Fans in head, cooling vest, etc.
>>
>>9573814
I'm not a furry, but there's a few ways to circumvent heat. One common way is by having open slits where the ears are, which works best in more traditional wolf or canine suits where the ears are situated on top of the head. In these cases, the area directly in front of the ears isn't visible to people on ground level, so it's a good place for some big air holes.

Fans can be harder to hide, but it can still be done depending on the style of the suit. You'll want the fan facing backwards so that it's blowing out, this removes hot air from the suit.

Wearing sweat-wicking shirts/pants can also help you feel more comfortable.

Of course it still gets hot, but just taking off the head and paws for just a few minutes helps a lot, since these areas of the body are super important for body temp control.

So much fursuit phobia in this thread. It's as if some of you are literally afraid of them. The majority of people already think cosplay and rorita are fetishes, so why do you have an issue with one thread for yet another perceived fetish? You do realize that the people who make COSPLAY fursuits aren't the same minority who use the furry hobby as a fetish, right?

Fetishes aren't part of the board's allowed topics, so no. These costumes, however, fall directly under the "cosplay" category of allowed topics. The fact that some people fetishize them doesn't make a difference, as long as you're not discussing the fetish itself. Some people fetishize rorita as well, but we're still allowed to discuss the fashion as long as we don't discuss the fetish. Don't be daft, anon. Someone linked me this thread, so here I go again:

Hello,

I'm kind of new to the world of cosplay.

I want to replicate a Soviet/USSR uniform (pic related).

I am a furry (yes I know, I'm sorry for the inconvenience), and I want to combine it with my fursona, which is a Soviet themed bear based on a unit in C&C: RA3, the War Bear. As you can tell, I like the Soviet aesthetic, that's the reason of the uniform and why my fursona is basically a Russian bear. This makes it easy for me where I don't have to buy a full fursuit either, just head and paws.

So it will be the uniform, but with a bear head wearing an Ushanka and bear claws on my hands.
If I want to cosplay at a non-furry con, I can always not wear the bear head and paws and just go with the uniform itself.

My problem now is, the army surplus stores here don't have anything Russian related, so I have to start from scratch.
Does anyone know a good online store to buy army themed stuff, especially Soviet/USSR things. I can find some universal things like pouches and such, but I'd like to stay as close as possible to the original uniform.

P.S.: I'm in Europe, so if possible it should be stores who either ship internationally, or something Europe based (it's weird how I'm closer to Russia than US but I can't find shit).

Thanks.

And no, she doesn't rip anyone off, K-Line is 6-8 people and they only did what the commissioner wanted to pay for and since 2016, Rady doesn't do fursuit work anymore besides headbases+eyes as she is in university.
>>
>>9574593
You can be the best fursuit maker in the world and a shitty OC will look as shitty as it's design, you can't turn a pile of shit into something amazing.
>>
>>9573988

>>
>>9573814
Most of us just deal with it. Some wear under armour and balaclavas so their sweat doesn't damage their suits
>>
>>
>>9574616
>>9574620
Nayrt but most crafters are a one to three person group and still turn out better craftsmanship. The character commissioned is ugly, I can agree, but when it comes to Rady's consistency in craftsmanship, that's another story. Even the premade designs she sells to turn into fursuits never match up to Rufen's quality, even when just coming down to how evenly the fur is shaven. It's just obvious that she didn't really care about the suits people commissioned from her or her overall brand period. I used to really admire her work since Rufen looked so great, but the more years I followed her work, the more I began to recognize that it was obvious she didn't care about her customers' quality.

I understand not being enthusiastic because you find the character ugly, but it doesn't look good for your brand if all the commissioned suits look like shit compared to your own.
>>
>>9574713
I am pretty sure she used yarn.
>>
>>9574726
>the premade designs she sells to turn into fursuits never match up to Rufen's quality
Did you not read any of the posts? The fursuits sold via Showcase are not made by Rady, they are done by some trainees that work with Eixin who is, newsflash, the head of K-Line.
>>
>>9574726
>suits people commissioned from her or her overall brand period
K-Line isn't her brand, that was Pladogs and anything done under K-Line isn't done by her outside of the headbases+eyes as previously mentioned.

