Not to be a total bitch, but you don't really have that much to show off and what you do have isn't impressive either.

Brand is Brand, any girl that has a lot of it no matter the rarity is worth being jelly over; unless her wardrobe was full of 'WTF Burando dresses' or something.

Rather see a closet full of common/non-rare brand rather than a closet of Bodyline and Taobao shit.

I've only been into lolita for maybe half a year? So most of my stuff is pretty new. The Heavenly Cross skirt was my first purchase.

Sorry that one of the photos is low quality. Its a really nice AP floral OP in ivory, and I cant for the life of me find out what the print or collection is called (I found it on the sales rack of my local AP and forgot to ask)

Anon, I'm trying to help you find the name of the floral AP OP, but no luck so far.
Could you see if the tag has a product number in the tag? Should look like "142O7-3655" or something.
Also, when did you buy it exactly? If we know when it was on the sales rack we might be able to pin-point the year of the release.

Anon you're a blessing and a saint. The tag is 172004-030127 I bought it maybe a week ago but its been on the rack for at least a month. My best guess is it was an early 2017 release or maybe a late 2016?

Let me guess you're an enormous landwhale who has no other choice take advantage of the custom sizing Taobao offers cause you're too huge to fit even the biggest of fully shirred brand?

Well at least you're going the through the decent, honest route instead of resorting to replicas like most fatties of your size tend to do.

Nah, just cycled through like 6 pieces i didn't like and got rid of them. Considering selling holy lantern too bc it didnt have the impact i thought it would.

Taobao also ends up fitting be better 9/10 times

>inb4 landwwhale

I'm actually just really small and the Chinese small is smaller than brand sizes. I have no tiddies so my brand dresses always end up gaping really badly in the chest (which bothers me, which is why I then sell them). Ive gone through 2 AP, 2 Baby, and an IW dress so far with no luck on a good fit.
>>
>>9586183
>>9586175 here, can I ask what makes it come off as particularly newbieish? Just the typical basic bitch starter pieces I never got rid of (Those few BL skirts everyone and their dog has and the infanta piece especially), or the obnoxious love of polkadots?

>>
>>9586167
Where are the pointy lace up shoes from?
>>
>>9586205
It just seemed noobish based on the fact that its mostly skirts with not a lot of main pieces and for the few pieces there are its mostly Taobao and Bodyline rather than Brand?

That's why I figured you were a starterlita

Basically moreso the majority of it being starter pieces and lack of abundance overall

Also you've been in the fashion 4 years already and that's all you've got to show for it? Extreme poorfag I'm guessing? Lacemarket, Wunderwelt and Closet Child are your friends try searching more on there if you find you can only do Lolita on a budget, it just might surprise you!

Why have skirts become so unpopular recently? And I'm not singling you out anon, it seems like a general trend where I see fewer skirt coords as well as fewer skirts being released by brands. They're very versatile and I often prefer them for fit. There is a price difference from dresses so I guess that's why they're associated with newbies? But they are still considered a main piece as far as I know.

I've been collecting for a little under 3 years now, but I'm pretty happy with what I've managed to get together. My tastes are all over the place, though.
>>
>>9586212
Ah fair enough that's pretty reasonable, I just have a weakness for skirts honestly (and being stupidly short, short-torso'd and small, I generally only get jsks if they have corset lacing and a high enough waistline).

And yeah you hit the nail on the head, dirt poor uni student. Only have this much to show for myself since I usually sell an old piece whenever buying a new one, both for space, money and general wardrobe improvement. If you take a look though I've actually finally(!) got more various brand in there than I do Taobao/Bodyline stuff (well and then that one random axes femme + handmade floral skirt tossed in for casual wear but hey who's counting), and considering selling a couple more soon to replace with some nice brand items. Been having some pretty great luck through YJA/Mbok/Fril recently too so who knows, maybe it'll improve even quicker than I hope!
>>
>>9586228
idk, I adore skirts. I wish brands made more (and not just mini skirts--which are great but not lolita)

>skirts for n00bs
I actually feel like its the opposite where skirts are harder to coord and less versitile, so newbies avoid them.

