Should I go for 33ft lighting or 66ft, for a full canopy?

Any inspiration for a room so small that your queen size bed takes up 85% of the space? Our stupid bed frame is the width of the wall, and has these annoying side tables attached.

To make the room more "aesthetic", I designed a lighted canopy, but I feel so stifled in my tiny matchbox.

>pic related, is my room
>>
I just got back home after a year of living abroad in the most adorable little lolita flat and now my own apartment feels so damn cramped and ugly. Those room threads really help to get me started with cleaning and throwing out all the boring stuff.
>>
>>9502336
I know the feeling ugh
>>
>>9502336
So my bedroom is even smaller, but it's in my house. I don't know if you're able to do this, but take everything out of the room that you don't need. My room started with my bed (with two large drawers underneath), two side tables, two lamps. The ceiling on one side is the sloped attic style, there's a hanging light with a chain (I can hit my head on it when I sit up in bed), a hatch to the unfinished attic, and a window right in the corner, flush to the wall.

I replaced the chain with a white ribbon and a plastic glow star, then strung white corded soft yellow hue lights along the corners/where the ceiling and walls meet. I have a bunch of plants, so I hung a long pothos ivy in the corner and screwed hooks in and draped the ivy along the same area as the string lights. The bed set is a Cherrywood color, and the bedding is in light green with accents of dark greens and cream, and I hung a white chiffon type curtain that can be pulled aside with a gold curtain hook (lamps are gold with light green shades).

Stay away from dark colors, that will just close things up waaay too much. I can't tell what your color scheme is, but the vibe is dark hues and busy patterns, which I would avoid. Pick a theme and go with it, but limit yourself. I wanted to add glowing stars to the ceiling, but partner pointed out that it would be too busy, and our theme is secret garden.

even just rotating this 90 degrees will open more floorspace. i would also consider shaving down or removing one of the side tables.

>>9502336
I would also rotate the bed 90 degrees then get cabinets above / around the bed. You don't have to remove the side tables but like anon said, (if you can't afford or want to buy another bed) you can get somebody to remove the side tables, so for my idea they can be replaced with tall closets. I can see it's wood, so you can get a mouse sander (you don't want to do it by hand trust me) sand it down andd re-paint it. Also furniture that can hold loads of stuff like a room devider don't take in loads of floor space but does hold a lot of stuff.
>>
>>9502336
anon, your room is inspiration, but ffs get a matching bedset.

I guess this is kinda OT, but how do you guys deal with throwing away/selling gifts that the giver might notice are gone?

A pretty close friend gave me this fairly large wall mounted bottle opener that I do not need at all, but it seems really rude to just throw it away seeing as she will probably notice that it's gone the next time she visits.
>>
>>9503128
You could lie and say it broke, or just tell them you didn't want it anymore. People's tastes change.
>>
>>9502336
Like the other anons said rotate the bed if you can, or push it against the corner so it's not square in the middle. It wont look as nice with the canopy though if it's off to one side or rotated, but you'll have much more space.

Is that board behind your bed because your windows are floor length or actually patio doors or something? pick a colour scheme for your curtains and match it to your bedspread, lighter colours will make the room look bigger. I'm not into the fact your canopy curtains hang over your bedside tables either.

What're those fabricy things either side of your window as well? I can't tell from the lighting.

Underbed storage and high shelves are a great way to maximise space in a small room. I have cute boxes on my shelves to put bits that don't look cool on display, the rest I have arranged nicely.

>>9503128
>it broke
If you wanna go the white lie route. But if you have a good relationship with your friend just tell them you don't really use/need/want it and offer it back
>I don't use it that much, would you like it back? It's really going to waste here and I feel bad about it

Do it in the order that she says. Also you don't need a reason to be attatched/keep stuff. If it evokes a feeling of joy keep it. If you're unsure put it in a pile and sort that pile again later
>>
>>9505149
With clothes I don't know if I want to keep I usually do that thing where you put them in a box for a few months, and if you aren't missing them at all during that time you clearly don't like them all that much. Less useful with seasonal clothes though, but it still sorta works.

