I take back every bad thing I said about the Moonlight Masquerade ball in the last thread.

Yeah, you had a lot of people who just threw a wig over their prom dress, but it's pretty clear the event organizers spent a lot of time and effort in trying to make sure the event and venue were as nice as they could be and that their paying guests got something in return for the ticket price.

The LA thing... I just don't know where to even start.

Everyone just looks so sweaty and cramped and... uncomfortable.

The thing about LA one from what I've heard, they're aiming for the most exposure rather than spirit of sailor moon. Hell, they don't even watch Sailor Moon. One of my friend who was there overheard the main coordinator say 'fuck sailor moon', so that just goes to show you the mentality of these LA cosplay scene people

That both makes sense and is utterly baffling.

I'm an east coast cosplayer originally and holy hell are the resources for a great Sailor Moon cosplay event in SoCal unmatched.

Beautiful venues? Everywhere. Kickass cosplayers? Everywhere. Professional level photographers willing to participate in cosplay events? All the time. Cosplay studios with themed sets? Motherfucker we got *two.*

The chick who ran the LA event even got *professional sponsors to pay for her Sailor Moon event.*

How in the name of god did this chick fuck up so bad when the event was basically handed to her on a silver platter?

What kills me is I would much rather someone like the chick from the cosplay studio in OrangeCounty or even lilyxandra who has experience with Jareths Labyrinth run an event like this, but word is the woman who ran the LA event has been trying to monopolize the event for herself and has already sunk her seven inch long acrylic talons on next years event.

Now things are beginning to make much more sense. The 2016 event looked really fun, and I think they even rented a gorgeous antique movie theater for the release of Sailor Moon R.

Anyone have the deets and what happened? What happened to the previous organizers and how did the strip club chick come into the fray to turn a sailor moon event into Gathering of the Juggaloes West?

The issue is as you said 'monopolize'. Both current LA branch and ISMD facebook group have been playing power games back and forth to the point that it's become convoluted and not worth anyone's time to run this event.

Yep, no sane person right now wants to run proper sailor moon day event in LA because it's too crazy here.

I have absolutely no history, training, nor qualification to try and run any event and my heart goes out to the team behind the Jersey event for creating such a gorgeous event, but damn, what a waste.

Between San Diego, Orange, and LA, we have so many places where a full out Sailor Moon Masquerade would look so gorgeous.

Hell, if it weren't hotter than the surface of the sun during ISMD, can you imagine doing a picnic at like Huntington Gardens or Balboa Park? Get enough people that ticket prizes could cover a private event like how Huntington and Balboa do weddings and it could look so cool.

But yeah. If you're gonna do it, do it right.

I honestly think this chick just wanted a way to make people pay for her friends' strip shows.

Dunno much details myself, but there was rumor that one of the organizers (can't remember name but she was this white chick that was interviewed by LAWeekly at one of ISMD event) mismanaged the group, set up dance party that went wrong, and drove her co-organizers away after stealing money from event stash.

My guess is that from there, she brought in bunch of inexperienced people before she herself bailed out of LA event group. So yes, people saying how LA cosplay scene is full of drama? they are not wrong at all.

I was wondering why it's so difficult to find cosplay events in LA and OC. I was hoping to meet other Sailor Moon cosplayers but outside of cons its Club Cosplay and that's it.

I'd heard the LA cosplay scene had drama but I figured it had drama like every cosplay community has drama, y'know?

But I have to say I've seen some shit in the MD, PA, NY, NJ, and northern VA area, but the LA International Sailor Moon Day event takes the cake in fucked up in the 13 years I've been cosplaying. And I've seen some shit.

Seems like we'll have to just stick to cons.

Looks like it worked out well for them. They really picked a winner and their judgement seems to be A++

Also lol at the ISMD trying to micromanage Sailor Moon events around the world from Facebook. Again, Legend of the Moon seems to be illustrating how effective that is pretty well.

I'm glad you didn't get dragged into that noise. Honestly I wouldn't be okay letting any friend go in there alone, it looks like a bad con party, the kind where you have to watch your drink like a hawk.

Hope you enjoyed LA otherwise, though! Ironically enough so long as you steer clear of Hollywood it's a gorgeous town. First time I came here I only went to Hollywood and was horrified at how shady LA seemed lol.

Turns out the further you get from Hollywood the prettier it gets.
