Connecticon is in less than two weeks. How's everyone's cosplays coming along? Did your panel submission (not) get accepted?

At least there's going to be 18+ panels this year?
>>
Every year I think about going and then just forget about it.
>>
>>9536299
Every year I go and I forget about it soon afterwards. Con hasn't stood out to me for a while. If it weren't for the fact it was so close and so many of my friends go who knows if I would keep going
>>
>>9535947
We'll see when last minute items get here. My car broke a couple weeks ago so I had been strapped for cash for a while. Hopefully Stevonnie still comes out half decent
>>
>>9535947
This'll be my 4th year going but it honestly looks pretty crap this year. There's like 0 good panels; this year it's all just photoshoots which isn't really something im into. They have a couple of decent guests but other than that there isn't much to look forward to. I'm going as Tommy Wiseau/Johnny and I just need to grab a crappy wig from party city. My panel for a script reading of The Room got denied but I'm gonna resubmit again.
>>
None of the panels look interesting, not even the 18+.
I'm just gonna do what I always do, just hang out with friends and browse the Dealer's/AA and maybe hit up the masquerade. I would like to meet Claudia Grey, but she's the only guest I'm interested in.
CTCon is always just the same old boring shit, I'd never go if I wasn't local.
>>
>>9536670
what are the 18+ events this year? the site is shitting itself right now and i cannot find it
>>
Coming saturday as beach bum jotaro. Looking for activites between the jojo shoot and tue deathmatch
>>
>>9536701
Yeah, the website is horrendous. They need to get themselves a real web designer.

Friday:
Team FourStar 18+
The Jamie Noguchi System

Saturday:
Super Art Fight UNLEASHED!
Guests Against Humanity
>>
>>9536788
At least the colors for the website aren't blinding this year.

That's a lot less 18+ than I was hoping for. I know the schedule is unfinished but two years ago I remember there being a lot more variety in the adult panels. I'm guessing Fakku is probably never going to be back.
>>
>>9536880
>tfw I missed Fakku every year
>>
Is anyone going to any of the Convivial events? The only one I went to last year was the rave for five seconds before I left due to it being stupid hot. Any others going on that might be fun?
>>
>>9536965
They're having Convivial at the bar across the street, NIXS (which has pretty shitty reviews on yelp). I'm planning on checking it out, but probably won't stay that long if it sucks.
>>
>>9537011
I mean it can't be much worse than last year.

...right?
>>
>>9537052
Never say never when it comes to CTCon...

So Convivial posted that they're going to livestream the dance. ....What.
>>
>>9537052
its looking to be way worse bruv
>>
Best guest.
>>
>>9538394
This was the last person I expected to be there, but the only guest I'm kinda excited about
>>
>>9538405
For once, CTCon's totally random guest selection pays off!
>>
>>9537011

Where does it say theyre having it there?
>>
>>9538688
They've only posted it on a video on the Convivial FB page. (Because why would they put it anywhere convenient?)
>>
>>9536788
Am professional web designer. The website could be made half decent with but a single weekend's worth of work, which I'd do for money...

But not for CTcon. I would sooner shoot myself in the foot than work for the trash known as Michael Daigle.

closing the con before midnight was his unofficial resignation. He doesn't care about the convention anymore he just wants to milk it for as much money as he can before it falls apart.
>>
>>9540010
But in other news I'm going Saturday. It'll be the first year since like 2012 that I only go one day.

Honestly probably just going to wander the exhibit halls and do the MtG prerelease (assuming they have one--haven't looked at the schedule yet)

I don't have a lot of faith in the panels.

I wish I had time to build a cosplay this summer but I've just been too busy with finally having a full time job and having to study on top of it.

On the bright side I'm 21 this year so I can do a bar meetup with y'all
>>
>>9540010
Micheal Daigle seems to exist as con head just because the con needs one. From his fb posts it seems that he doesn't know what's going on with his con half the time. The way they handled panels was super unprofessional.

>>9540021
Ctcon itself will not be having a MtG pre-release. If you want to do that you have to drive 15 minutes to Daigle's store in Newington. No, seriously.
>>
>>9540021

yea its actually a fun con to be 21 at. Im 25 now and had most my fun with boozing with congoers and even guests at this con
>>
>>9540028
>have to drive 15 minutes to do the prerelease at his store
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, he's done it

>the way they handled panels was super unprofessional
I wish i was on the board because I genuinely have no idea what happened
You could make a playbook with how many complaints there were last year, but they ignored almost all of them and jacked up the prices to put the cherry on top.
He's way too prideful to give up control of the convention but seriously dude if you ran it at such a loss that you have to up the prices without upping the quality then please pass the torch. People didn't always hate you.

Hobbyist communities are so, so, so feedback-focused, you can't just ignore people. It's so infuriating too, because it's not a big con so in the broad view of things it doesn't matter, but it's the only local con here so I care about its success and it hurts me to see it failing.

And the worst part is I feel like I can't approach the people in charge with advice or offers to help because they'll ignore me.

I mean look at their panel management team: rym and scott have a proven track record--in the past they've organized panels at such events as pax, yet ctcon panels are shit now--it has to be because they're bing micromanaged.
>>
>>9540049
>He's way too prideful to give up control of the convention but seriously dude if you ran it at such a loss that you have to up the prices without upping the quality then please pass the torch.