Kinda sucks, it was babby's first dream dress, it's what drew me to the fashion, and i've been clinging to it, but ... seems like it wasn't meant to be.

I feel like my wardrobe is pretty rounded, but I need more solids. There's one or two pieces that are missing, but they're handmade and another is an old Meta piece I just purchased that is not on lolibrary. I'm trying to stay under 20 pieces until I wear the fashion more regularly.

Well, she was complaining. Her wardrobe is very mismatched, colorwise. It's small enough that it's not a huge task to start over by picking which ones she likes the best and pruning the rest.

My original goal for this year was to reach 20 main pieces before the end of 2017, but at this point I'm probably going to surpass that. It's not a whole lot compared to some wardrobes, but I'm pretty proud of myself for accumulating 16 main pieces in the span of 7-8 months.
>>
>>9586499
It's nothing special to accumulate 20 dresses in a year, it's only a matter of money. The really hard thing is to have a cohesive wardrobe and to collect the dresses/prints youz really want (instead of just the next best dress you see). Also, I think many newbie lolitas concentrate too much on main-pieces. Proper shoes, bags, blouses, headwear and jewelry take a lot more time and a good amount of many as well.

As far as your wardrobe goes, you did quite a good job. You have a nice sweet wardrobe, though I'm questioning th first dress. Thhat collab dress doesn't even look like it would fit a petti.
>>
>>9586506
Oh yeah agreed! I just find it impressive for myself, I've seen many other people accumulate main pieces far faster than I have. I've managed to collect a decent amount of shoes, bags, blouses, and accessories, though I do still feel that I'm still lacking some filler pieces so I'm trying to focus on buying more of those things to help diversify my wardrobe further.

As far as the dreamy luna OP goes it fits two small pettis well, but it's definitely better for casual wear.
>>
I definitely feel like I'm forgetting some things, but here is what I remembered/items for which I could find stock images in the correct colorway. I also didn't include blouses/cardigans/boleros, shoes, socks, headwear, or bags.

I suggest making a wishlist album and regularly updating it. Determine which pieces you want most. Stick to it, but if you don't really want a low priority dress anymore, take it out of your album and don't feel like you need to get it just because it was there before. I'm also two years in the fashion, but I'm at 14 main pieces that I really like. I'm not into more than one style, only sweet.
>>
>>9586826
It's a biased sample, larger wardrobes take more effort to make a collage of so those people are less likely to bother posting. Like another anon said, they're also likely to have posted to EGL and got comments there so there's less incentive to post for comments here.

For me personally I've enjoyed watching this thread but couldn't be bothered posting my own, especially since I have a lot of older pieces it's hard to find stock photos for. I'm not a "150-piece clusterfuck" by any means but I have over 60 main pieces.

Quite incohesive since I went to Japan recently and prioitized main pieces (and that btssb bag that i have loved for a really long time and was still in store - really bad starters choice, I know). Makes for 2 average IW coords though.

But it isn't. I've seen so many girls start out in lolita with a well-paying job/boyfriend/parents and they just buy like 4 dresses a month and suddelny have a huge wardrobe in a couple of months. But it's all so random, nothing fits, there is no theme, they don't really like their dresses and barely wear them, but still keep them just so they can say they have x number of dresses already. Nevermind fitting staple pieces, if any at all.

Is this anything to be proud of or something others should admire?

I've seen some small wardrobe around 20 dresses, but it's hard to get pieces, everything fits nicely and they have some really awesome bags or cardigans as well. I prefer that anytime of the day. These wardrobes show dedication, time and a sense of style instead of just money.

My wardrobe is wildly different from what I thought it'd be when I started.

The bottom four dresses I'm planning on selling one day when I'm less lazy, almost left them out. The floral BTSSB one is much too large on my bust, and the other three just don't fit my wardrobe at all (Meta's DDG was a back-and-forth of "This isn't my style at all" and "But what if I don't regret getting it NOW and it goes up in price?")
>>

So... in two months... they buy 8 dresses.
Did you do the math when you said this or?

>it's all so random, nothing fits, there is no theme, they don't really like their dresses and barely wear them, but still keep them just so they can say they have x number of dresses already
You're starting to sound like you're describing someone specific.

