Anyone know if the Westin will let you check in your bags until a room is ready? This is my first time reserving a room under my name and since my friends and I are local (Orange County) we're probably going to come in well before the 3PM check in time on July 1st. I was hoping to leave our bags there, get our badges and look around a bit before coming back in the afternoon.

I know AX has a bag check, but it's like $15.

Ask them to store your luggage until you are able to check-in is a widely known courtesy at the front desk - just so they confirm you are a hotel guest...don't leave any valuables, lock it, ask for a receipt. and its free.

bring lots of water, wear comfy shoes, if you want to go to panels, go early, and bring lots of money

sunscreen if you're going to be outside (lines)
maybe one of those stools if you plan to be in lines (or sit on the floor)
you seriously need to team up with other people if you don't want to go completely crazy in the lines
if you bring snacks in hide that shit on your person because the door people will be a bitch to you about it if it's in your bag
don't get in the goodsmile line or you'll be there forever
events hall B, gaming, and petree are on the opposite side of the convention center to the exhibit hall/autograph/artist alley
if a panel is in petree or hall B they expect it to be crowded as fuck
AA is a deathtrap in the front of it and slightly less of a deathtrap in the back. don't go on the first day because it'll be packed.
if going to the concerts get your ticket early because it can take a while. don't wait til the last day. if it's almost the concert they might relocate from the LACC to outside staples
food trucks are probably your best bet for food nearby. almost everything else is a sit down. there's nowhere fast to eat minus the foodtrucks and dirty dogs. hooters has takeout though.

lines depends on what it is but for the big names it can be hours of a wait. longer than the actual panel.
goodsmile = gsc = big figure company. lines are always long af. people rush there when the exhibit hall opens
i don't really know much about gaming because i never go there during AX
foodtrucks might be a little higher than that range because LA and because they have to pay a cut for the privilege of being nearby

food at night you're pretty boned without transportation (could always uber) but there's a dennys near the hotels that's always open

AX first timer here. I've seen the photos of how crowded the con gets, but are there people who walk around in large costumes? I was thinking of bringing a gown...think Red Queen from Alice madness returns. The hoop in it is flexible so I can make it slightly thinner in tight places but I'm still wondering if anyone who's been to AX thinks it's manageable.

I can't decide if I want to go to the anisong concert or not. 4 hours is a long ass time and the schedule hasn't FUCKING been released.

You'll want something you won't get hot in. The worst places are the exhibition hall and main floor. Lots of squeezing by people.
Anything with an underwire isn't advisable in my opinion.

He missed the first concert and the guy's always working so he can never buy them himself. He's not 100% sure if he can go, but I said I'd just give someone the ticket if he couldn't go (like for free at the con or something or to one of my friends).

I know bag checkers are sometimes stingy and have gotten stingier every year, but that's an all time low.

But i've always gotten away with sneaking in shit by opening my pack a bit before I even get to them, they usually just glanced inside for me when I prepared for them

Also, line the bottom of your pack with towels and keep food beneath it, or wrap the towel around it in a way to look like folded laundry esp. if cosplaying, cause they just assume its for your sweat. That being said, of course you wont get away with it if 1/2 the volume is under that towel, gotta keep the illusion.

I've gotten away with tote bags with the removable plastic sheet on the bottom and hiding sandwiches under that. but then it becomes a balancing act for when you put it down. Inside are misc. items such as the AX catalog/map.

the reason why they were allowing refunds is that when the initial rush happened and all the orchestra seats were allocated people were taking the loge seats thinking that was all that was available. once the orchestra seats timed out and became free again people saw those, bought the better seats, and then asked for a refund on the loge seats

You can. However, you need to the upgraded seat bought first. Send them a polite email. They'll reply back asking for information of both tickets. Then they ask site for a refund. Next day you get the money back. It took a long time to get a reply after sending the ticket info though.

I have extra VIP and floor tickets for the July 3 AKFG concert since I bought a bunch just in case friends couldn't buy and I didn't want them to buy from scalpers.

Selling for face value, because I absolutely loathe the principle of scalping. I have a lot of seats next to each other, so you can email this throwaway if you want! Here's hoping i get rid of all my extras.

I'm 31 and I don't feel aged out yet. The thing is, you're not the only anime fan getting older. You can see that because each year AX adds a new 21+ event.

Last year they debuted Night Cafe which was basically a cosplay stripper bar. If you get a chance, you should go, if only to see the pole dancer they brought from Japan. She's coming again this year. I don't aesthetically appreciate pole dancing usually, but man she could shimmy all the way up that 15 ft pole like it was nothing. It was amazing. The other "dancers" were just cosplayers of average body type who shook their asses around the room while slowly removing all clothes down to panties and pasties. Not really that entertaining. But the pole dancer was great.

This year they have 21+ versions of the Butler cafe and Maid cafe. Some of the dances now are also 21+, and they have the Lounge which serves alcoholic drinks with a bar-like atmosphere.

My point is, AX knows that anime fans are an aging population. Those who watched Toonami in the 90s are now nearing or already in our 30s. AX has to make itself seem like a welcoming place for adults and not just teens/college students. And I think they are doing a good job for the most part.