Also, and I think she says this in her book, don't keep shit that's "almost good", stuff that could be good and give you joy if it wasn't for one or two things. I for example sold off this really soft linen dress shirt a while ago because it was too tight over the shoulders and I never wore it because of that even though I liked everything else about it.

Anyone know the release date for the last episode of Voltaire's gothic homemaking? It's bittersweet but I'm looking forward to it.

And on that note gothic inspo is appreciated, especially any with green accents since the house I just moved into has this green carpet that's been hard to tie in so far.

(desu I have a bunch of decor stuff stored in the dining room and am currently habitating the living room because I don't wanna move my stuff into my room before I paint and then move it all out and in again. Most of my shit, including my jfash wardrobe, is still at my parents' house waiting for konmari to happen.)

tl;dr i'm goth just moved so much clutter help

This wall in the background is close to the green I have for my carpet, like a forest-y emerald.

I started a butterfly collection which is more classic-ish than gothic but I feel like if I mix in other taxidermy and stick to black frames it would work. I have a butterly in a frame like this that's blue.

And finally the coolest dining room ever taken with the worst camera ever. I really like the cluttered walls; they're cluttered in a cozy way that would make me feel like I'm in ye olde curiosity shoppe. Which I think is a classy, comfy style that's more grown up than the band poster plastered walls of my past. When I meet my goals my walls will be covered in antiques, taxidermy, and vintage black and white photos in spooky frames.

Speaking of walls, should I just do straight white or black and white stripes? I know everyone does black and white stripes but I don't know if that means it's basic or timeless. What do you guys think? Would the stripes clash with the cluttered walls?
>>
>>9509677

It's going to depend on what you want to put up on the wall. The trouble with an all-black wall is if you're going to put dark-coloured stuff on it, it's going to dissappear since there's not much contrast. Notice that this wall is red, not black, and the dark-coloured stuff shows up much better than if the wall was black.
>>
>>9509677
Personally, I'd go for grey walls. Neutral, not too clutter-y and still dark enough to work with gothic.
>>
>>9505766
Not sure of the magazine but roomclip.jp is amazing for similar inspo
>>
>>9509677
You're green carpet anon right? Just wrongdoing whether white + green will look ok or whether you're better to go for a slightly off white shade. Stripes are good as a feature wall, but too often tacky as shit or done as a default. If you're planning to put a lot up I'd keep it plain.
>>
>>9509790
>>9509793
>>9510054

Thanks guys! I had grey walls at my last house so maybe I could do a cool grey that'll pick up the green. I also like the idea of an accent wall, but not stripes if I do grey. Maybe a marbled design? Or a large scale photo mural in black and white?

does anybody have any examples or suggestion on how to make your room look cute and pastel without it coming across as a childs room or ageplayers even.
ive shown some things to my boyfriend in the past but he insists they all look like a kids room rather than a 20 somethings and id have to agree with him.
>>
>>9510463
Definitely keep out any things made for children, like stuffed animals, toys, or kids furniture. Other good things to avoid: minky or chiffon fabrics, decorative letters, bedspreads with barbie/hello kitty/animals/etc., shag rugs, and clutter in general. Instead, use more adult room decor like paintings, books (for adults), candles, or plants.

Another tip: Classic-style furniture like Rococo or Victorian looks pretty and flowery, but refined. Kids furniture usually looks very simple and blocky in comparison. Pic related may not be the prettiest room in the world, but it looks far more adult than >>9505252 or >>9505254.

A photo mural is going to look pretty crowded again once you put your curios up. Maybe save that idea for another feature wall in your house.

If you feel up to it, you could composite all the things you want to hang up on that wall, and then either paint on or buy wall stickers with a design that would suit the placement of the curios, like pic related. Other than a generic tree design you could also go for flying bats background, bookshelf wallpaper, or maybe just paint on your favorite gothy quote or favorite band logo (assuming you have a favorite)

Otherwise, yeah, I guess going with marbled is a good move.

