco Bell offers. It was genuinely burning hot and delicious.
Why in the world would anyone choose Taco Bell over Del Taco? I feel like I've been cheated all these years going to Taco Bell.
Del Taco also has pretty decent fish and shrimp options
The last time I had Del Taco, their regular crunchy tacos were like two for a dollar, the shells were stale and they had even less meat than a Taco Bell taco, and I'm not sure it even had lettuce
What do you put on your oysters, /ck/?
I alternate between nothing, tabasco, lemon, and horseradish

Why are there so many options for spaghetti at supermarkets when they all use the same ingredients? What brand do you buy?
>>8674089
Alfetra for the most part if I'm getting dry
>>8674089
I tried some storebrand walmart pasta before and it really is lower quality despite what people may claim. It like wouldn't get soft despite cooking it several minutes longer than what the directions state.
SInce then, I've stuck with Barilla.
Whatever I have a coupon for.
