I think to an extent everyone has social anxiety, but once you realize at a con it's one of the few times you'll genuinely meet people with your interests, if you're open to them, you'll find out it really wasn't too bad at all.

For example when our group went to Neon district meet a bunch of qt lolis, we just started shit talking about anime with a group of girls out of nowhere as they walked out of the bathroom, then boom, make a move for a kiss. Cringe as hell but still good memes all around.

AX was super fun this year for me, very busy but super fun.

Every AX I always go and stay in AA/exhibit hall to blow money but this time since i was low on funds, i stayed out so I ended up meeting lots of new people and making friends, I guess you could say it was a blessing in disguise not having much to spend

Went to Night Cafe. Poledancer was legit. Host was cool. Everyone in the room looked like they were having fun. Free drink too, although watered down from the extreme amount of ice.

Maid cafe was much better this year because the Maidreaming girls did a bunch of songs unlike the one song last year. Some crazy fucks brought their lightsticks and penlights and started doing wotagei.

I spent most of my time going to industry panels. Was this the wrong way to spend AX? I barely had any time to shop or explore the exhbitors hall. It was my first AX, so I wasn't sure like how to prioritize stuff. My biggest regret was the love live panel. The girls were there for 30 minutes out of the whole two hour time slot and I waited for hours in line, too...

Eh, I enjoyed it. The water station had no lines, u just needed a cup.

The drinks were $10 which is cheap compared to everything else around.

And I liked the music. The vibe around my dance area was all love and fun. Even Slushii was pretty good.

There's bag check in west hall upstairs near con ops. I've used it before with an all-con for $25 and a big suitcase. Pull it out to stash stuff as needed. $25/4 days was worth it for not having to drag all that shit around.

I had a great experience at AX. Out of all the years going to this shitty expo, this one is my personal favorite. Hotel group I stayed were awesome as shit. Both meet ups attended were fantastic and became damn good friends with many of them. Raving with the trap crew was the best moment.

Everyone at the meetup are beautiful bastards. I will see you all at ALA. We need a sequel to that party we had last year.

I have one regret, but honestly if it wasn't for that one regret, I would never have met this super awesome person who (to me) feels very special. I hope we remains friends to the bitter end. As for the regret: I'm sorry that I "left you alone" but it seems it worked out nicely. Maybe next time we can hang out.

Pretty sure one of the security guards took my energy drink simply because he wanted it. He told me it's policy to not allow cans into the convention center, even though I had no problem bringing soda in the entire rest of the weekend.
The weekend was full of annoyances, but overall more good than bad. Seeing Yoh Yoshinari in person and watching him work his magic at the Trigger live drawing was definitely the highlight of the weekend.
I've already bought my badge for next year. Should I camp out now to avoid the line?

I am going to miss the cosplays. It really motivated me to try for one next year.

I'm not outgoing enough to know where to find people like that, actually. I live in a kind of small town in a secluded, boring area. It all comes down to realizing most people you want to get to know (be that romantic or just for fun) you will generally have something in common. Find a way to break the ice but don't force it. If you are at a convention it's easy because if they are open (as in not talking to someone or doing something) you can notice something (like a dog or a badge or a cosplay) and talk to them from there. If someone isn't giving signs that they are interested than you might not want to risk it but generally if they are you can detect those signs but they take practice to detect. Most important don't get stressed, I know that sounds hard but once you realize there is no real divide between you and them it is easy.
This is stuff I learned going to conventions and applied it to life outside of it. Try it next time you are at a /cgl/ meet.

Did the maid cafe, wasn't 'as' shit as people made me think it'd be. Maid dreaming part was cool, rest felt like it was put together by highschool kids.
Exhibition hall was lame as ever, every other booth was selling the exact same crap.
Monocrome concert with that engrish was hella awkward, they didn't even bother to animate those segments!

On one hand, the Raddison is the headquarters hotel, but it's a pretty low quality hotel. On the other hand, the Raddison seems to be aware of that and kinda lets some shit pass that would never pass in other hotels.

yes, the workers actually do keep an eye on you. i worked there for almost 3 years and heard a good amount of people get fired for bringing friends in and then splitting off.

Ayyy, also bay area. I'm sure there's way more of us, met a ton of strangers from around here at AX.

This year was a lot better for me just due to my group. Last year was the first time I stayed in a hotel with a group, and it was kind of a nightmare. This year I was put in charge of everything and it went relatively smooth, and the conzilla girl who made it a nightmare last year had to answer to me, which pissed her off to my pleasure. Thankfully we didn't see each other at all during the days, and only when we went to the hotel.

I did a Rin Matsuoka cosplay, and my friend did Haru, and we got asked for pictures a bunch of times which felt pretty good. Only thing is on day 3, I would be standing next to him and on five separate occasions girls would come up to him and ask for only a picture with him, and then proceed to fangirl over him. That kinda hurt but main character privilege I guess.

I also did a Mako Mankanshoku crossplay, and for my first time crossdressing in public (not private) I think it went pretty well. The girl who was going to do my makeup was also the girl pissed off at me, so I don't think I was passing all that much. I got asked for only one picture, which was more than I hoped for I guess. At least I was popular at the dance for wearing the skirt with no shirt.

Overall it was a good time. Next year I think I'd like to finally go to a meetup, since every convention I go to I hope to make new friends but instead I just awkwardly wait for someone to approach me. Meeting a girl would be nice too, but I don't wanna be that guy.
