What do you think of this substyle?
Have you worn it?
Do you like what brands have released for it?

Steampunk lolita is a thing that non-lolitas think exists.
Literally every art trade/challenge thingie where people are supposed to draw lolitas, a bunch of people draw steampunk lolita like it is a thing.
>>9480631
>>9480633
Then what the hell am I posting if this does not exist? Substyles are a thing.
>>9480634
Meta, A/P and h.Naoto agree it's a thing

And >>9480631 simply has a clock-theme going on.
Steampunk doesn't work well with lolita.

1. that's ita as fuck if it ever wanted to be lolita
2. what's not brown about the belt on the left and blouse on the right
>>9480653
how about black? (on the right)
This is all ita, Steampunk needs to stay out of lolita, it always looks like trash and isn't a real substyle.
>>9480654
You have some serious shit taste lmao
>>9480654
that's just a hot mess and not even steampunk
>>9480642
If it was just meant as a clock theme she probably wouldn't have tagged it with steampunk lolita.
>>9480647
>>9480657
Do you just not understand how substyles in lolita work? If someone wears a coord with military elements, we call it military lolita. If someone wears a pirate-inspired lolita coord, we call it pirate lolita. It's not that serious.
>>9480640
Ozz On also
>>9480659
don't you see the goggles?
>>9480666
>pirate lolita
Yeah no
>>9480641
that looks like a better version of pic related
Baby got issues and Steam Alice is one of them
>>9480670
>what is Alice and the Pirates
newgull pls
>>9480666
No we don't. We call it an outfit with a pirate theme or military theme. It's not a whole substyle like classic.
Or do you think chooclate and cookie lolita is a thing?
Also, just because that girl calls is steampunk, it is not. The only steampunk element are clocks and they can easily be used for an alice theme as well. She was talking out of her ass just like you.
>>9480667
>uuh goggles insta steampunk
Are you even wearing steampunk? I don't, but my in-laws do and they would laugh at you equating clocks-only and goggles-only as a steampunk outfit. There's more to it.
>>9480674
pirate lolita was a really short phase
>>9480644
Implying anyone in Japan wears lolita anymore.
>>9480683
the ones that do, wear steampunk
with goggles and gears and clock hands and brown
it is everything you hate about steampunk, affixed to lolita burando, over there
>pic unrelated, just next in minidump
>>9480678
>pirate lolita was a really short phase
AatP stopped making pirate items in order to make steampunk items
>>9480678
Just because cgl got triggered by the word substyle doesn't mean nurse, military, pirate, princess, country lolita and so on stopped being substyles to everyone else
this thread really grinds my gears

>>9480678
>my in-laws do and they would laugh at you equating clocks-only and goggles-only as a steampunk outfit
I knew Hitler and he would laugh at people equating someone wearing the d.Walkure set to a nazi. Military lolita doesn't even look like you're really in the military, what are they thinking??
>>9480710
maybe because there is no military lolita, just military themes.
>>9480712
You are literally just using a different word for the same thing.
Tbh, I don't want to call them themes because it's harder to pronounce. Besides, most guides refer to them as substyles because that's what people called it in the beginning. Maybe to native English speakers, "substyle" has a different meaning and "theme" sounds more logical. But we have several English and Japanese words that we use when talking about lolita in our own language, and a lot of them don't make much sense if you obsess over the literal meaning. Should we change all those words too?
>jUST THROW SOME GEARS AND SHIT ON IT
viola its steampunk
>>9480659
If you read the description it's called "steam style" though. I get that you don't like it but it's kind of silly to act like it's not a thing, at least in Japan.

not a substyle, just a theme that comes up occsionally. not enough people can do this properly for it to be an entire substyle.
>>9480883
>not enough people can do this properly for it to be an entire substyle.
Where in the rulebook is that listed as a requirement? I wonder how many people there need to be and who decides if they're doing it properly.
>>9480641
Nothing about this is steampunk it's just brown????
>not posting the queen of steampunk loli
>>9480914
>>9480913
It is not supposed to look like actual steampunk, they're wearing a steampunk-inspired collection from alice and the pirates. If I remember correctly the sets had some clock stuff too and was called train something.
>>9480914
Nobody knows who that is
A lot of these pics look cute and all, but unfortunately real life interactions with steampunk fans have tainted my perception of this theme. I need to cleanse.
>>9480929
I feel the same about military lolita desu. Nothing personal to the people who like it.
just because brand does it, doesn't mean it's not ita
>>9480927
Really? Her coords were atrocious. Her untucked blouses, jackets that weren't short enough for the Lolita sillohuette, though it's debatable she even knew what a petticoat was.
I think people dislike it for the same reason they dislike punk lolita. It's not as elegant, fancy, neat or polished looking as normal Lolita and the skirts are often shorter. I imagine that's why h.Naoto and Ozz On are not that popular here. Most of these coords have too much going on for my taste, but pretending it doesn't exist because you don't like it goes a bit far.
>>9480967
Tbh I think the thing that bothered me the most was those fucking spats she wore with everything.
She looks like she's quite thin, but she always looked frumpy as fuck and I'm sure bigger then she actually is
I do love natural colours, belts and time-pieces, so maybe I will try a toned-down steam coord in the future

I think when more than one brand puts out items more that once centered around a particular theme a that it is a sub-style In the case of steampunk lolita, I believe it is a substyle of lolita.

It is a theme
Just like pirate, nurse, punk etc
How are they a theme as opposed to a subtle? Well my friend, you could make them all on different ends of the sweet, classic, and Gothic spectrums. Hence theme.
Also none of these coords posted look good. They just don't work. Especially when it's just gears and clocks thrown on to an otherwise shit outfit.
The closest are:
>>9481016
>>9481010
^and it's debatable how "steam punk" most of these are if we're saying steam punk is mis matched colors and browns with goggles and gears
>>9480999
And that blue meta coord
Things don't have to match to be "aesthetic", but most people have shit taste and don't seem to understand that even "random" outfits have reasons why they work it don't work
>>9480990
fite me
>>9481063
That would depend on if the outfit.
The thing with country is you can do multiple themes with it, but generally I've seen country as either classic or a sweet classic blend depending on the dress and accessories
I personally like it if it is a cohesive coord. I think people reject it right away due to it being part of the steampunk community. To which, who cares? If someone is wearing steampunk themed lolita to events yet following the basic guidelines, should there really be as much of a fuss?
I've met Japanese students who call sweet "pink Lolita" still or do say "Alice lolita/Pirate lolita," I'm not seeing the big deal.
>>9480970
this, pretty much
i wish more lolitas used color in their steam coords. the bronze x brown look is dreary.
