One month away and no thread? Dead con confirmed.

Anyone going? Looking forward to anything? Will AnimeNEXT bringing Hatsune Miku from her grave be enough to save Gamblecon?
>>
Is it hard to find fandom photoshoots for Anext anymore or am I just incompetent? I feel like you either hear it through someone else or you see it pop up in a Facebook group.
>>
>>9473805

Holy shit a response. It seems like most people use the AnimeNEXT Facebook group to advertise their fandom shoots. The people who run AnimeNEXT's social media have been pretty active in facilitating the shoots, albeit there aren't too many. The biggest ones seem to be Overwatch, RWBY, Disney, and Pokemon at the moment, but smaller shoots are generally better in my opinion desu.

What's the best hotel to get in AC for AN?
>>
>>9478309

I think the convention takes place at the Sheraton so probably there. But it's most definitely full. They recently opened up Claridge Hotel for $159/night though, and it gets a shuttle to the convention.
>>
>>9478639
Yeah, that's what we reserved.

It's only a mile away, not much of a walk either, especially once it's warm.
>>
>>9478665

I've come to rely on AirBnB a lot recently. Picked up a place only 10 min away on foot for just $175 a night. It's a little pricier but we have the entire 2-3 bedroom house for the weekend. Claridge is still a great option though, and I would've probably gone for it if I didn't already have this spot.
>>
>>9478674
Air BnB is a great idea. 10 minute walk to the hotel is nice and close.

Are there any amenities? How much did it cost? How sure are you that your hosts aren't serial killers?
>>
first year going, coming from NYC. is the amtrak line the best way to get there?
>>
>>9478704

Amtrak is a great way to get there imo. It can be pretty comfy depending on what time you depart, and is relatively cheap.

>>9478702

Wifi, cable TV, air conditioning/heating. Pretty barebones. Ended up being a little over $500, and with the number of people it could fit, it ended up being incredibly cheap. Yet to know if I'll end up in the obituary, but the host seems to have a history of not killing their tenants according to AirBnB.

this, I'm really on the edge of commissioning someone to take a dbz photoshoot since I haven't seen one yet
>>
I'm going this year, looking forward to the dance, feel like over the year I've gotten a little more confident to dance in those big dance circles, also can't wait to hopefully enter the cosplay chess game.

wish they had a Pokemon tourney
>>

I'm kinda torn between just getting a hotel or just doing the train for 2 or 3 days. is it a really big convention? I normally go to NYCC every year so when I mean big I have that in mind.
>>
>>9478742

It's not a large convention, although it's been growing. I'd say it's roughly 1/5 the size of NYCC and 1/3 the size of Otakon. If you're going for anything other than meeting friends or enjoying the community, you'll likely be disappointed. With that being said, a hotel is 100% recommended for all of the reasons just mentioned.
>>
>>9478752
>If you're going for anything other than meeting friends or enjoying the community
So theres not a whole lot to look at in terms of panels and stuff to buy? I usually do conventions by myself
>>
>>9478760

It really depends on what you're looking for. The ANIMENEXT panel lineup is generally better than most conventions of similar and even larger size. This year they have members of the Yuri on Ice, ReLIFE, and Studio Trigger teams coming, and their panels will probably be good. The cosplay and entertainment panels are kind of lackluster, but that applies to 95% of cons. They definitely have a respectable Dealer's Room, but the Artist Alley is on the smaller side. I didn't go when they changed venues last year, so things might be different now. I hope you can enjoy yourself even if you're going it alone. I've tried it and it's unbearable for me.
>>

If you live outside of midtown Manhattan, you don't even have to take the train.

Just about every neighborhood will have a bus running to AC two-three times a day to shuttle gamblers. For $20 you'll get dropped off at Bailey's or another casino.

Check your local bodegas, see which one sells the tickets for the AC bus, and enjoy not having to schelp into Manhattan for a change.
>>
>>9479377
this is gonna sound a little weird but I get bus-sick so I try to avoid buses if I can. I don't mind the extra money for the train
>>9479178
I always try to sit in on any cosplay contests or something like the Trigger panel you mentioned. I guess I'll just go one day then and see if its to my liking. I've gone to NYCC alone for the last few years so I don't mind it at all. thanks for the info!
>>
>>9480293
It happens. I'd pay extra for a train if I couldn't read on a bus. You can't just sit on your hands the entire ride; that's bad for your sanity.

ANext is saved thanks to the inclusion of Japanese photobooths and some UFO catchers.
>>
>>9480293
how much might uber cost because at night I kinda don't feel like walking from the convention center to baileys
>>
>>9478742
If you're old enough to drink and find friends late at night, it is much more worth it to get a hotel. It makes the con actually worth it IMO.
>>
>>9478742
>>9482230

This. AnimeNEXT is a community-heavy convention and really shines when you just try to have a good time with fellow con-goers.
>>
>>9482230
>>9482448
gosh, you guys are just making this sound worse and worse for people like me. I have a bad case of the "fuck off" face or I guess RBF plus I have a hard time making new friends. To top all that shit off I don't drink alcohol. so what I'm taking away from all of this is that this convention is basically just a hang-out con? still gonna go for at least 1 day though
>>
>>9470893

I was waiting for this thread to pop up. Older guy going with a group of 4. This will be the first AN at this new location. I heard from alot of people that last year's con was actually pretty good.

These White Helmet wannabes called Operation Hammond just advertised themselves on the AnimeNEXT page.

Anyone have any good experience with them, or are they just cringy whiteknight fags on a mission to ruin cons?
>>
>>9478760
>>9479178
The game room was nice last year too imo. AC cooled, more than enough space to walk around in, clean, a good line up of games, etc. As someone who usually finds game rooms to be kinda boring/am generally uninterested in them, the one last year was pretty great imo.
>>
>>9486187
Aren't they just some first aid help? I think I needed some band-aids once for sore feet and they sent a whole team to deliver them, but otherwise I haven't heard anything awful.
>>
I'm almost done with finals.

Time to rush out a shitty costume for the convention.

It's this part that worries me. I don't want a self-anointed con police task force mucking up the convention experience for people. Harassment should be reported but this seems a little too oppressive and arbitrary to me.
>>
>>9487312
its standard HR speak, they are medics who will be a voice if you got assualted not the religious police, we aren't in Saudi or Qatar, and they are literally at every con for 3, 4 years now.
>>
>>9487851

>literally at every con

a bit of a stretch don't you think?
>>
>>9482730
Late, but even with resting bitch face, go hang and talk to people. If you strike up a conversation, you'll find people will talk to you and enjoy it, generally. And don't worry about the alcohol.
>>
>>9487271

As a functioning member of society, I can tell you it only gets harder after getting a full-time job. Fortunately, NJ cosplay scene isn't the best, so you shouldn't feel too bad.
>>
Haven't been in a few years since it was at the expo center. Is there a merch swap meet at this con? Or does anyone want to organize one?
