I know you can use markers and alcohol (or something like that) and spray it on the wig to make it darker, but I feel like it could get messy since you wouldn't really have much control of where it goes

As to why a lot of girls do sexy genderbends, I would guess that, if there isn't a character in the game that's skimpy enough, they can just do a genderbend, because that gives you some freedome in redesigning the costume

I made mine entirely of foam and spackle. I just focused on where circular parts are (barrel and the bottle under the barrel) then got one of those clear balls for the back part with balloon lights and crepe paper.

You can tell it's not properly fitted/not the correct size due to the extreme amount of wrinkles and looseness of the sleeves. As for the breasts, making it look tightly over them is pretty easy when she has a pose that helps stretch out over the torso, not to mention the hips have a lot of wrinkling downwards which helps show loose it is on her hip area. While I agree with what you said, I think the point anon was trying to make was the cosplayer does not know how to "model" her face so to speak, the angle she took the picture with makes her mouth look rather thin lipped and small, not to mention she has it half opened which show a bit of teeth that don't help matters. She seems to have a bit of mannish face and this pose only seems to have increased that perception of her face and makes it look too harsh.

This is only 50% true, posing matters less the better the costume, the shittier the costume the more it matters. In this case, the costume, her hair, her face and the pose all work against her. While the costume itself seems good quality the material and size that they used is too big for the cosplay and so it ruins it. Plus the really stiff and lifeless hair. I usually try to take a picture of the charavter, and then break up the costume into which pieces will each be separate pieces of fabric, and then figure out what all my measurements should be from there. I draft pretty much everything from scratch and this hasn't failed me yet. For things like the sleeves, check out a youtube video on how to make t-shirts.

If you mean the gun, it looks like how they paint over those nerf guns for LARP. Ad least, some of the better ones. Get some plastic, basecoat it black, paint it grey, ad detail. Suggest looking into painting technics used for Warhammer. Their paint (Citadel miniature paints) is good too, if not expensive. It doesn't get off with water and oil too (you need a special remover), so it'll be weather safe.
