Housing update: it seems that as long as you were able to provide the deposit to the Fairmont, they have re instated all the canceled rooms. It was an error on their part, not fanime housing's or those who booked rooms, as even anons with plenty of money to cover it still got their reservation 'canceled' yesterday.

All seems to be okay now though. If you don't see a charge from the fairmont on your account I would definitely call them however, since they apparently don't have their shit together and there is a 3pm PST deadline to make the payment.

And yet their security staff went all high and mighty and shut many of them down. It's not much a party con rather than a "social con" which can be done without paying for their shitty badge.

Last year Fanime fuck up big time by trying to save money by implementing changes very close to launch time and were instructed to maintain peace in whatever fashion. Sure they had great intent, but their execution was by far piss poor. Now they had a year to work out their shitty system from last year, but I still have doubts that it'll be better than last year. Many of the staff came back and doesn't seem much would change. I want to be optimistic, but going off personal experience, this feels like same shit, different year.

Does anyone else have helpers at Swap Meet that don't have badges, but are merely there to hold you spot and bring stuff into the building with them? I sent an email asking if this was okay because I have RA and while I have a lot of stuff to sell, I can't - and we are not allowed- to do multiple trips back and forth once we are given a space. So I need my boyfriend there to help me bring everything in and to hold my spot because of my overactive bladder also. Im hoping they say it is okay because I dont want to have to buy him an $85 badge just to help me watch my spot for 3 hours. Idk if you're talking about a different shuttle system but last year we stayed at the Double Tree and the shuttle system was awesome. It ran all night and at very regular intervals. It made staying in an offsite hotel not a big deal.
I can def see it being a problem if you have big props or large cosplays but otherwise it's a decent system.
And boy do those drivers know how to put up with some bullshit. Idk how they manage.

I'm not sure people understand how third parties work. In this case, Fanime Housing is our third party and books all the surrounding hotels in the area around the convention.

Fairmont is a shitty example of booking people and dropping people from their rooms if they do not book the entire weekend. Example of Fairmont shittiness: book a room from Friday-Sunday [especially if it's 1-2 people reserving], your reservation will automatically be placed onto what's called a "move list." This is because Fairmont wants to make sure that people are staying the entire weekend to pay for it, because it's more business for them that way. Fairmont doesn't care about relocating people even if it means all their rooms are "full" for the entire weekend. Fairmont can do this, and they're willing to pay any amount to make things run smoothly for them. They no longer care about the people staying for this con. It's just business to them.
When you book through Fanime Housing, nothing is ever guaranteed, because usually most hotels have their own rules they abide by. Fanime Housing will release what's called a "master list," about a week before the con depending on how shitty their organizing is.

This is no longer in circulation and the only copies you can find online are through Amazon and they are going minimum $130. If I take it to Swap Meet, think I am in the right to ask at least for $100 and if someone wants to buy it, just let them complain about the cost while explaining the circumstances for the high cost? There is a $40 retail value mark by the barcode on the back, but this was purchased 4years ago at this point and with no other findings online, I think its reasonable, right?

Fuck the Fairmont, I'm surprised this year is the first time people here have had problems with them. I've seen them break props and ruin wigs on multiple occasions (including once when their valet ignored our requests to let us carry a fragile sword and then swung it and snapped it in half, and other times when their maids went into rooms with do not disturb signs and messed with props that were neatly put away or wigs that were on stands), once been double-charged, once had them charge a surprise $800 deposit, and once got home and discovered a huge scrape on my GF's car, which had been parked by their valet and was in their lot all weekend.