It's worthwhile making sure that sort of thing is not banned in your country. It's not uncommon for replicas of Nazi memorabilia including uniform to fall under prohibited merchandise. It might be the case with Soviet replica merchandise since they were pretty bad.

Trident military uses a mail-order style form. Extremely expensive, but very detailed. You are looking at $400 to $800 dollar. Obviously, quality meant to last a lifetime. No idea if they do worldwide, but it's worth mentioning they are the only one I found easily that was secure.

Not a secure site, but they do mention worldwide shipping. They take Paypal. Merchandise much cheaper so it's likely not on par with reenactment quality.

The ones you pointed out aren't specific characters, they're just fursonas. So they look however the furry wants them to look, since there's no base to go off like with pre-established characters. Fursuits that aren't emulating a specific character are generally made to look cartoony, hence the eyes.

I'm not keen on the furry community, but I've got to admit that when fur suits are good, they're really good. There's a group of about four that comes to local conventions in fantasy-themed suits that get more elaborate each year that are pretty neat.

I watched a video a while back on how to make the "tracking" trick for eyes and it's just such a clever optical illusion. Little things like that, or airbrushing in detail, makes a big difference between a cheesy mascot suit, and a cool costume.

Fursuits are costumes, and costumes belong here.
>>
>>9574737
That doesn't look good to me. The fur used on the chin looks all motted and cheap compared to the rest, like it's been shaved down badly.

White knight all you want but they just cast the same fiberglass mold each time, unless it's one of their new "premades" it looks pretty bad. Look at this one, it's a black cat, the most simple of all designs, but it looks so cheap and nasty compared to the other suits
>>
>>9575470
But this is a place for cosplay, we don't have Halloween costume threads or threads for people's OCs. Why are furries different that we need to have a thread about people's OCs?
>>
>>9575485
We have threads for splatoon cosplays, majority of which are squidkid OC's. This thread isn't about OC's, it's about cosplaying your OC's. Cosplay is cosplay no matter if you made the character or if its a mainstream series anon. We're all nerds who dress up, don't be elitist and have fun.
>>
>>9575488
The only Splatoon thread is about cosplaying specific canon characters anon
>>
>>9575492
>>9568278
Unsure if I'm linking this correctly, but if you go into that thread theres a lot of squidkids
>>
>>9575485
We can have a discussion about construction techniques and materials. Cosplayers can learn something from how fursuit makers handle faux fur or change their body shapes.

Or, you know you can hide threads if you don't like them.

Which is the same way Rufen looks in its versions before and even that one is full of flaws, like how it has grey-ish stains next to the lashes and glue all over the nose which makes it look like someone did cum on it.

>White knight all you want but
You are the one praising her Rufen into hell and back while it is the same quality as everything else.

>unless it's one of their new "premades" it looks pretty bad
Funny considering that they are worse, best example is the Griffon with the faulty eyes, uneven horns, missing hair (it hot hair on the ref) or the Tabby with the airbrush that was done before shaving which resulted in wierd spots, the glue stained lashes, the staining all around the mouth, etc.

Not really? I mean I kind of went into it blind, and just googled the shit out of it. It's going to be a lot harder to handle than yarn bc it's pretty fine, but it's still doable.
From what I remember from my research, kanekalon can be hard to maintain so....keep that in mind too I guess.
You might want to make the hairpiece separate so you can clean it and the head separately.

I always think of mascots in terms of whether they're representing something bigger than just a single character.

Like Pikachu suits. By themselves, they could be a fursuit. But in general, they're mascots, because they're used to represent the Pokemon brand as a whole, rather than just that one character.

So a fursuit can be a mascot suit (Felyne is definitely more like a fursuit than many mascots, for example), or a mascot suit can be something else entirely (ie: those inflatable Pikachus that are used for events, or the suits they use at anime expos for other franchises. Pic related. Not really a fursuit, definitely a mascot suit)
>>
>>9577137
Mascots are commissioned by a company to promote their product or IP. Fursuits are owned by people who wear them for fun.

Japanese suits are cute AF but they can't be easy to wear with those itty bitty mouths. This is Tirol by TashiroYu.

