How is the competition on mbok auctions?
I feel like mbok rarely ever has something noteworthy and is mostly overpriced, but if there is a good desl, how likely are you able to get it?
>>
>>9503123
Not too bad from my experience. My SS has gotten into a bid war once, other times I managed getting every piece I wanted very easily. I usually don't buy AP, Baby or any coveted pieces on mbok though.
>>

Which SS do you use? Sounds like you are doing well with them.
>>

I haven't bought from mbok in a while but when I did I used Japonica.

Has anyone tried to buy japanese secondhand (especially fril and mercari) without an SS? I'm thinking about learning japanese, using tenso and buying all those sweet dresses my shopping servies are always too late for.

It's very easy if the site can accept foreign credit cards. Tenso is pretty nice.

>>9503391
The problem is fril and mercari forbid any proxies or other non-japanese buyers, because of how it works.
You need to use proper keigo and the seller will obly get their money if you confirm the item arrived and is alright, tenso won't do that for you.
>>
>>9503687
Thank you, my battery was dying but now I did google it. I appreciate the references to the aprons very much!
>>

So the new lolibrary is up and it sucks. They made the search function worse. I personally don't care about a nice design, I wish they'd just fix the bugs and bring back the old layout. There was no need for all this design change imo.

I asked japonica to mark down the package as gift and they replied this:
>"Hi,

Thank you for your inquiry.
We have to declare the actual value for an insurance.
If you cancel an insurance contract, we can declare the low value.
but you have to take responsibility for all.

Please give permission to cancel the insurance contract.
and
>How much value should I declare on your package ? "
That means it's not possible to declare it as a gift? I'm french and i really want to avoid horrid customs with ems.
If i declare something like 40 euros for an OP and a bag, do i have any risk from the customs "not believing me"?
>>
>>9503852

That's usually a sort of ivory/offwhite/beige color.
>>
>>9503852
They can declare it as a gift but if it should get lost you cannot be refunded because they will only get back the value they stated on the package.

So for example if you tell them to declare a $300 dress as $40 and it gets lost, they (and therefore you) would only get an $40 refund from the post office.

Best Yahoo Auction finds? I need motivation to keep hunting.
>>
>>9503969
It became too popular and well known for really good finds. Part of me wishes lolita would be more sekrit-club-like again, so the competition would tone down a bit. Almost everything ends in a bidding war nowadays, even badly tagged things that are hard to find with regular search terms.
>>
>>9503638
>I thought cesky krumlov was an oddments only dress and that has photos

Cesky Krumlov had a normal release, it actually was quite popular but still a few dresses ended up in lucky packs if I remember correctly. Also, there is no such thing as oddment only dresses. Oddment packs are full of faulty dresses, sometimes also unpopular dresses, but most of the time they put those in the normal lucky packs.

I won! Oh my goodness I'm so excited even though I have no idea how I'll coord this thing.
>>
>>9504047
I think it's really easy to coord because it has black and ivory in it, standard colours for blouses. I wouldn't wear it with printed tights/socks or add many things since the print is already busy. A small pearl necklace if you have one (not ugly fake pearls).
>>
>>9504009
In that case she will still get hit by customs, the threshold for gifts is a bit higher than for regular purchases in most European countries (afaik) but still nowhere near the retail price of a brand dress.

In any case I wish the original anon good luck!
>>
>>9504060
Yeah, but it's a bit weird the response she got didn't state that they could or could not mark it as a gift. I normally get it marked as a gift and marked down both because it's just not realistic that I get so many parcels that are all 21 euro from Japan.

desu I think aliceholic format's quite shit, I was looking at it today now it's got a web version and I really wish it had a better way at marking which brand your items are from on the photo like wear.jp did. All you can do is tag brand (without saying which piece is what brand), and it honestly pisses me off browsing without knowing where someone got something if I like it. It's basically like instagram without normies allowed.

