Has anyone here seen anything about this Ishoku Hada fad in Japan? Thoughts?
>>
What is this, some kind of fashion style where people try to look like aliens?
>>
>>9554890
yup
>>
This is giving me homestuck flashbacks
>>
Is this some sort of themed offshoot of shironuri?
>>
>>9554886
This is super cute, but cringe at the same time.

I like it

Apparently it's not even a fad. It was just some friends who decided to go out and take photos but they're hoping it'll catch on. It draws inspiration from stuff like IMVU and other virtual self games where you can customize the skin colors.

>>
>>9554886
Yes, it has been around for a while.
>>
>>9554886
I genuinely love this and want it to be a thing.
>>
Oh nooo, it's like uchuu-kei (good) with body paint (bad). I doubt this will catch on just because no one wants to go through all the damn effort of body paint for a daily fashion, BUT I definitely can see the fashion catching on. Walk into your local Forever 21. Even they have all of this holographic vaporwave/uchuukei/space-y looking clothes.

Wow a lot of these photos are really unattractive. The thrown together clothes combined with the lack of contouring makes it pretty unfortunate.
>>
>>9555111
it seems like the idea is for it to be casual alt-fashion, where the goal is more to look bizarre than attractive

it's at least interesting, very evocative of campy sci-fi alien designs
>>
>>9555116
I'm all for bizarre looks, but there's a difference between a look that doesn't look conventionally pretty and a look that looks like the wearer is lazy. All of these girls need to use more than one tone on their facepaint.
>>
I'm definitely curious how it can evolve if people put in a lot more effort. I can appreciate the general idea, though. Also like how the red demon girl in >>9554922 looks more 'normally' dressed in contrast.
>>
>>9554922
I'm living for the red demon seifuku girl, what a look
>>
>>9555111
actually, i think it looks pretty cool.
i feel bad for anyone they touch without sealing their body paint though.
>>
I'm way into it, holy shit. There's a lot of potential here. Girls need to do a better job w the body paint but there's a lot of potential here for some crazy looks!!

>>
I'm cool with green skinned girls walking around
>>
I love the look, but as a former Homestuck troll, I can't see it catching on. It's messy, expensive, and takes forever to put on. I could see stores and bars banning it. Maybe if they got on the ball about arm tights, but it only takes a few idiots making a mess to give a bad rep.
>>
Love the idea but so far the execution isn't fantastic. If it were me I would try to make outfits that showed as little skin as possible to use less paint or used those colored tights for arms/legs.

The stories of messy unsealed paint still haunt me.

OP alien and oni demom girl are the best by far though
>>
>>9555111
That literal black face one tho
>>
Hm. I like it. I can see this will create a whole lot of unsightly attempts, but what j-fashion doesn't. Like most things, it'll be good if it's done well.
>>
This is not a fad. It's ONE photoshoot that foreign news jumped on for the stereotypical Japan u so wacky shit.
>>
>>9555630
........................ someone just had to throw in the blackface comment. Even though it is not even blackface. It's just charcoal black paint on skin. Not someone painting themselves brown to dress up as Lil Wayne on halloween. Ffs.
>>
This is really cute, but I wish there was better way to go about this than body paint. It honestly looks so unflattering in real life and in most photos. Maybe mesh colored body suits and only face paint? It looks other worldy for sure, like I'm in some Space Dandy episode!

Yeah the article says it's not a fad (just OP claiming that) but the girls involved said they hoped it caught on and there's already a fashion similar (shironuri) so it's not that much of a stretch to say it could catch on.

Some shironuri artists go all out into monster/otherworldly themed looks so really the only difference here is instead of white paint it's colored.

I personally love the style. It'll probably catch on for cons and stuff, but never daily wear, unless the face paint is minimal and not full coverage. Pic related is a good example of it imo.

I actually just made plans with a friend of mine to try ishoku hada out at a local convention. I'm interested to see what other people's reactions are, and I plan on incorporating uchuu-kei styles into it if I can.

>>
>own several spandex full body glitter suits

th-thanks japan
>>
>>9558322
Do it in layers.
Between every layer seal it with transparent powder sealer. Youll know its properly sealed when its not sticky to the touch and doesn't color transfer instantly.
After the final layer (usually third ) use a liquid sealer on top of the final powder seal.
I recommend ben nye final seal for liquid.

Thanks, anon! I'm so excited to try this out.

Visible seams look ugly and not as good as having nice body paint.
When you watch alien movies, seams from a body suit would kill the effect.

>>
>>9560307
I'm sensing some misdirected insecurity. It's just a fucking fashion subculture, calm down.

>"keep your shitty body paint away from me and my clothes"
Are you new? Do you not know what sealing body paint is?
>>
>>9560330
This is glorified cosplay, not a fashion subculture. If you take the body paint out, yes, we're back to fashion. Right now, it's a costume.

I do know what sealing body paint is. I'm not retarded. Just think for a minute, though. Do even the most skilled cosplayers manage to seal EVERYTHING? No. They miss spots. That's for a costume they prepped for months. It's going to be a lot worse when it's a "fashion" like this, possibly even intended for daily wear and not just to wear at meets/cons.
>>
>>9560367
I guess Shironuri is just cosplay too then.
>>
>>9560371
Shironuri isn't painting your whole body. It's just face makeup. I mean at the end of the day, it's going to be a costume (along with every other fashion on this board save for maybe larme) to normies, but the average person interested in alt-fashion would be able to tell otherwise. There's not a character behind the outfit, if that makes any sense.
>>
>>9560367
It's pretty easy to notice that you missed a spot, though. Especially when using powder sealer.
Un sealed paint has a wet look to it, while sealed is more soft and matte.
It's like being able to tell the difference of wet paint and dry paint, especially if they're right next to each other.
Body paint ISNT that hard to seal, I don't know why youre insisting that it is.
>>
>>9560383
>Body paint ISNT that hard to seal, I don't know why youre insisting that it is.
YOU are smart and know how to pay attention to detail. The average person is not. Do you not remember the body paint hell that was happening during Homestuck? And a bit more currently with Steven Universe. The last con I went to, some blue bitch bumped into me and there were blue spots on my outfit from that. Don't underestimate how stupid the average person is. I'm not trying to insult you (or any of the people in this thread) because I know seagulls generally have a higher standard. It's not going to be just seagulls trying this trend out, though.
>>
>>9560387
>YOU are smart and know how to pay attention to detail. The average person is not.
T-this is true.
I wish more people actually took their damned time with body paint.
As I noted- it actually ISN'T that hard. You just have to pay attention and not rush it.
It took me 2-3 hours to do my face, neck, and arms.
>>
>>9560373

I did this like last week, it was really fun. I painted my entire body with Mehron Paradise and didn't seal because I was just testing but it didn't transfer too much.

Honestly I hate that people are calling this a fad, it's too labor intensive to really catch on as anything and maybe you'd wear it to cons but that doesn't count to me when trying to call it a fashion trend. Honestly it's really just oc cosplay if anything.
