The last time I tried to (gently and politely) explain this to someone I got accused of #classicism too, because who am I to say she doesn't DESERVE lolita just because she's poor?! I never said anything about 'deserving', just that lolita is a luxury hobby that not everyone can afford. It's like these people keep forgetting that lolita is materialistic and frivolous at its core, not some god-given human right.

Anyway, isn't ~classicism~ kind of at the root of lolita to begin with? Lace has historically been very expensive and super full skirts with ruffles are a good way to show off how much fabric you can afford, not to mention the labour that goes into any intricate gown. The fashions that lolita is based off of would not have existed in an economically egalitarian society. If someone is so opposed to classicism, lolita is a strange hobby to be into.

I mean, if you can't afford it then I guess in a way you don't deserve it seeing as you can't pay for it, but honestly if that's the attitude they have about fucking dresses then no, they don't deserve to own lolita, especially if they're so stupid they can't find cheap lolita. I constantly find great deals from Wunderwelt with burando dresses for $40 that are cute and in great condition. Bodyline right now has dresses for $6. There is zero excuse for not being able to afford the fashion at this point and win all the readily available resources there's no excuse to be an ita.
Even for handmade lolitas, the resource pool is more limited, but you can easily learn to make nice rectangle skirts and if you have two working synapses you can figure out how to make a simple JSK bodice without it being Yumi King tier. The horses aren't just dead at this point we're pulling a Porphyria's Lover on the poor bastards.

I think it's because:
1. It's rare to see black girls wearing lolita in general. So the fails stand out 100x more than say someone who's white
2. It could be a size issue with a lot of them. I noticed most of the poorly dressed lolitas are also curvy. They may be having a difficult time figuring out which pieces/brands will fit, as well as understanding that there ARE good quality lolita pieces that can be made in their size
3. Lastly, and I don't mean to offend at all, but since their skin tone is way different than white/asian, it's harder for them to find colors that will compliment both their body as well as their skin tone.