>>
>>9504410
I'm curious about what you would've said.
>>
>>9504410
It is a pretty good book.Have you even read it?
>>
>>9504410
Prose-wise, it's incredibly well done. The subject matter is nauseating but the main problem is that so many people are too goddamn clueless to realise that Humbert is supposed to be an unreliable narrator and a creep, not a hero. So they think the book is trying to justify his actions when if anything, it's the opposite. I can't say I dislike the book for existing but I do wish the fashion would have been named after something more pleasant.
>>
>>9504410
it is a literary masterpiece imo, the subject matter is just disturbing and it's supposed to disgust you and make you want to hide in a cave. it takes a lot of skill on the author's part to communicate H.H.'s mindset. had to take a lot of breaks while reading it. it's just bad because stupid tumblrina nymphets translate the book incorrectly and actually romanticize it.

but this isn't /lit/ so
>>
>>9504410
I don't know about being a masterpiece but it's not a bad book. There are people who still consider it a romance novel even though it's clearly not just because the prose itself is so pretty. Of course, anyone with half a brain cell knows it's anything but, but I think it shows Nabokov had skill.

Just because it causes unfortunate misconceptions for us when we wear this fashion doesn't mean it's not a good book, and it also doesn't mean girls who wear lolita aren't allowed to like it. I've seen people here talk shit about Misako because she listed it as her favorite book which is just the dumbest thing because it has nothing to do with anything and doesn't necessarily reflect poorly on the rest of her character.

I was recently shopping for some normie clothes. In one shop I saw a dress with a flower print which was sold with a petticoat. I'm not saying it was lolita and petti was as bad as it gets, but it got me thinking, why is lolita so strange to people? You can buy blouses with frills or made of lace in your local H&M, you can wear a dress with a petti on a normal day, but lolita is too much. Why is it?

I always imagine the worst case scenario when something takes too long to arrive/seller take a long time to reply/..
>what if it's lost?
>what if the seller is kill??!
>what if someone stole it?
>what if it arrived in the wrong place?
And I usually never really ask because i'm scared i'll look impatient and i don't want to rush anyone.
Anxiety is life ruining but when you're waiting for stuff that have to go through the whole SS process from so far away it's nerve wrecking.
Praying for the safety of my Baby bolero. Pls come to me soon.

>>
>>9504047
I have that in blue and love it. I used to put a sailor bolero with it (cropped cut, also from AP) or a very plain blouse from Meta.

Like a lot of anons said, it's a pretty good book. It's quite dark and not romance. It's made an impact to have so much influence. Lo's outfits in the newer film definitely inspired a lot of Larme outfits. I think lolitas are a bit too harsh on it and need to remember Lolita is just a feminine name and we have no direct connection to the book.

Closet Child, in general. If we're only talking between those two. If you're looking for other options, though, there's a bunch.

Shops I've used before:
Tokyo Alice (they have their own webshop, but also sell through rakuten)
Grand Bazaar

Last time I used one was Japonica, I think? I used to prefer private services (eg: Mai, Mukunoki), but the last one I used shut down ages ago. Sorry.

So I've been wanting to get some tea party shoes from An*Tai*Na for a while and finally asked them for a quote. Apparently they want $45 usd for 1 pair of shoes and $40 for shipping?? I feel like they're asking too much. Did anyone pay around $90 for 1 pair of shoes from them?
>>
>>9505182
Japonica declares things as a gift by default, idiot.
>>
>>9505195
Don't waste $90 on crappy replicas that aren't even good quality. Check out Queen Bee or Yosuke.
>>
>>9505195
Sounds too crazy, but shoes are indeed heavy.
If you are going to $90, better look for original AP tea parties in Wunderwelt or Closet Child. Sometimes they get good deals. I have bought tea parties like that and payed shipping of ~$20
>>
>>9504962
It's best to not tag an outfit as lolita if it's not meant to be. Some people might target you anyway if they recognize the dress but if that does happen just take it in stride, there are no real consequences to being posted in the ita thread.

>>
Taobao order arrived today and... Holy shit, my dress has skeleton knights on it!? I somehow forgot or didn't notice them when I ordered the dress, my mind is blown right now. I'm so happy, I actually cried a little.