Go for the more grown up furniture and a neutral/pastel theme rather than childish prints and character homeware if you don't want to look like you're in a kids' room. You can still have cute and pastel things in it but you want the overall feeling to be more Anthropologie, romantic chic or French countryside than Hello Kitty Cafe or Swimmer everything. Examples for a bedroom might be using a cute pastel cake stand for accessories vs. Disney Princess jewellery stand, a plain ruffled comforter vs. a printed one, keeping most of the shades neutrals with blush pink/mint accents vs. pink being the main colour.
>>
>>9510463

If you're willing to blow a minor fortune, you could look up baroque or rococo pastel rooms. It is actually expensive to furnish, and a lot of elements are hard to find, though, which is why it doesn't look like a kid's room -- too expensive and too much workmanship to be one. Soon as you go cheap and blocky, that’s where it starts to look like a low-budget kid’s room.

If you aren't too set on being sweet lolita sweet, you could look into blending with other styles. Gothic actually has some nice pink rooms that work well if you're more into princess styles, or you could just look into gothic furniture (some of them come in white), and do your room in a mix of neutrals and pastels.

Alternatively, shabby chic works well with pastels and generally looks more like a warm home than a kid’s playset. There’s inspo boards full of mismatched decor as well, so it’s a good choice if you have, for eg, a lot of different plushies or different teasets or whatever collections that you want to display together.

As a bonus, both gothic-sweet and shabby chic has blacks and browns, which your bf might prefer (if he’s sharing space with you).

You could look on sites where artists can put up prints like Society6 or Redbubble. There's a lot of garbage but you can find some good stuff (pic related is from Society6).

Alternatively, you could think of artists you already like and look for where they sell prints. I recently bought a poster by an artist I like from some Japanese art gallery's online store.

Could you tell your friend that you are going for a minimalist look or trying to declutter you house? I think most people understand the 'spring cleaning' urge.
>>
>>9511903
sounds good, you could even add some silver or metallic gunmetal grey
>>
>>9511966
I do wonder what I should do for window treatments though. Cus I wanna bring in the green but I don't want it to be overpowering against the carpet so I don't want straight green. But I feel anything multicolored may look too busy against the wall.

I would do green at the top because green at the bottom would blend right into the carpet and idk if I want that? Maybe do an ombre dye job of green into black?
>>
>>9512462
If you still want live plants, have you had any zamioculcas? They are notoriously hard to kill and look decent. Succulents are also very low maintenance and come in plenty of shapes and sizes.
>>
>>9512473
I mean keep in mind living things aren't exactly my aesthetic lol. I like my decor DEAD.

Seriously though, pressed leaves and flowers are more my style anyway. I like succulents but I feel like they'd be a little boho for this room.

Selfposting my room! it's almost finished, but I'm in the process of hanging more prints and finding something to go on the wall behind the bed. Also got a couple matching lamps for the night stands.
>>
>>9512821
The black frames seem a little out of place but otherwise this is really cute! I understand how it could be hard to find frames in that many sizes all in the same color though. Have you thought of spraypainting them to help fit in with the light colors in your room?
>>
>>9512821
Cute! Do you have a frontal shot of your gallery wall?
>>
>>9512835
I haven't! I'd honestly probably be too lazy, but one day I might do so.

>>9512841
Thanks! I don't at the moment, but once I finish hanging the new prints, I'll probably get around to taking one. Most of them are files/postcards from AP, with some other stuff mixed in.
>>
>>9512821
Contact paper in a lighter color applied to the TV would lighten the space
>>
>>9512821
Love it, sauce on the ghost ukulele?

I agree that the black frames and black TV look out of place. I also think the end tables and vanity could do with a paint job to match the rest of your room. I would go with a white, shabby chic paint job with some pastel knobs.
>>
>>9512862
Haven't even thought of that! Does it stay on from the static of the tv?

>>9512954
Uke is a Makala Waterman. I considered painting the furniture, but the vanity is the original wood finish, and I don't want to ruin it either. I tried balancing it out with different wood pieces around the room and have a darker jewelry armoire in the non-visible corner. Maybe if I try lace tableclothes or doilies that would help?
>>
>>9513833
I mean the lace tablecloths/doilies would work if you went for a more classic vibe but it looks like you wanna go more sweet.