ITT: people who don't remember the early years when every single CTcon was losing so much money that Daigle had emergency fundraisers begging for cash because he can't budget for shit.
>>
>>9540028
>Ctcon itself will not be having a MtG pre-release. If you want to do that you have to drive 15 minutes to Daigle's store in Newington. No, seriously.

That's so fucking scummy holy shit.

I wasn't very aware of the politics/orchestration of CTcon but it sounds like such a cluster fuck based on this thread.
>>
>>9540028
>Ctcon itself will not be having a MtG pre-release. If you want to do that you have to drive 15 minutes to Daigle's store in Newington. No, seriously.

Haven't they always done a lot of their Magic stuff at the store for the last several years, though?
To be fair, they ARE doing pre-release stuff on Saturday of the con, they're just not doing it at midnight because they don't have the con center that late. I am definitely not a fan of Daigle, I think he's a piece of shit, but on this I don't think he's in the wrong. There's no point in keeping shit open later at the con for a midnight MtG event when you can just have it the next day.
I'm not a fan of them closing everything at 9, but you have to admit it would be stupid to shell out a bunch of extra $ just for Magic.

>>9540505
#SaveConnectiCon2005 man.
>>
Daigle sounds like a serious fuck up. I'm relatively new to CTcon, can I get a history of his exploits?
>>
>>9540525
I'd agree with you if it weren't for the fact that the tabletop games aren't in the convention center. They're in the Marriott and the game room is open until 2am. They could easily have it in there
>>
>>9540532
Oh, fair enough, then. I don't usually pay attention to where the gaming stuff is at cons.

>>9540529
Long story short, he's only in it for the money. He does not, and never has, truly given a shit about the congoers actually enjoying themselves. As long as people are still buying badges, that's all he cares about, bottom line.
>>
Any times/plans for a /cgl/ meetup?
>>
>>9540699
Looks like hotel bar so far, no confirmed day or time though
>>
>>9540505
Funny that Ctcons contract with the cc is up in 2018 and word is Dagle wants to sell so...
>>
Any sex parties going on at the Con hotels?

got pushed into a group overwatch cosplay this year with my normie friends, so I'll be doing pic related with minimal effort.

Definitely down for the meet up though, everyones always pretty chill when I see you guys every year. We actually got a hotel room this time (despite living only 30min away) so that we can get hammered and not worry after hours.
>>
Schedule is (mostly) up on the Gather Events app.

According to some staff comments on fb, though, schedules are still being finalized. ... It's almost like they don't realize the con is in 4 days.
>>
Panel list seems pretty dry this year. Even though they claimed they had variety based on what people submitted considering that most of these are guests panels I don't see it. Might go to one or two panels, might not. We'll see
>>
>>9536880
>>9536934

Fakku will most likely never be returning with a booth. Daigle called us stale and took away our guest status after the old head of the online media guest hall promised a returning spot.

For shits and gigs I might just make a new panel for next year since I live in CT anyways and I want a free badge.
>>
>>9542975
That's a shame. Good luck getting in with a panel however, Ctcon only cares about guest panels
>>
>>9542975
Do they give panelists free badges now? Back when I did them (when the con was small) they didn't give us jack shit.
>>
>>9543250
Last time I checked they'll give you badges for the next con if you do a lot of panels, but if their current way of picking panels stays I doubt you'll be able to hit that.
>>
>>9540915

Just an orgy I am organizing at the Hilton to fullfill a fantasy my girl desires. Basically to be able to stroke and suck two guys off as she lays there getting ass banged by another dude while I screw her in the front. Then finish it off with a bukkake from all of us.
>>
I wonder if toe suck is going to be there.
>>
>>9542975
Wow that is a really shitty thing for a con head to say to a decent guest. Based on the other 'stale' groups that they invite back every single year; you probably got booted because they didn't want to have a porn website as a guest.

I think that's 'kind of' justified if they're trying to be a MUCH MORE family friendly con, but they could have at least outright said that instead of "lol ur stale."

I seriously hope you guys do come back though.
>>
Is the Hilton too far to be considered a party hotel?
>>
>>9543901
Hello- that sounds amazing. Please advise if you are still searching for prospective candidates. Thank You.
>>
>>9544291
I plan on throwing a room party at the Hilton, but I'm not letting in any males. I heard that there are going to be several coed room parties at the Marriott.
>>
If the meet up is going to be in the marriott bar; maybe we should do it a bit earlier than later. That place fills up with gawking normies pretty fast. I remember last year there were these middle aged dudes with no connection to the con sitting at the bar talking shit about all the girls in cosplay.
>>
>>9544320
Yea, I was at the meet up last year and all the 40 somthing guys at the bar were either drunk and cringy or just assholes. There's also riverfest this year so I prefer something on site with less hood rat's skulking around.
>>
>>9544334
I'd suggest City Steam, but it seems impossible without knowing how many of us would be attending ahead of time. Last minute groups of 15+ most likely take 2 hours to be seated.
>>
If I were to host a room party at the Residence Inn, would anyone go?
>>
>>9544424
Not sure of the layout of Hartford but if it's close I don't see why not. Finally free of clingy people this year and just want to mingle and drink.
>>
>>9540525
Oh so it's just the midnight prerelease they're skipping? That's more fair, they've done that before (I don't see that on the schedule but the schedule is incomplete and the website is difficult to nav so i'll assume you're correct).

