End dump. I follow a kimono seller on Facebook who posts inspiration pics like this about once a week. I don't know any of the sources myself since I just browsed her page for these, but if anyone wants to know I can message her and I'm sure we can figure it out.
I want to see a proper Marimekko yukata project. Their current stable of patterns doesn't work, because the print objects are too large and the negative space is too stark (as this awkward Finnair Marimekko yukata project shows). But it would work so well if you just rescaled the patterns.

Phew that lace is amazing.
I just bought a new Sweet Angel yukata set to wear to a couple fireworks festivals. Pretty excited as it's really cute.
>>9515142
ugh the print looks something you would use in a table cloth. The woman in front on the right is my favourite, but still needs some work.
Are these meant to be worn outside? Because they look more like bathrobes to me, which makes me sad since I would totally be into yukatas and kimonos taking of in Finland.

Not really sure about this model but I'm in love with waon kimono prints. Dumping few.

They're salvageable if they just used a proper obi.
>>9515311
Yeah, they look like they forgot their obis home.
wanted to say thank you to these threads!
I draw stuff and the kimono posted here have never failed to provide a lot of inspo
Does anyone have pictures of mostly red or red accented kimonos?
It's kinda of ironic that this place feels safer to post and appreciate kimono than Tumblr. Tumblr has become so hostile that this is a "safe space" lol
This is very disrespectful ... it's cultural appropriation
>>9516166
Cultural appropriation doesn't exist. It's just ironically uncultured and sheltered, bitchy little children making tumblr textposts trying to sound informed. Culture has always spread and influenced other cultures or it dies.

I've got quite a few! Beginning dump
>>9516262
When you say red accented, do you mean anything with a decent amount of red? Or are kimonos with the red standing out compared to the rest of it okay too?

do we have any actual shop links outside of rakuten?
>>9516360
I've got this shop link. Never used it, though: https://www.net-shinei.co.jp/com/index.php

I absolutely adore this.
Anyone here ever made their own kimono? Can I ask you something?
>>9516360
Some really pretty ones are on Etsy through different sellers
>>9518142
I learned how to make them recently and already made two (turned out ok). What do you want to know?
>>9518209
Hi, anon.
Concerning the neck opening, the John Marshall book says to cut into the back panel a distance of NeckCircumference / 4.
But elsewhere it is said that the neck opening doesn't cut into the back at all and instead the shoulder line is the back of the neck.
Which is correct?
>>9516360
Ichiroya and Sou are usually recommended from what I've seen
as always, shoutout to the best Western resource - Immortal Geisha, whose forum has recently gone up again. there's also a facebook group, but the forum/wiki are the true treasure troves
>>9518228
Immortal Geisha is the place I point to for beginners. They have so much useful information.
Also ebay has kimonos for pretty cheap too. I usually trawl through Yahoo Japan since fancier prints are a lot cheaper there.
>tfw houmongi you wanted went for $600
>>9518221
I think it depends on the kind of the kimono you're making. I made mine with the shoulder line as the back of the neck, which makes the kimono stay in the correct position easily.
I suggest you buy a cheap one out of ebay just to take it apart and see how it's made. They're really simple!
>>9516282
It is. I'm pretty sure it's AP
>>9518411
It just weird to me, you know. Because my neck circumference is 40cm, so I'm supposed to cut the neck 10cm toward the back, and that's a huge amount.
And in a lot of photo I've seen the back of the neck is indeed the shoulder line, or it is cut as only a very shallow curve toward the back.
And supposedly John Marshall is quite an authority on Japanese clothes?
Newbie here, I want to star wearing kimono, where can I buy one?
>>9519080
Don't worry about that: the collar will go through the shoulder line towards the bottom of your chest, so it will fit your size if you take the measurements right. Remember that each panel should be half of the distance between the middle of your neck and the tip of your fingers, if you stretch your arm.
I don't know about John Marshall, I actually learned in a workshop with a local that collects kimono. If you see them in your hand it will make much more sense than to follow tutorials, because the way they're made is just so different than western clothes.