Here's an idea for a furniture paint job, even if it's just for the end tables:

Sand the piece and prime it. You can either use the white from the primer as a base or paint it a pastel. Then, lay a panel of lace over the piece, and spraypaint with another color to create a lace pattern on your furniture. You can also do a glittery finish if you want.

The lace pattern would look nice on just the tops of your end tables but it's a bit to kitschy on an entire piece of furniture, ya feel?

Not sure, I've been meaning to try it on my own TV to test it. I'll report back if I do! I'm moving into a new apartment so it may be a while.

I noticed you have potential in the corner under the plushie net. If you're looking to maximize your storage, they make shelves designed for small space corners.

I also agree with the other anon that the frames are out of place. Nothing wrong with them, they just don't suit the elegance or colors of their images. Believe me, a coat of white paint would do wonders. It seems you have black, white, pink, the natural wood (which I actually like, goes with the ukeleles), lavender? walls, and the red of the sheets all competing with each other. Sticking to 2-3 colors would transform the room. Since you said you like prints, have you considered placing some on your window sill like pic related?
>>
>>9513855
Ooh, that sounds cute! The lamps currently aren't in my possession, but once I have them, I may gauge how they look, and possibly look into painting the tables at least.

>>9513913
Let us know how it turns out! I've never heard of using it, so I'm curious.
I'm not too short on storage since I have a big closet, that space under the net is the one I'm currently in the process of filling though! I started hanging some of my bags since I have more than even the picture shows, but I haven't entirely decided if I like how it looks yet.
The walls are a greyish/blue, unfortunately I can't paint those, but my color scheme originally was white/pink/burgundy. I definitely see why the black sticks out, since the wood is incorporated throughout, but the black is only on the frames. I may make time to spray them after all, and possibly find some way to bring out more burgundy too since I don't have much besides the sheets.

TLDR: You guys have some neat ideas, I'll probably look into some of them in hopes of tying everything together a little more!

>>9512821
I love your room! I feel like we'd be friends if we ever met. I've seen that bedding set before, do you happen to still have the link to where you got it from?

Voltaire literally published a book called "what is goth" in 2004. Regardless of your opinion on his attractiveness or personal apeal; he's an extremely respected foundation of modern gothic culture. That wall is an ancient alcove thst he has used for YouTube recording for years in a beautiful apartment in progress--I highly suggest the YouTube series green carpet anon mentioned if you have interest in gothic decor and shopping. He drops names of phenomenal shops like candy in this series!

The TV interviews for that old book are fantastic because he was younger and strikingly handsome; not to say he isn't anymore..

Serious question, how the fuck do people with rooms like this (if there even are any of you) keep them clean? Dust sets off my nose instantly and where I live (central california) it piles up ridiculously fast, I have to have everything I own kept inside something else to protect it and dust at least once a week. Am I just doomed because of location? Are places like europe/east coast that have more weather less predisposed to dust in the first place?

Its a work in progress. I pretty much just made it after the creation of this thread.

https://maximumcomfy.tumblr.com/

what I need to add:
>better profile layout
it kinda sucks. I want to cater towards the interests of everyone that chooses to join though
>user profiles
I'd like each person to have their own tag "mod N" or "mod Z" - which you could click and see whatever these users post
and a little "about me" section saying their fashion style, their interests, their preferred interior design styles, and a link to their social media of choice. If people get on board and are active, I'd like to make chibi artwork of them to better fill out their profiles. cute stuff
>theme tags
click a tag with a theme, you see more stuff of said theme
>original posts
if you can take pictures of your interior or even the interior of hotels/restaurants you fancy, that'd make for cool content.

All interior design is welcome. Not just stuff that is my personal aesthetic.

what methods do you guys use for hanging clothes on the wall? both for display and convenience purposes. and do you bother worrying about UV rays coming from the window or whatever?
>>
>>9555905

Command hooks for convenience sake, but if you're worried about uv affecting your clothes, either get uv film for your windows or don't display them. You don't really have any other options aside from that because the sun WILL fade them.