>>9540540
Hasn't he openly expressed disappointment with anime and otakus as a whole?

>>9540893
>sell

>>9542975
Despite my expressions, I actually don't care that much about all the things like price hikes and moving the rave--the one thing that ticked me off enough to make me start complaining about everything is the decision to close the convention earlier and to stop supporting risque 18+ content. My friends and I loved the 18+ panels, and they were full every year we went--wildly successful, not stale. And how does getting rid of them make it "family friendly"? Eliminating content that minors never got exposure to in the first place makes zero difference to minors. And it's not like they're replacing the 18+ panels since the con hours were shortened.
Bigger cons have the luxury of forgoing 18+ content because they're oft in big cities with impressive night life, and where content creators can host meetups outside the convention center. Hartford is not that kind of city (thanks, Malloy)

[EndLoop]
>>
>>9544478
Actually I rescind my comment about 18+ stuff being necessary for unimpressive cons--it's not and that was poorly worded, but the panel content at ctcon is otherwise very uninteresting so there's no real appeal to adults in terms of panels.
>>
It's funny. I always tell myself that this will be the last year I go to Connecticon yet I end up coming back. I've met so many friends there and we all recognize the con has gotten a lot better in aspects we don't care about, and a lot worse in way we do care about.

I have a feeling I'm going to spend about 80% of the day time in my hotel room drinking and having fun.
>>
>>9544478
>Hasn't he openly expressed disappointment with anime and otakus as a whole?

From what I've heard Diagle doesn't care for anime. There's a reason basically all of the anime panels this year are voice actor Q&As. Same also applies to cosplay. There's a reason why there's been no cosplaying guests.

>>9544512
I basically only go to Ctcon for the fact that almost all my friends go. If it was just me I would have stopped a while ago.
>>
>>9544512
CTcon is confirmed shit show. I go because it's my one summer full weekend con and a I have a lot of friends I only ever see at CTcon. I always buy my tickets early for cheap prices, though, and ignore 95% of the con content.

Just walk around and get my picture taken.
>>
>>9544814
Same here pretty much. Just with more day drinking and nostalgia fagging about when the con was better.

The mood is real.

What are everyone's plans for cosplay? I'll be Sarah Lynn from Bojack, Brittany from MPGIS, and Tooth Fairy from Fairly Oddparents. Might bring one or two alternates just in case I'm not feeling one of the first two, though.
>>
>>9545331
My post here for what I'm going as >>9541141

But I agree on the feeling as well. I am really paying alot of money for access to an overpriced flee market since non of the Panasonic interest me. I like the whole party bus cosplay crawl thing but really I just want to cosplay and hang out with people, which shouldn't be as expensive as they are making it, along with a million badge checkpoints
>>
>>9545348
Legit, I half expect one of them to shout "vere are your papers!" when I pass by a door. Turn a corner, show your badge. Pass a door, show the badge. Show your badge, show your badge. It's ridiculous.

I'm hoping the cloud of vape and cigarette smoke clears from the stairs long enough for me to enjoy them this year, though, otherwise I'll be spending a lot of time in the hotel asking myself why I bothered to come.
>>
>>9545331
Serval from Kemono Friends. I have most of it done, just need to make my ears and finish the tail.

I'll have to go bar hopping with people next year once I'm actually old enough to do that. I don't really drink, but it seems like fun.
>>
>>9544424
Absolutely
>>9544320
Just post a time
>>
>>9543910

Wasnt he like banned last year tho?
>>
>>9545717
They should bring him back as one of the unexpected guests
>>
>>9544478
>Oh so it's just the midnight prerelease they're skipping? That's more fair, they've done that before (I don't see that on the schedule but the schedule is incomplete and the website is difficult to nav so i'll assume you're correct).

My source is what Daigle said on the fb group in response to the angry Magic nerds. I assume it's correct info, as it would obviously make them money so I don't see why they wouldn't.
>>
>>9545717
ConnectiCon actually gives enough of a shit to ban people? Wow.
>>
pdfs of the schedule were uploaded to the facebook group. Does this mean the schedule's finally done? I might give AB shit for uploading the schedule a week before the con but holy shit at least it's a finished schedule at that point.
>>
>>9545354
Last year was horrendous for badge checking, and the fact that you could simply pass through the stairs outside is absurd. Either put badge checkers on the top and bottom of the stairs or put them at the doors, not both, there's literally no reason for it.

But CTcon is still lax about badges in ways other cons aren't.
At PAX East they had badge checkers on the floor (also stupid--put faith in the people at the doors jesus--but it's understandable b/c it's a huge con), and what pissed me off the most was that I had to wear the badge around my neck.
CTcon guards let me keep my badge looped on my belt. I'm okay being asked to show my badge more if I'm allowed to wear it comfortably.
>>
>>9546866
Never had a qualm with producing a schedule late...it's not like I go for the panels anyway
>>
Is the goth-like vendor guy in this thread? Is he going to have a booth this year? Stuff was pretty cool I still have the pill case I bought last year.
>>
>>9546988
i am. glad the case has held up, i think i remember you! this year, i am in the Artist Colony #127, with Gothic and Lolita Anonymous. both of us (GhastlyGear and Imaginary Tailoring) are gulls, and i met one of my assistants at last year's meetup.

i will have more Bad Manga Dialogue buttons for seagulls also, found some gems among my trash manga collection. stop by and look for the guy with the Babadook face and ouji/aristocrat clothes. will trade extra buttons for snacks or Twin Peaks jokes.
*to check out other /cgl/ crafters, check the hashtag #galagull on instagram
>>
>>9546976
Nothing chaps my ass more than having to wear my badge in a way that fucks up photos. I always take it off and manage to misplace it, at least if I can tie it on my belt (like you said) or on my bag, I know I won't lose it.