My wardrobe is pretty random but only because I buy prints and cuts I like instead of looking for a fucking theme which isn't required.... My shit matches and I like the way I look in it. I'm sure this goes for other people who have "random" wardrobes.

Even most gulls buy stuff they like instead of trying to adhere to a theme or only buying certain things. And if they do, it'll be because they like the theme or only specific cuts.

>hard to get pieces, everything fits nicely and they have some really awesome bags or cardigans as well. I prefer that anytime of the day.

>So... in two months... they buy 8 dresses.
>Did you do the math when you said this or?

For someone only two months in the fashion 8 dresses is pretty huge. Some struggle to have 8 dresses in 2 years.

>You're starting to sound like you're describing someone specific.

I have a few specific persons in mind, yes, but these were just prominent examples. They were people who would have an almost interchangable 'wardrobe' and 'sales' album.
And you already said your shit matches. That's what I'm talking about when I saw a theme. I'm not talking about a 'cat'-themed wardrobe or 'food'-themed, but just barely cohesive. The wardrobes I have in mind would have so many different dresses that don't match each other, the person would have to buy seperate shoes, blouses, socks and bows for every single dress. And most of the time they don't have anything to wear it with.
>>
>>9587237
>For someone only two months in the fashion 8 dresses is pretty huge. Some struggle to have 8 dresses in 2 years.
If you're the original anon that said it wasn't special for someone to have 20 dresses, then you just contradicted yourself.

The fact that some struggle to get 8 in a year mean 20 is a pretty big get.

Also themes and matching things aren't the same. Being cohesive doesn't necessarily designate a theme of some kind.

The dresses don't need to match each other.. the blouses, shoes, socks, head wear and accessories do.
Again, as someone with a pretty random wardrobe, my shit still matches. And yeah, that means I have to pretty much buy a full coord every time. But that's just how I like doing things.
Not only that but when I first started building my wardrobe, I would just wait to accumulate more and now even though my dresses don't fit together at all - I can interchange blouses and shoes and socks without it looking terrible because I've collected so much.

Look. I get what you're saying but I also feel like you're doing a piss poor job of explaining what you actually mean here and that you're slightly biased in what you're saying because you're definitely applying to some people you know.
>>

Skirts are hard for most ppl to wear. Their max waist is smaller than the jsk/op counterpart, and even with shirring you are better off if you aren't chubby. Flaw of shirring is that it can make your chub more prominent. The other issue is needing a real blouse that fits you. Most ppl I know where blouses that don't fit because they are hidden, but with a skirt you can't do that. Personally I would like more structured tips to pair with skirts.

thanks for the tip anon! i love both gothic and sweet equally so that's why my wardrobe is like this, but i realized too late that i should have sticked to one style and afterwards delve into the other. not sure if i'll sell anything like the other anon suggested, but i am in the hunt for pieces that i really like to add into my wardrobe. i have an album like you suggested on my phone that has all the dresses i would like, and yes, it has been updated many times, my style has changed throughout the years (i went from loving space, pastel goth-esque and halloween motifs to appreciating more elegant gothic prints, OTT pastel sweet stuff and both old school sweet and gothic).

i also really should invest in more blouses, legwear and bags

Sorry for the really low-res photo; was having trouble with collage making.

I was hesitant to post, but seeing everything laid out like this is really good for helping me decide what doesn’t really fit in and I should let go. I’m almost to the point where I’m happy with everything I have, but not everything is being used and that’s part of how I let stuff go. Any advice on wardrobe improvement is welcome. There's a couple more Taobao pieces I have that I left out, since they're not in my possession yet, or with my SS yet.

>No wonder your wardrobe posts take forever.
...have you ever been on EGL? Stock photo wardrobes aren't allowed, wardrobe post season means manually photographing everything you own and maybe just throwing in just a few stock pics for things in the mail. Some people re-use some photos from the previous year if their wardrobe hasn't changed much but most don't.

NTAYRT but I don't have a wardrobe album since there aren't stock photos of all my items. I refer back to my January wardrobe post when I need to and I have a folder on my desktop with seller pics of stuff I've bought since then. I used to use lolibrary's wardrobe feature for old burando pieces, but that's borked now.