I'm finally nerding up my place and need some inspiration on how to showcase merch on my wall. It's mostly wands and miniature swords, so they are rather flat, but not flat enough to fit into just any picture frame. I also don't just want to nail them to my wall, but give them some kind of frame or bedding. Does anyone have some ideas or even inspiration pictures for me?

I'm redoing my room and I live in a REALLY old house. There used to be a chimney in my room and there's a big slag of concrete where it used to be. I want to cover it with a carpet but I can't find one that's the right color (either baby pink or true white, not beige or offwhite), the right size (the slab is 74cm x 187cm) and that isn't the price of my dreamdress. Does anyone have suggestions ? Other ideas ?

Anyone having trouble deciding on themes and styles for their house? I'm finally getting my own place and I have very classic antique furniture and pictures in my bedroom stuff, but I want to do a super cutesy pastel kitchen. Trying to marry both styles, but I feel like my house isn't going to match with itself, if that makes sense
>>
>>9564574
I understand completely. As a child I imagined every room as a separate identity with separate styles but that's not realistically feasible. It depends on your homes design but maybe do a 50s pastel kitchen and connect it to an elegant dining room with a similar color theme? That is, you don't have to do pastels but don't do super dark colors either.

I'm struggling to even decorate my shitty student apartment because I have no taste in these things despite accumulating a metric tonne of This Old House
>>
>>9564574
there's nothing wrong with having differently themed rooms imo... i think it's fun and creative. no need to have your entire house matching (except on the outside maybe)
>>
>>9564142
It will look nicer if you don't use styro heads and invest in some retro ones or just some cheap blank mannequin heads.

I agree with >>9564549, a floating shelf is a good choice as long as you dust regularly.

You can also use the little pink wig holders. And don't be afraid to put in accessories! If you swap them out regularly, it's like playing with a friends hair all day
>>
>>9564586
These are on a bookshelf and integrate with the theme
>>
>>9564587
And these are the wig holders I was referring to. You could easily paint them or cover them in ribbon or washi tape, with the possible exception of the joints.
>>
I hope this is appropriate but I would love feedback and opinions about kitchen decoration. I want to do an undersea theme, think Bioshock or maybe steampunk. Doing a small dump of products and inspirational spaces.

Is it really that weird for an adult to be sleeping in a twin bed? I'm 26 but the bedroom in the house I am moving into is very small. I could probably fit a full bed or even a queen bed but I'd rather have the extra floor space and room for other furniture.
>>
>>9570151
I think it's fine. A twin or even a single is economical, especially if you're not sharing it every night. It's not childish or kiddish especially if you dress it up right and nobody will judge you.

Just moved in to a new student house for the year and it's fucking grim. Any edgy/goth/weeby ideas to spruce up a slightly depressing magnolia room with cheap plywood furniture that I'm not allowed to replace or modify, gross brown carpet and lots of damage and damp from the previous tenant? If you look up "postcard gallery" on image search (or maybe pinterest) you can get an idea for how other people creatively arrange smaller bits of art. If they're all a similar theme you can group them together and make a themed wall out of them (sort of like an ita bag, but an ita wall, I guess).

I'm not a fan of corkboards because it tends to look like some sort of project or homework board. Maybe that's just me, though.

I'm in the market for a new desk. my old one is just seriously dated and doesn't do much for me anymore. I've been looking for something similar to pic related, but I have a deep seated hatred for Ikea furniture and dont really know what terms to search for or where to find something similar.
I'm from the UK if that helps any.

How do you all organize your normie and lolita wardrobes? Are they all together or separated?

Currently all of my clothes are mixed together, but I'm looking for a way to organize it into general j-fash, lolita, casual normie, and "professional." My only obstacle is that I have a few pieces that can go in multiple/all categories (ex: IW boleros, Milk cardigans, understated lolita blouses, etc.) How do you guys deal? (pictures more than welcome!)
>>

I went for the cheap way, bought 2 closets, one for 'fancy' the other for everyday / work. If you wanna do it right you can get a custom wardrobe which I'm going to get once I move into a bigger house. Plus I'd like to have a separate space for cosplay supplies or other hobbies to keep my bedroom tidy
