Her underskirt doesn't line up with her dress (which almost makes me feel she's not having a petti and uses her fat as poof...), her eyebrows look like rectangles (make-up should not make it look rectangle), and a choker doesn't flatter you if you have more weight. I also think the little bows and the big bow is overdone, and her hair looks like it has a lot of dead ends (but that might be picture quality).

That sort of 'dolly goth' fashion, aka kinderwhore, has been around since the 80s but has had many different names for basically the same aesthetic since then. It's actually in part what inspired mana to create egl fashion in the first place, just look at proto-lolita coords from the 90s and early streetsnaps of gothic lolitas, the elements are all the same. I'm not an expert. I think 'ero-lolita' is just wearing the clothing in a more revealing way without looking trashy. You might see dresses worn without blouses often with wrist cuffs or chokers to balance it out. The socks/tights might be swapped out for a pair of fishnet or sheer stockings. The heels could be particularly high. There is occasionally corsets or petticoats worn as outerwear. The skirt may purposefully be worn shorter then usual. It's still very elaborate. I think any style could be worn in an 'ero' manner.

Bit of both? Getting to know the fashion means you get to know the ins and outs of what's good and what's bad. So having it pointed out might make you see it, but seeing it on your own will take time?

The materials used for the dress are really poor quality, mostly. The lace in particular is odd, because it looks like there's at least two different kinds used (bodice appears to be raschel, hem above the ruffle is maybe torchon/cluny). The fabric used isn't the worst thing ever, but you can see that either she didn't iron it fully, or it gets crumpled easily (common problem with too-thin cottons)

It's also not very well fitted (too short, straining at the bodice where she pulled the corset lacing too tight), the tailored details are poorly done (the floppy bow on her waist in particular), and the actual outfit isn't all that balanced or thought-out. The gloves are the wrong style for a lolita outfit and don't really fit in, and the tights were likely picked because they offset the skirt's shortness, but they're not very well suited to the rest of the outfit, and while the colours of the headbow match, inverting the black and white balance for one accessory is a jarring thing to do.

It's not the biggest eyesore on the planet, but it's just not a very good outfit. I'd say it's closer to a nitpick than the other outfit, because you could potentially disguise some of the quality issues of the dress with a cardigan. Add some white or black socks and maybe a cotton underskirt or long bloomers to disguise the length, and she'd be good.

To start off, Lolita is based in rococo and Victorian, so things were lavish and fine. Well-made clothing was a huge part of those time periods, as well as always being neat, with your petticoats on and your hair styled (or a wig, you should see some of the rococo examples of horrific lice though). If you were of any class at all, you had well-made things. I can assure you, for some of the things these itas have bought, they could have had very nice taobao or second hand burando.
If something is badly made, it shows, and it makes even the cutest wearer look bad. In the case of that photo, her dress and headbow are poorly made with lower quality lace. She's wearing very sheer white tights with some kind of pattern, and sheer tights are normally a no-no. The see-through black gloves just look bad. She would've been better off without wristwear than with those. Her shoes are alright. Her hair is also unstyled. Hair is actually a very important part of a coord.
Honestly, it really does just take learning. You eventually find things more quickly, like bad lace on dresses, mismatched colors, etc. Everyone makes mistakes, even the people here. No one in lolita can look back on their older outfits and not find something that they would change, even if they claim they wouldn't.