I think my wardrobe is ok consistency wise, but I have a lot of work to do to fix it and fill in the gaps. When I see a piece that pops up I often think if it'll work with both sides of my wardrobe. Because of this, I'm looking to get more skirts to work with my boystyle jackets. Yellow dots are things I will probably put up for sale.

I do want lighter pieces though, for both lolita and boystyle. Happy to have purchased two white boz pieces.
>>
>>9587095
Apart from a few pieces on the bottom row, this all looks extremely cohesive to me! As long as you can coord them I don't see a need to abandon oddball pieces, unless there are space issues. Make a list of what accessory/basic pieces are missing if you have to.

>>9587296
I'm gonna take a picture of my closet. Like the other anon did.. I didn't say take an amazing photo of each of your dresses.

I knew everyone was gonna throw a shitfit over this. You guys are all so picky and compulsive. Especially those of you who automatically assumed you'd have to take a getty images level photo of each of your dresses. Fucking swear...

You know on the auto board people post proof pics of their cars?

it's not about recognition. It's about showing off your hobby which is what we do here, no?

Oh that's right. You all live to tear each other down. Fuck the hobby right?
>>
>>9587466
>...have you ever been on EGL
Yes anon I know. I have albums for both because LJ layout and sizing is shit. I was more referring to how do you label everything if you don't have an album for your dresses. You'd either have to look up every dress or leave them unlabeled. Neither of which sounds like a good idea.
>>
>>9587533
>You know on the auto board people post proof pics of their cars?
Most people only have 1-2 cars. I really don't see the issue with stock photos, I can still get a sense of the person's style. Who cares if it's true or not, it's not like I'd ever meet them anyway. Why can't you just let people admire other people's clothes and taste anon?
>>
>>9587535
>You'd either have to look up every dress or leave them unlabeled
Some of us just memorise the names of our dresses, anon.

Granted I'm a literal autist so that might be part of it, but at 60 dresses I've never had a problem remembering the names, especially since most of them will be in last year's post anyway (for the first post I ever made I did have to manually look everything up). I also have a Word document with links to lolibrary for a few older solids with really generic names I might otherwise forget, and it's not too much of a burden to go back and check receipts for a few pieces each year. A stock photo album just has pictures not the name anyway - you might as well just have a document with a list.
>>
>>9586130
YOU

You sniped Meta's High Waist Shirring Tiered off Wunderwelt before I could and I'm still mad. If it doesn't fit or flatter when it arrives I'd definitely be interested.

I love that shirred AP JSK on the fourth row too, nice taste.
>>
>>9587540
You know you can add descriptions to album images right? And it's more for the blouses, accessories, or socks that don't match a print. I agree dress names are easy to remember, but it makes posting your wardrobe easier when you can copy paste.
>>
>>9587533
I would literally not be able to fit my wardrobe into one picture, or even five. Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable to post a picture if my apartment on cgl. I know people selfpost in draw threads and room threads, but I'm not one of them.
>>
>>9587549
I mean, even with the names I'd be copy-pasting those items into lolibrary to check other details like release year first, so I prefer to operate using either lolibrary's actual wardrobe feature of a document with links to lolibrary, wayback machine, old shop blog posts etc. To each their own and it depends how you organize your wardrobe post and how much information you typically put in it, but for the way I put things together it wouldn't be any easier considering the number of items I have with no stock photos, although I can see why others like doing it (if my wardrobe was mostly recent AP I definitely would).
>>
>>9587465
Ohh that Btssb Nun OP is everything! I would love to find it too someday!
>>
>>9587553
I also place links to lolibrary in the description and include the release year. I don't want to rely on lolibrary if they fail (considering they have in wardrobe functionality). But I also have items with no stock photo and I put those in the album too with description and links to blogs with reference information. You can do what you want, but all of it is possible with an album of images.
>>
>>9587545

For taobao I buy mostly from dear celine and lulu garden, it's great value if you need something to get dirty in but don't want to buy bodyline.