The crossover between furries and anime fans is all teenagers and penguins of d00m in my experience, so you're not getting a good sample.

This is the leg padding for a raccoon suit by Henrieke (I think). I've never seen anyone else do it this way.

I mean, it can be how it works if you aren't adding any padding. A lot of fursuit makers don't have a solid sewing and tailoring background, so they drape their patterns. You can use a pattern for footie pajamas, or learn2pattern draft.

Pic is from Noble Wolf. He's the only maker I could think of who posts pictures like this. He makes a lot of fucksuits, so don't look him up unless you want to see furry balls.

That's super cool actually! Are they relatively customizable, like if the point is too curved for my taste? I worry about sanding too much if that's the case. Can their foam ones be hinged?
>>
>>9582994
It seems like you could sand it down to be less curved! It might just take a long time. And I'm pretty sure if you want a moving jaw on a foam head, you have to go through a whole other process and don't get quite as crisp or sensitive jaw movements.
>>
I never thought I'd ever be in a fursuit thread but most of these look pretty cool. How do you all survive in a crowded con with all that fur?
>>
>>9582465
I've always wondered how challenging it is on a technical scale to make something like a bird partial. I think a bird head would jsut be something fun to have around...
>>
>>9583007
Good point! The head itself would be an awesome starting point but yeah the point is a bit too big for me and the eyebrows are also more bulky than I'd like. I may look into getting an uncut one and trying to reshape some of it. Looking at them again the foam ones are also shorter... welp.

I've personally never done it but from a few friends of mine that have, it's a bit of a challenge but thats p much the same with any elaborate cosplay. Thats why most of the time you have someone with you that isn't in a fursuit so that they can pretty much be your eyes and ears. So if you need water, they can get it for you, and if you can't see or hear shit they can help you actually walk around without mowing anyone over.
Technically they're called handlers but that sounds too stupid for me to even take it seriously.
Do you guys think that if they were available, there would be a substantial market for fursuit eyes produced in the style of those made for bjds? As in cast with glitter/cabochons/etc. embedded in them (like those produced by Oscar Doll for example, would attach but image limit is maxed).

I think they could look very cool for a sparkledog or kemono style mask.
>>
>>9596283
I for one wouldn't mind seeing eyes like that. Some of them look gorgeous. One issue I see of course is vision. With some masks they do have black/white buckram 'tear ducts' (not sure the exact name of that feature) to see out of instead of eyes. So they'd work there. Otherwise the visibility may be bad.

Also begs the question, how expensive would they be if manufactured in larger sizes?
>>
Being someone who owns a K-Line suit and hearing from others who have commissioned Rady, she has totally ripped off these customers. Designs of the sonas being bad or not, my suit personally is riddled with obvious flaws that not even amateur suit makers make.I dont say any of this out of spite, I still like the work K-Line produce but it is really the truth.

There was a period of time people were copying Rufen's design which made Rady depressed (this was around the 2-3 year wait for my fursuit that was promised to be completed in 8 months, long story). This most likely was a big reason to Rady and the K-Line team's lack in quality at the time as well as the long wait for their international fursuit slots.

Again, I still like the suits of quality they make and they did go back to putting more effort in their newer suits. But if you saw mine or a couple other people's suits who commissioned them, it was not worth the $4,500+ I paid for it.

More to the story but would rather save my time writing it out.
>>
>>9596505
I imagined they could only be used with tear-duct vision or on neck-vision masks. As for costs, I've seen bjd eye-artists sell eyes close to the needed size (30mm-40mm) sell for around $20 but I don't know at how much of a loss the artists were working at. Oscar Doll which is pretty "luxury" sells 28mm for $40.
>>
>>9596786
Forgot to add, my concern is that there isn't a big enough market for "luxury" eyes to be used in fursuits to justify the startup costs since I haven't done any resin crafting before and don't have the materials. My other thought is that they could also be fitted into pendants and jewlery? Regardless I'm thinking it'd be best if I did a lot of artists alleys and marketing at cons which is not within my reach atm.
>>
>>9596562
yeah, her commissioned quality suits never really looked quite as good as her personal ones.
it's a real shame, i noticed it pretty early on and almost commissioned her on FA a couple years ago too. wish she didnt disable the page or else id pull up some pretty bad offenders.