PAX East checking on the floor is ridiculous, but I'm sure people were sneaking friends inside (two people go in, one person leaves with both badges, goes back in with a third person. Rinse repeat... may be guilty of doing this at AB some years). I just hate having to show my badge at the bottom of the escalator, the top of the escalator, and then less than 100 feet away at the door to the dealer's hall. Shit dude, I know you saw me show it to that other person, knock it off.
>>
>>9547020
Nice, I might be in a Bender costume this year but I'm also only going Saturday so I might not (so I'm not getting stopped and can do more things like use my hands). It really depends on how I'm feeling day of.

Either way I'll be sure to check out your setup
>>
>>9545331
>Sara Lynn
Noice. Planning Kiki and Asuka, maybe Juliet Starling if I don't pussy out on that one. >>9547020
Are you the ouji with pins from Anime Boston? I stopped by your booth while you were gone at AB, got a pin from your fill-in. Bless.
>>
Speaking of vendors, is there a list of dealers/artists this year?
>>
Anyone got a link to the panel schedule?
>>
>>9547618
>>9547705
I'm pretty sure all of that is posted on the website already.
>>
>>9548356
There is a map of the dealers' room, but it's currently empty
>>
>>9548433
>>9547705
Panels are up on the Gather Events app, which is way more organized than the CTCon site anyway.
>>
>>9548444
Thanks for the heads up.

So are you guys cool with a 7PM meet up Saturday night at the Marriott bar followed by whatever comes next?
>>
>>9548680
7 seems kinda early, but also doable if that's when most people are cool with being there at that time
>>
>>9548890
I think it's going to be harder to actually get into the Marriott bar as it gets later. So based off of that, I think 7 is an alright time.
>>
>>9547602
>Are you the ouji with pins from Anime Boston?
no, i have not tabled at AB - perhaps a doppleganger used my same idea!

>>9547618
there are artists who are still unsure what their table # is, and recently Daigle sent an email saying he had no idea how to update the website map. if it cannot be found via Growtix or Gather it may remain un-done for this year.

>>9548680
the EGL-gulls might be at the swap meet at that time, but i will double check whether the meet is Saturday or Friday.
>>
>>9549067
Very true, Saturday at 7 it is
>>
>>9549366
>recently Daigle sent an email saying he had no idea how to update the website map

jfc, this year is really something else with the staff not knowing what the fuck is going on. It's always been bad, but this is a whole other level.
>>
>>9548680
Sounds good to me
How expensive are the drinks there? Leading up to this weekend I'm gonna be short $6,000
>>
>>9549599
Daigle not being able to fill in a map sounds like an old-man-on-the-internet problem

>>9549604
Also this is me--tripping it for recognizability and head count purposes.
>>
>>9549604
I think I remember last year the drinks (for mix cocktails) were about $12 each. About normal bar price.

They also had con special drinks that were a bit cheaper. I was already piss drunk when I came to the meetup, so I don't recall how much those were.
>>
>>9549623
Not to sound rude but that's not how a tripcodd works.
>>
>>9549687
I don't know how a tripcode is supposed to work, but it seems like people use them just 'cause on other boards. I'm guessing you're supposed to verify yourself or whatever, but for a meetup I think it's reasonable to put a name out there so I don't have to be like "hey I'm the guy that said this this and this on 4chan" in public
>>
>>9549366
..maybe it was Anime Next, not AB?
>>
Hey, I'm a fucking retard. I bought my ticket online, do I have to pick up my ticket tomorrow or can I just show them a screen cap of the QR code they emailed me?
>>
>>9549713
It's different on every board.

Here nobody uses it except Hungarian LARPfag and we like it this way. Only bother with a trip if you MUST id yourself like if you are claiming to be a con chair or something
>>
>>9549713
Literally just say what you're cosplaying. You'll be that when people meet up
>>
>>9549914
Different anon, I bought my bf's pass and he never got an email for it. I did get an email saying that I bought it. My dad bought my pass and I got a confirmation for that so I don't know what's going on. Should I/he just email the con and ask?
>>
>>9550011
Aight, I only go on this board 2-3 times a year so good to know

>>9550013
Probably not going to cosplay for ctcon this year the more I think about it. Only going 1 day and don't have a new cosplay lined up anyways since I didn't know if I'd be attending until like 4 days ago
>>

why the fuck do they keep shrinking the food court? one of the queues for ordering is now in the dealer's room. this looks wonk as fuck. how do they expect anyone to eat without invading precious tabletop gaming space?
>>
>>9550370
Just sit in the gaming space if there's no room. It's not like staff actually does anything.
But really, the food trucks are open 11-8 today-Saturday, and they're way better than the garbage con center food.
>>
>>9549713
What I should have said more specifically is that you're namefagging and not using a tripcode. Without a code it's possible for other people to imitate you by using your name. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing to do it but there's just a danger of attracting trolls.
>>
Anyone going to prereg today?
>>
>>9550596
Got out of work pretty late but we are here and in our room. Relaxing for a bit, waiting tomorrow to party.
>>
>>9550596
Yeah, badge pickup tonight was the smoothest I've ever seen it. In and out in less than 5 minutes. So CTCon got one thing right at least.
>>
Turns out I might be going to the con tomorrow as well
>when your friends convince you to take a day off work for a big event and everyone cancels last minute

What's some hot stuff going on tomorrow?
>>
Badge pickup took literally a minute. Honestly impressed with how fast it was for us, but I'm still wary about how the rest of events are going to be handled.