Kinda unrelated, but how do you guys sort the blouses and other accessories that you want to sell?

if you're carefull, it shouldn't fuck up too much. the best thing to do it to remove the stitching on both the bottom and top of the bodice in the places where the boning is, and open up the top too.

I first tried to remove the whole boning piece, but I figured it was way way easier to just remove the plastic strings within the casing with tweezers. you have to pull quite a bit, depending on how your boning pieces are sewn.

I still don't understand why brands don't use boning caps
>>
Wardrobe conversation always made me wonder, since ye olde egl days. Why does one need over 30 main pieces to have an "ok sized wardrobe"? Were you like that with normie clothes as well? Do you have a walk in closet for all that?

I have a collection of ~25 different normie skirts and most people I know consider that way too much already, and they occupy considerably less space than lolita skirts would.
I'm building up now that I finally have a job and five main pieces already feel "sizeable" in terms of wearableness, but not nearly enough for me to stop buying another piece every month.
I don't get it. Is it because lolita has a collecting side to it?

I didn't say post your entire room? Do you not know how to center a photo? Would it really be that hard to get your dresses all together and take a single photo? Even if you have 50 of them, just grab a few and post.

Also, check out this shit:

You're all just paranoid.

Whatever. At least some are posting pictures of the actual dresses.

This is my current wardrobe! (I'm still very new, just approaching about a year in lolita now)

I've only included main pieces, my accessory/blouse collection is coming along steadily as well. I didn't realise I only had one OP so far, i'll aim to get some more in the future! (Excuse the filler space lol, I don't have enough dresses to tile them evenly)

Fucking Japan, what will they think of next? Now all we need is a Hijab print and Cow print for the Muslims and Hindus and we'll have perfection!

Anon Cameo Window's special set comes up a lot more often on the Japanese sites. If you keep an eye out you should be able to find it for around that price again.

lol no one mentioned the KKK-kei cutsew op yet.

ngl my entire love for this series is because it’s the kind of clusterfuck that can only come from genuine blindness to all religions in a sort of uncaring way. Like you can almost imagine a bunch of Japanese people all puzzling over why the gaijin are nitpicking their dress of random cool symbols:

>why can these two symbols be next to each other?
>is judaism vs islam like giants vs tiger?
>oh look, white witches dressed in white with pointy witch hats
>*random egyptian cat* black cats are so rori witchy right?

They just did. It's just a hood that is pointy. Why are you guys so new this literally came out in 2016.
>>
>>9586894
I have around 70 pieces myself but you sound like a cunt.
If you're just "disappointed", fair enough. But don't expect everyone to have a big wardrobe. Also some of us have jobs/things to do and cannot wear it as much as we would like, thus don't have as much.
Also some of us including me are just too lazy to post a collage. It's too much hassle.

As much as I like big and impressive wardrobes I also enjoy small wardrobes. The more cohesive the better. I remember a 12 pieces wardrobe back in the EGL days I absolutely adored.

They are one of my favorites too and so fun to coord! I'd give my right arm for Meta to release medical themes again.

Thank you. Always keep an eye on the dream dress thread, me and other anons are rooting for you.

>>9587789
Thank you anon, a problem shared is a problem halved, haha.
Don't be, old Maxicimam may be beautiful but not too rare. If I see it again or ever decide to sell it, I'll make sure to post it here. The dress next to it is actually Btssb from 2000 or earlier. This anon >>9587465 owns the velveteen version and there seems to be a black colorway too! I don't have any accounts for coords, but I'm contemplating it for some time now.
No I'm sorry, I don't but I found japanese lolitas wearing it in the Gothic&Lolita Book and Kera Maniax: http://imgur.com/a/jszPa (I also added some pictures of the Baby OP in case you're interested)
It does look a bit weird on me personally, but it's a really adorable dress. Just a warning: If you're tall, it's going to be quite short on you. It's nothing an underskirt or a petticoat with matching lace couldn't fix, but still.

>>9587794
Thank you! Some of them are still on the market in other colors. If you want to, I can post or send some links.

>>9587806
Wow anon. I'm flattered, thank you. Though I have to disagree, I see some really elegant wardrobes in here.