the suits r still cute tho. she's kinda like a japanese version of mars, visually appealing suits but requires some at-home fixes.
>>
on another note, wasn't lemonbrat previously a known cosplay scammer?
i actually ended up commissioning her a partial of my oc and really liked it, but i remember vaguely hearing about her old alias on the older fursuit threads.
she's pretty much cleared her name it seems, but i do recall she recycled a friend of mine's pre-made design (a red/blue red panda) after selling it at another con, he ended up buying the feetpaws off of the recycled one lmao. don't think anyone bought it because they saw him running in virtually the same suit.
>>
>>9575504

Haha this was taken at rosemont for furfest. I went to the mall with my friends the weekend this was going on so I thought we should check it out. it was pretty surreal seeing so many fursuiters in one location
>>
>>9596283
That would sell EXTREMELY well. However realistic fursuit eyes are 1", friendlier ones are 1.5" and sometimes makers use even bigger ones. Can you make them that size?

>>9594653
>>9594782
preeeeetty sure it's just shiny and weirdly lighted/reflecting stuff,
>>
>>9597214

I also have done two videos on the tubes being my unboxing video and my experiences with K-Line.

I'll also add this. I spoke to a person who commissioned them the same time I did. In a nutshell, k-Line apparently royally f*cled their suit up. Not only was the quality so bad they didn't put it on their Facebook page, but they inverted the colours. They were so sad they had to get rid of the suit. Feel really sorry for them. Sadly I don't have proof of this situation so take that as you wish but my own is a sad truth.

Ok yes it's def you. I just watched your two vids and honestly it pained me. You were saying you were a positive person and all but I felt like I was getting secondhand denial. $4500 aud for something that looks like a Rufen recolor? And that wait time would have given me insane anxiety. I got anxious just watching you talk about it.
At least the suit is cute but anything less than 100% likeness for that money and time is just bullshit.

Speaking of bullshit, getting so depressed over people fucking copying your character species that you default on your liabilities for 2-3 years? Screw them, honestly. That's weak.
>>
>>9597062
afaik lemonbrat has been on the straight for a while now. I heard stories of them being sketchy several years ago but nothing like that since. I commissioned two kigus from them over the past couple of years and am really happy with how they came out. Not really a fan of their fursuit faces though but I would recommend the kigs
>>
>>9597537
My sona looks nothing like Rufen, has no patterns or similarities to face or species. If anything he is basic af, I guess it's how the artist bring the character out that can man it pop or not I guess.

But yeah how K-Line chose to creating him tho was definitely a rushed job no doubt and if anything, looks like a replica of every ok K-Line suit (which would be fine if only the quality was there).

I'm a pretty forward person, never beat around the bush kind of type so I'll tell ya now there is no denial, like you said and like I said in my video, it is what it is and he still looks cute enough so that's how I take it. I mean if the facts are brutal then I see how it makes me look like I'm trying to look at it differently but again, the facts about it are sad so can't sugarcoat that stuff lol
>>
>>9596562

>>9598154
As far as I know, all including my fursuit hair are foam. I remember them making some kemono bases but those weren't for their use at the time, they told them at a con from my knowledge.

I guess it comes with just making so many kemono heads that the looks sticks but the look wasn't the issue, just quality.
>>
>>9598139
Oh yeah totally. Didn't mean that's how you saw it nor would it matter really, just that with how basic the sona is in a lot of way, how they could stuff it up and not taking the information I field out in the commission sheet at all while they crafted.

Yeah it literally flew past me, but I am aware of this. My head tho was just a foam base, I remember asking ages ago and Rady said they will be just foam. >>
Well, I think I've said enough on the topic so take the K-Line stuff as you all wish. My experience alone was clearly unfair but im sure there are very happy customers from them. Still love the work they do but its fair to call out the bad stuff, especially in this case where a lot of my and other customers money was involved and the wait + lack of communication (and in my case small lies too, e.g. Being told the fur takes a lot of time to come in then seeing a complete suit 2 weeks after but they had waited 2, nearly 3 years for the fur to come in?) Such a long story ugh.

Enjoy the rest of your day