Also why is there a 21+ Death Match?? They also keep pushing the Masq earlier and earlier, so now it's stuck invading a bunch of other events. Not that the masq is offering much anymore, I remember when it used to be good like 9 years ago.

They're doing a 21+ version so they can sell 6$ cups of bud lite they help pay for the guest voice actors.

Yeah, we don't see any of that money. That's all the local bars capitalizing on the fact we can't hold a rave anymore.

Do they typically sell weekend passes at the door, or just single day passes? If not I'll probably only go tomorrow.
Otherwise might show up today since I got time and panels don't start til noon

>21+ version of the deathmatch

>>
How come there were so few panels this year? Seems to me the schedule was jam packed with multiple ones in every time slot. Now it's one or two in each slot if that, and a photoshoot or autograph session.
It almost felt like a waste of time going.
>>
>>9554783
That was a common thought from the occasional mumblings I heard from others
It also felt like there were less people this year but that could be because of the closeness in timing of other conventions
This year might be my last but I told myself last year was and I still showed up this year so...who knows

ConnectiCon 2017: Where they will kick you out without telling you the reason why.
>>
Sorry i missed you guys, i was in the Marriott Bar a lot this weekend. Met a lot of new ppl, none of the bartenders could understand me. its tough being outside of Boston and ordering a "Harpoon Cider" in a loud bar lol. im sure someone saw or heard me anyways, Boston vampires are rare
>>
>>9554920
Someone's salty
Let's talk about it...

>>9554959
It's alright anon. You missed Daigle hating Fakku, military(?) personnel going hard, and impressive cosplay achievements.
And someone pointed out that Teen Titans Go has fetish-themed episodes. The more you know
>>
>>9554994
Wasn't me personally. One of the guys helping out at a booth was kicked out yesterday with some BS from staff that he had been previously been "banned for 10 years from the convention center." Then, today, staff saw a friend of his who was wearing a shirt that said E1 (which is a very vague reference to the guy who got kicked out, a joke that he is "The Entitled One") and he was told he had to turn it inside-out (as if any congoer would actually know what it was referring to?) It's ridiculous petty bullshit on the part of staff, presumably because he had been vocal about criticism of the con in the past. #ConnectiScam on facebook has the full story.
>>
ConnectiCon was actually pretty fun and chill this year.
Dealers room/AA was kind of weak but I got to actually meet one of my favorite artists, so that's neat-o.

Thank you based Eek for the Zef pin.

If anyone took lolipops from a Kiki today, thank u. I bulk bought 3lbs without thinking about how much 3 pounds of lolipops really is.

How was everyone else's con?
>>
>>9555036

Sounds super exaggerated lmao. I heard that dude helping out was actually harassing someone, don't understand why people are surprised he got banned or whatever. And his posts have a lot of gross comments on women too. Seems like a real cool dude. The circle of people who have been shitting all over the con and actively making it worse by trying to blow things out of proportion? Yea don't know why any of them are surprised they are getting shit for it.
Nobody likes Dongle but ffs nobody's gonna like you fucks for trying to tear down and make something worse. The con wasn't even that bad this year, it is what you make it.
>>
I thought the con was actually pretty well put together sans the absolute lack of decent panels, didn't cosplay this year but it was still a good time. To the sub zero cosplayer who's 10-or-so year old son played me in guilty gear for like 20 minutes I'm the oldest brother of 4 and I hope he had fun.
>>
>>9555254
>The con wasn't even that bad this year
"Not that bad" =/= good, though. And if it's not good, I'm not going to bother.
>>
>>9555158
>>9555300
I had a better time than last year but the panels definitely were lackluster.
I'm chalking up the better experience to just having more friends that came this year, although I think the con layout was better too.

Definitely felt like there were less people this year, but of course that makes sense given last year's performance.

I wonder if the vendor prices are up'd to help pay for a spot or something (I know some cons make guests charge for autographs to help pay for their appearance) because holy shit some of the price tags were bonkers. Saw some resin casts that were the literal same things I bought at the ren faire last year being sold for over twice as much.
>>
I mostly spent this con walking around. Didn't go to any panels which was a first for ctcon. Nothing really caught my eye. Didn't really take any pictures either. I just mostly hung out with friends. I found the con itself to be really boring. Half of the schedule seemed to just be autographs or photoshoots, both of which I don't care about.

I got added to that ConnctiScam group. They bring up good points, but I feel like most of it is personal drama or extremely petty shit like, "It rained on Friday. It was hot and humid, in Connecticut, in July, fuck Daigle. How dare he not be able to control the weather." I don't care about people's personal vendettas.
>>
>>9556066
I have little respect or empathy for the people in the ConnectiScam group.
All they do is complain.
They're part of the problem.