>tfw brand isn't into knights so I'll never have this sort of print in brand quality
>>
>>9505233
How can you not have noticed the massive print when you ordered it?
>>
>>9505236
Stupidity, I guess. Also I originally impulse-bought it after seeing this stock photo. The print isn't as obvious in this pic.
>>

>>9505201
Thanks anons, for some reason I thought they'd be cheap and I'm hesitant on buying AP shoes since I heard they fall apart after a few wears but I'll keep an eye out.

But I figured $90 was way too much for replica tea parties. That's a shame.
>>
>>9503838
I hate it too anon.
Why can't I search by brand, and then only their items?
Or am I overlooking search options or something?

>>
>>9505231
Not really. You could maybe use it for a more experimental/offbeat kind of coord but you'd need experience and a really solid lolita foundation to pull it off.

Theres this seller on Lacemarket thats selling (by her own admission) a dress with a nasty smell. She says that the buyer has to take it to the dry cleaners, but is it alright if I ask her to do it herself? Should I offer to pay for dry cleaning?

I dryclean all my dresses before selling and I don't add that charge to the sale price, it's common courtesy of the seller to ship the items in the best condition possible. I wouldn't buy from whoever that is, they sound like a fucking cheapskate in the worst of ways.
>>

The print is called Fantastic Glory, the shop is Floating Dreams. I got it through MLD but you can probably get it cheaper elsewhere. I will say, the fabric itself is on the delicate side and I've heard some people's jsks arrived with the text mirrored. But I honestly think it's worth it. Even if it has mirrored text, it's just such a unique print. And the Jsk is lined and really comfy too.

Wunderwelt's website is much more responsive, nicely laid-out and easy to use, and I find their update schedule much more manageable, so I mostly use them. Generally I dislike ordering from CC - do they allow Tenso yet?

Maidenclothing are cheap as fuck for nonprints, IDK why people say WW is cheap desu, Wunderwelt's prices are higher than regular auctions and Maidenclothing. You get what you pay for though because Wunderwelt take large, nice photos (better and more detailed than CC), whereas a lot of the time Maidenclothing don't even iron/steam stuff before photographing it.

Not to stir anything up, but I've always wondered what the deal is with the phrase "kadona"? I've never used it myself, but every time someone uses it everyone has a reaction.
>>
>>9505994
kodona*

It was used by a member of the band Plastic Tree to describe his personal style in an interview in the GLB (the heart of a child, in an adult body. Child = kodomo, adult = otona, combined, kodona; there is now an indie decora-ish brand by that name for the same reason, which is completely unrelated).

The article wasn't completely translated at the time, so people in the west took the word to mean that style in general, not just his personal fashion choice.

in my experience/from what I've seen with others' experiences, Japanese are meticulous about noting down damage and marking clothes as more damaged than they realistically are. happens with wunderwelt, Y!A, and most of the kimono sales I've seen. Same reason why there's so much chiffon and prints. OTT is both popular and can be sold for more. The new OTT trend is a lot dressier and fancier than sweet to the point where even AP's newest cutsews are fairly delicate and formal looking. No one would deny this is OTT sweet style wise and casual comfort wise, but this same type of coord would a lot harder to pull off as modern OTT classic even with lacy chiffon cutsews. That kind of material just doesn't go with an "opulent/regal" look.

Their style isn't for everyone but Putumayo makes cutsew versions of everything and has some plainer items.

Wrong pic, but still fits a bit actually.

I'd assume it's technically safe because they're not making the item themselves, also assuming that you'll actually get your item, but you shouldn't give your money to known scammers.

I love the use of stickers

This is a pretty fair point actually. I'll pass to be safe.