>>9587811
There are two days a week and a few occasions where I can't wear it or have to tone it down to the point where it doesn't look lolita anymore, but aside from that I wear it daily, yes.

>>9587844
Heart E's Cross Doll OP and Metamorphose's Engelsbeginn OP my friendo of good taste.

Late to the party but here is my clusterfuck wardrobe. I have a few pieces i couldnt find nice photos of plus some handmade. Im generally buying more IW the past year or so. Most of my wishlist items are IW. I wish i had the willpower to keep a small cohesive wardrobe but i just like wearing a little bit of everything so that probably will never happen.

Most normies have way over 30 "main pieces", that's why Project 333 is a thing and was considered challenging and minimalist to get your wardrobe down to that size. I downsized when I went to university but when I was in HS I basically lived in jeans, T-shirts and hoodies but when I counted my clothes I realised I had over 80 items.

It does look weird to normies to have like 30 dresses specifically though. I wear toned-down vintage-y classic which your typical person might mistake for normie vintage while it's hanging on a rail, and every friend or builder/contractor coming to do a repair that comes into my apartment comments on how many dresses I have and is shocked. Most of my dresses are hidden away in a wardrobe too so they're only seeing the 10-15 pieces that I have out.

I think it is partly the collecting side and also that lolita isn't really worn to be practical, it's worn to embody a certain aesthetic. if someone only likes one specific style and colour palette they might be satisfied with a few pieces but if someone likes a lot of different looks there's definitely a temptation with lolita to want to have the ability to wear all of them in your closet.

I'm glad someone got that blackxwhite tiered skirt, it's super cute and I was considering it myself!

>>9588605
>Don't be, old Maxicimam may be beautiful but not too rare.
You think? There's never more than a handful of Maxicimam pieces on auctions at any given time and a lot of second-hand sites don't have a dedicated tag for it so it's hard to sift through all the Axes Femme etc in the "other" section to find it. I've been a fan of old Maxicimam for a couple of years and only seen a handful of their blackxwhite OPs, and not the ones I love most.

Thanks so much for linking me the pics though! I think I might bite the bullet and get Velveteen Ginger Man when I can, I can't believe I forgot about that coord of it in pink but I'd not seen the blackxwhite coord before. About the other OP, I didn't actually mean the BtSSB cross lace OP, which I'm already familiar with from oldschool threads. I meant the second OP from the left on the fourth row, the one with corset lacing in the front and a long A-line cut that looks old.

>>9588617
Those are some awesome Moitie pieces and I like your raschel Meta OP too.
>>
>>9588636
Sorry anon! I just got it a little over a year ago! I was spamming the DD thread like crazy until i found it. Ill definately post there if i ever see it pop up again (assuming your the one who posted looking for it) I remember when it came out in 2006 and i was just a poorfag high schooler with no brand international shipping, so it was definately my most exciting purchase out of all of them!
>>
>>9588679
Thanks anon! I've been loving Moitie lately for dinner date/family night coordinates! I also wish i had more of an occasion to rock the lace monster trumpet sleeves haha but maybe ill just say fuck it once it starts to cool down and wear it around campus anyways.
>>
>>9587625
That's understandable! It's a beautiful dress. I hope I can be as lucky as you to own it.

Well, it always seemed to me like there's a lot (I can remember seeing it a few times on Wunderwelt) but now after going through the tags you're right, I'm sorry. Maybe searching for the japanese name マム(Mam) マキシマム(Maximam) or a combination of japanese and english helps a bit more. To be honest, I wasn't actively searching for the dress, just got lucky and found it because I bought another dress of the seller.
And god, I feel you with the Axes Femme and other unrelated brands in brand searches. Especially in IW's mercari tag.

Yes, go for it anon! The OP is Metamorphose's High Waist Ladder Lace Tiered OP. Lolibrary lists the year as 2004 but someone wore the white colorway in a GLB from 2003.

>>9592749
It's a Mille Noirs OP from 2006 and was love at first sight, I think there was only one other occasion where I bought a dress that fast lol. After searching the wayback machine for it, google translated the name as "NOP-531 Buckle Long Sleeve OP".