As it stands, they just act as a deterrent for groups thinking about getting involved with the convention.
A much more helpful thing would be to discuss solutions to the problems and present them to board members as opposed to hiding away in their little circlejerk and trying to spite Daigle.

They're just trying to take out the trash without separating the recyclables first.
>>
>>9556090
People have been bringing up the same issues to staff for YEARS and literally nothing gets changed about it. The staff don't listen.
>>
>>9556172
>bringing up issues
I said they need to bring up solutions if they want anything to get done. That's not how it ought to be--staff should be coming up with the solutions to the issues themselves, but that's not going to happen, so it's on us.

I've done my bit of trying to offer solutions, but I'm just one guy, and I don't want to keep pushing it on them for fear of getting banned if I'm too persistent...ironically...
If hundreds of people bombarded them with emails and shit they would have to listen. It's just way too easy to mute a group on facebook.
>>
>>9556198
People do bring up solutions. For example, last year, people complained about the karaoke being too loud out in the open. People suggested it be moved to a room. What did they do? The same exact thing this year.
>>
>>9556200
I'm not gonna dispute it any further because the point you're making is valid. If they responded with a reason why they didn't move karaoke (and I can think of a few) then I'd side with them, but they didn't. They have no sense of communication ethics.

Still, complaining in private will get you nowhere but angrier. ConnectiScam is literally just a hate group. Help me send emails to Daigle & Co. with kindly-worded suggestions. Also consider what aspects may be controlled by the CCC as opposed to CTCon.

To start maybe tell everyone to email polite reccommendation that they offer a pass-by-mail option at checkout.
(I'd even be okay with paying an extra buck or 2 to have it shipped to me so I don't need to show up on Thursday or wait in a long-ass line)
If 200+ people sent one of the heads a copy of some humbly-worded suggestion, I bet they'd at the very least reply to it.
>>
>>9556251
Go right ahead, and I hope it works for you, because I used to really enjoy CTCon, and it would be great for it to get to that point again. I've decided I'm going to move on to some other cons, though. It's been too many years of disappointment and spending money to be at a con that I don't enjoy any of the paid content for.
>>
>>9556090
I'd be more on their side if they weren't using a piece of petty drama as a reason to gather against Daigle. I don't care about this one guy and his shirts.
>>
>>9556422
>>9556422

Yeah. I read his post and he sounded a bit egotistical as if there is some war going on against him and acted like anything that went down with him and his buddies affected the con on a massive scale. Went to his fb page and just saw a bunch of tits as his cover photo and people whining on his page about burning the con down and killing people like Doogle. So edgy. I would be happy to not see them come back, if it meant they'd stop their dramatics.
>>
Enough hate, let's see some nice photos. I'll contribute once I'm home.
>>
>>9556597
Almost all my photos/videos ended up being of riverfest stuff (like the fireworks) and people going ham on the rhythm games...oops
I can still upload when I'm home but who really wants to see some guy ace a 9 difficulty song on Jubeat?
>>
>>9556446

>>
>>9556708

But as a man of taste, I must agree that the tits on his cover photo are of the degenerate kind. Oppai or bust
>>
I was actually a vendor in the artist colony. I wasn't able to walk around much but I agree with the sentiment that there wasn't really much in terms of interesting content. The only thing I bought was a blu-ray copy of Castle of Cagliostro for my friend's b-day.

Speaking of vendors, several of the big-name/recurring dealers did not make much profit, some even netting a loss. attendees were much more generous to the smaller dealers/artists this year. While my table did pretty well (making more than double the cost of the booth), talking to several of the dealers showed that things were pretty crappy behind the scenes. I would not be suprised if they choose a smaller venue next year.
>>
>>9556995
Gee, how expensive are the spots if some vendors couldn't even turn a profit?
>>
>>9557257
My artist table was around the 320 area, so upward of that. Most dealer booths are 2 tables and bigger so I would say the price is north of 600. Otaku Joes did pretty well I believe, as did camp anime, the other ones not so much.

With that in mind im even more grateful to do as well I did, its a very reassuring feeling.
>>
>>9557275
On a tangent, why are there always 4 plus weafood vendors? It'd be one thing if they all had different food but they all just sell the memest of foods. Let's get some variety
>>
>>9557297
CampAnime is always there selling food, and there's usually at least a few other vendors that carry it but on a smaller scale. It must still sell decently, I guess. Ramune still holds its novelty to con newbies.
>>
>>9557297
I honestly can't say, but as >>9557299 pointed out, Ramune/pocky are the go-to for con newbies and younger kids.

speaking of camp anime, I was vendoring right across the aisle from them. The person who ran their booth was really nice! She gave me free snacks, and sold me stuff at a discounted price.
I'm a fucking sucker for the shrimp chips.
>>
>>9557299
>>9557302
If I was a weafood vendor i'd just get myself some japanese vending machines with all that weird shit that no one's heard of, along with some of the standards, and just set then up instead of a table. Charge a buck and a half a piece. I bet I'd make bank
>>
>>9557307
it costs extra to use electricity, and with the fact that the convention hall is on the 3rd floor and it'd be a bitch to move in and out, it hardly seems worth it.