I never knew big SS were rude, that's terrible. I understand their concern but, lolita wise, they're "privileged" (if I can say so) by living in Japan. They have brand stores there, thrift shops with lots of jfash and lolita,... in Europe and America we have close to nothing, importation fees, custom fees,...can be hell,.. it's harder for us in general. They can't just keep it all to themselves you know? While I understand why they wouldn't want to sell to a foreigner because of said reason, I would be miffed to be denied a dress I like just for being a gaijin piggu

Talking about SS, does anyone knows why Japonica say they won't order for you if they find out you have a Mercari or Fril account? That's really weird
>>
Is it normal for it to take nearly 10 days for an SS to purchase a fril item? I'm using FromJapan, it's my first time using them for anything other than Y!J. I paid the first charge to buy on the 25th and it still says order pending. The dress is definitely still available, too.
>>
>>9506610
Sometimes? The seller might have a comment in the listing to pm them before buying, and then they might want to exchange messages before letting you (the SS) purchase.
>>
>>9506610
No it's not normal
>>
>>9505577
It's a Taobao store
>>
Does anyone know where to find GLB 37 scans? I usually download them from lj but the links are broken. I'm looking for the btssb pattern as well.
>>
>>9505233
Would make for a really sweet dark souls coord.
>>
>>9506567
I believe what they said is
"Notice: Mercari/Fril Order
If you use our services for Mercari/Fril Order.
Please do not negotiate/inquire directly with the seller.
If we find your Mercari/Fril ID, we do not buy the item.
Mercari/Fril does not accept proxy service.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter."
I think it means people were creating accounts to negotiating with sellers and to buy. Then telling them that they would pay through Japonicas account. I think they didn't want to be outed as a shopping service.
>>
>>9506522
They can buy from Western communities too though. They just don't.

it's always something new

Having just received my first Ozz Oneste dress, I'm really not sure why the brand is relevant to lolita? Don't get me wrong, this dress is lovely, high quality, comfy as fuck, and I'm going to wear it a lot, but... It's really not lolita. It's not even punk. I'm really confused why so many lolita secondhand shops sell it.
>>
>>9506735
It's a gothic brand, isn't it? Secondhand shops often carry gothic brands too.
>>
>>9506738
Maybe some of their stuff is gothic. This dress was under the gothic section of closet child... But it really isn't gothic. It's just cute normal, maybe borderline otome at best.

Just because they use a picture from infanta doesn't mean they'll send you an infanta blouse.

This is the dress btw. I'm very happy with it, I wanted it for casual wear anyway, but it's more normie than I expected

They do have lolita releases, they're just a versatile brand. They post pictures of their customers on twitter and it's often lolitas.
>>
>>9506756
>>9506757
Commented too late. It doesn't look normie at all.
>>
>>9506743
>borderline otome at best.
Otome kei isn't really a thing in japan anymore. They call the more normie looking stuff girly style and the more lolita looking stuff (casual) lolita. What you posted can totally work for lolita.

I love the casual feel of many of their releases. I think it would be fun to wear to a concert.
>>
>>9506761
Well I'll be. That's really cool. I am loving the quality of the dress I got, so I'm going to keep an eye out for their lolita releases in the future. Is one of their labels more lolita than the others? I know there's Ozz Oneste, Ozz Angelo, and Ozz Croce, and my dress is actually Ozz Croce.

>>9506765
It actually doesn't fit much petticoat at all, and the material is a little stretchy. Its general construction is unlike any other lolita dress I've had. It might be loliable for someone more fashionable than me, though. How would you coord it?

But it does have a petticoat in the picture you posted, just don't try to stuff two cupcake petti's underneath and wear it with a nice a-line petti. I think oneste has the more lolita releases but I'm not an expert. They just have a different style from what's popular and they're a bit more affordable.

Pirate lolita still exists tough? Isn't AatP releasing something with a pirate boat on it?

Any SATX lolitas go to the Hello Kitty event at La Cantera? I wanted to go, but the wait time seemed like too much of a hassle.

Nah definitely not normal.
Sounds like we're all having troubles with fril/mercari lately

I have this. Does anyone have any more information on how to go about it though?
>>
>>9507209
Is the phone number yours? They'll send you a verification text so you need to be able to receive it. You also need a valid Japanese (or international) credit card or bank account that works overseas. Use appropriate keigo. If they find out you're trying to send the items to a forwarding service you'll likely get banned.
>>
>>9506413
There's a lot more oldschool stuff on Fril because Fril is easy to use from mobile so most sellers see it as less hassle for cheap items. Wunderwelt sometimes has stuff too.