Then again, they did have the japanese UFO claw games set up on the far wall, right next to Retro Games Plus' booth, so anythings possible I guess.
>>
>>9557312
Hmmm...i'm looking too much into this already.
Do vendors get free badges? Like if there's multiple people that can tend the booth can we take shifts while one walks around the con or are we supposed to vend the whole time?

And what about panelists? What's their deal with badges? Maybe I should do a food culture panel
>>
>>9556995
I was also an artist colony vendor, first year, I made good money.
We were slow fri sat, but Sunday was good enough to make up for it
>>
>>9557343
Friday was real slow for us too, Saturday was our best day, with Sunday a close second.
Which booth were you guys?
>>
>>9557333
I can't speak for the dealers, but Artist colony tables come with 2 exhibitor badges, that can get you into the con and all events for the entire weekend. Extra exhibitor badges cost $80.
>>
>>9557377
That doesn't sound like a bad deal for a convention. For anyone that was selling art how was the anime/western media ratio, did one do better than the other?
>>
>>9557534
It was honestly about 1-1. I was selling prints based on overwatch and nintendo, and I was selling pins based on nintendo, persona, Samurai Jack, and Overwatch (I was one of two booths that had a Doomfist pin at the convention). The person I was sharing my booth with was selling Overwatch and My Hero Academia pins and prints (after taking out the cost of the table we made a combined profit of about 500$) the people next to our left were doing comissions and had small prints for sale of various media (they managed to pay off the table last minute, with $18 profit), the people to our right were just selling commissions (i dunno how well they did). My friend's booth who was set up 2 booths to the right of channel awesome/nostalgia critic made slightly under a grand selling video game prints/pins/keychains (Zelda and SU were big ones.)

I've done conventions before, but this was my first year at ctcon, so I did my research. Ctcon is more based on video games and anime/manga, so you want to cater to those audiences, which we did. Now if I get a booth at, lets say, Magfest, which is a con based on video game and video game music, i would not focus any effort on making art for anime/manga.
>>
>>9556995
I saw a preview map for next year, Daigle's gonna try and squeeze about 50 more tables into dealers hall and about 20 more artists into the colony.

As if it wasn't a cluster moving around in there as it is.

>>9557299
They had four different tables spread around, which was a bit much... but my roomies bought a bunch and I nibbled a bit.
>>
>>9557793
Can you post a picture? I can't find it on the website.

It looks like you can register now for your ticket, but dealer/artist registration isn't up yet.
>>
>>9557793
Source? I don't see why they would need extra tables, they already have quite a bit by the bathroom in the dealer's room that are always empty already.
>>
>>9557800
>>9557812
I don't have it, but a neighboring booth had a copy and let me take a look. Another vendor might have one, it was a proposed floor map for next year.
>>
>>9558035
Ah. it sounds kind of rediculous, but honestly who knows how it will turn out.

I'm looking into getting a table at anime boston and some other places in new england. I'm definitely going to try to get into ctcon again since it was so good to me.
>>
>>9557793
Probably needs the extra cash. Selling small spaces is proportionally more expensive I'm guessing

>>
>>9559621
Don't add him. He's a toxic, drama-filled person and I can't imagine any good coming of a friendship with him.
Things he's been accused of:
-Rape
-Grooming young girls so that they feel pressured to be in a relationship with him
-outing a "friend's" eating disorder publicly
-choking girls (in a sexual manner) much younger than him
-not respecting boundaries during photoshoots, going really far over the line with nasty/inappropriate comments
-listening to everything his psycho wife(girlfriend?) says and verbally attacking people for her

So please do yourself a favor and stay away, he doesn't need more people to screw over.

I was preyed on by this guy, his scope isn't just limited to minors sadly. He goes for anyone he thinks is vulnerable; I had just been diagnosed with PTSD shortly before he started trying to hang around.
He gets really pushy really quickly, wanted to do a photo shoot which turned into him trying to turn it into a date, and wouldn't let me bring friends along which should have been a red flag (I did make his out-of-shape ass go on a giant hike for his troubles). He is a self-proclaimed sociopath and brags about how he emotionally abused past girls so much that he can do whatever he wants to them and they'd take him back in an instant.
I'm lucky I had enough gall to see he was trying to groom me (he would try to send me presents unprovoked, would always talk about wanting a "third" in his relationship, etc). I tried to keep my distance and eventually blocked him.
He kept stalking the social media accounts I didn't block (didn't think I needed to) and eventually reared his ugly head on my instagram literally months after I cut him out of my life.

I never was actually hurt by the dude, but that's really only because I got lucky. 0/10 would not recommend.
>>
>>9560142
Sometimes I think it's a shame that most nerds and weebs are generally nice or otherwise law-abiding people. If this Joe guy was in a bolder community like motorheads or something, some of those people would have no problem beating the shit out of him if someone said he was harassing them.

I guess that's part of his strategy: being in a passive community with people that don't have as much social expertise. It wrinkles my skin and I wish I could do something about it.
>>
>>9559621
nooope
>>
>>9560315
I feel that feel too. This community unfortunately attracts scum like that because they know they'd be rejected elsewhere. It's like my (sexually abusive) ex is still floating around somewhere in the community.
With age, I've come to realize why a Death Note may be appealing.
>>
>>9560315
The community also attracts a lot of younger more impressionable people who are often overwhelmed by how "accepting" and "friendly" the community is and let their guard down, making it a great feeding ground for wanna-be rapists.
>>
>>9559283
This guy looks like such a freak. Why do people even talk to him?
>>
>>9560142
Totally feeling creeped out now. He tried messaging me trying to ask me for information on someone else... Trying my best not to freak out and feel wrong.
>>
I was an A/V guy at the con this year. Did all the panels you went to work out ok, in terms of tech?
>>
>>9560842
>implying people went to panels

I only went to one, where they only needed mics, so it was fine. It was set up weird, though, with the table off on one side rather than in the center, but I'm sure that's not your department.
>>
>>9560842
I didn't go to a ton of panels, but none of the ones I went to had tech problems, whereas in previous years there were a few I encountered. So it's a thumbs up from me.

If you have any influence in A/V decisions I'd recommend that the convention invests in a couple 16:9 aspect ratio projectors. Some panelists fiddle around with digital design or otherwise use tablets, and the 4:3 aspect ratio makes it very weird to look at. It's not a very big qualm, but it would only cost a couple hundred bucks to get one or two for one or two rooms. I don't even know if that's a CTCon thing or a CCC thing...but figured i'd drop it here in case you can do anything about it.
>>
>>9558880
It's even worse than that, the company that the con overnighted them from didn't ship so someone had to drive to Buffalo to pick them up.
>>
>>9560859
Yea we really need to do that. Sadly it's a money thing. 16:9 costs more than the deal we already own and non tech people don't give a fuck as long as we can by an adaptor and have you deal with it.
Any one got any input on main or special events? I walked in their for a bit it sounded like shit was that accurate of the whole weekend?
>>
>>9560959
I didn't notice anything wrong with sound in the events I attended, but I didn't go to the deathmatch which was probably the biggest one
>>

So are you just generic connecticon staff with 0 meaningful input, or are you actually involved in the process?
I've been trying to get involved with the process for years now as more than just a generic walk-around volunteer, but every time I search, there's absolutely nothing about getting involved with the management process.

Like it's part of my real job to manage schedules and maximize profits, and i'd be happy to offer consultation for free if it means a better convention, but I have zero leads other than one person i talked to who got on the inside just by knowing Daigle personally.

Do I have to suck it up and volunteer as a generic and just kind of smooth talk my way into a higher position or what's the deal (if you even know)

Tell whoever he wanted info on to block him, and block him yourself. Maybe if we all shun him, he'll go away.

Was browsing my old CTCon folders

Throwback to 2013, probably my favorite year in terms of strictly community & fun. They didn't go overboard on the security, they didn't get on peoples' asses about sitting on the window sills and such, it was open late, there were those giant wood floors that people sparred on and played giant games of ninja on.

I also got some from a girl I liked at the time...so I may be biased

I lowered the bitrate on them to make them uploadable here so excuse that

Can anyone explain all the Overwatch ban bitching? I keep seeing it referenced but I have no idea what happened.
Also is it true that accessible entrances were locked? I didn't need them this year, but that could be a major thing in my decision to go next.

I have some input. Sadly the only thing Matt understands is money. When it comes to A/V expertise in the con scene I'm one of the more experience guys so my name has weight. If I'm being blunt the best bet would be to try and get on Ctcon staff proper. In a department that sounds CLose to what you want to do then get a hold of Matt through that. Volunteering is for chumps.

Connectiscam didn't contact blizzard before the con so when everyone tried to get in their ips got blacklisted. And yea the accessible entrances were locked

>giant wooden floors
fuck yeah. My friend and I had sock em boppers and we brawled like madmen with them. Then we gave them to Nerdfit as a present.

God those were so much fun. I wish we had a bigger convention center in this state to fit stuff like that in. Of course if we keep having such shitty panels we could just dedicate a room to fun shit. But that would never happen.

Imagine putting this much time and energy into this. Come and spend your money on "fuck ctcon" shirts

OT, what did everyone think of the cosplay this year? I was overwhelmed by Voltron, unsurprisingly...
>>
>>9564411
There was a lower cosplay/person ratio this year I thought, although CTcon has a high ratio to begin with so it was still good.

In general i saw a lot of really quality cosplays. There were definitely some big crowdpleasers like Mr. Poopybutthole

Me. Poopybutthole was excellent. There was also House Frey, which was PERFECT. My boyfriend and I were in awe. And also mad because it will always be too soon. Also who's Voltron?>>9564411

I mean, if they all wear matching tshirts we can at least spot the undesirables from afar. This guy seriously needs to get a life.
>>

Quality, as always. Not as much, but some damn good shit. I really loved the amount of detailed original designs, like
the Mario Cart warriors (lol). I got a look at the girl who won best in show for her craftsmanship this year up close, so much detail work it was insane. No idea what she was from though lol

There were some solid and often times hilarious constumes.

I was psyched to see a Yonji from One Piece, and though the Jorgen and Tooth Fairy pair were cute.

There were some solid ones.

At my booth in the artist alley, my friend who was sharing the table with me was dressed as Gabe Reyes (Reaper) on Friday and Genji on Saturday. On Friday we had an ever-growing cast of great Overwatch cosplayers resting behind the table (some were her friends, others complete strangers). It was pretty rad.

Friday and Saturday there was a really rad team skull member who came buy every couple of hours and chatted for a while. The company was greatly appreciated.
