Last thread autosaged. 2 months people! I spent the whole night watching a bunch of different unknown dorks on Youtube just recording their days and talking about how much fun their having.

>Hey guys, good morning. It's day 1! Let's go check out the dealers room.
>Here we are having some lunch outside.
>Panel time! I love Fullmetal!
>Pokey! Ooooooo
>Ok, let's go drop off all our swag at the hotel room
>Sit on the big nice hotel beds and watch Judge Judy on the day time TV.

I'm so excited, and I have no idea why this brought me so much joy and some much jealously.

Also, my pic. I've been going to AX for 4 years now and I've never seen the main floor THIS crowed before? Or maybe I'm just in a panel when it's happening. But eesh.
>>

>I've been going to AX for 4 years now and I've never seen the main floor THIS crowed before?
Looks like the crowd waiting for the expo hall to open. There was a big rush last year.
>>
>>9461225
Why rush? Not like it's any different all four days?
>>
why do i have a sinking feeling that there will be somesort of politcally motivated fight this year?

also possible attack on convention ??????
>>
>>9461227
many people feel that is part of the "experience". frick that, body odors, weaboos sweaty perspiration, and who wants to be stuck in that as you inch your way to the doors lolol... I personally just wait it out an hour or so.

>>9461232
>also possible attack on convention ??????
this posting again?... yeah attacking animu will cause a financial strain on the federal gov't so they can't build that wall to stop the islamic kaijus.
>>
>>9461232
>some sort of politically motivated fight this year?

Only if a bunch of people come dressed as Trump and Hilary and the other Presidents to have a Mortal Kombat style photo shoot.

Wait. That would be great. Get to it people.
>>
>>9461227

Some booths, like 5 out of the 1000, will have some raffles for rare Funko Pop figures or free sticker give away. Gotta get your free swag man.

My friend who went to SDCC won a raffle and they gave her a Suicide Squad Funko Joker SDCC exclusive. She sold that shit on ebay literally two minutes later for $300.
>>
Is anyone going to be cosplaying idolm@ster? This will be my first year at AX and I'll be all alone in a skimpy idol costume which makes me nervous
>>
>>9461420
I'll be there as Kirarin!

Speaking of idolm@ster, still stressing about sales for kawaii live soon. For people who got tickets already, how's it looking out there? I've never used their sales platform before.
>>
>>9461430
Awesome! I'm going as Mika. I'm kind of interested in seeing if I could get a group together.

I had someone with the premium pass get my ticket for me early, so I can't tell you what it's like
>>
>>9461217
I found waldo in there

Any Nier:Automata cosplayers going?
>>
>>9461217
Well thats interesting, it seems the crowd at the moment is like 98% dudes? Someone told me that AX is mostly nerd women?
>>
>>9461420
I'm probably going to cosplay kanako to kawaii live (if i don't decide to do azalea hanamaru or cyaron you for it)
I'm ready to die in a bloodbath tonight
>>
>>9461420
I'm probably doing Kirari! Or maybe Mari from Aqours?
Also interested in how the sales are going/ how many seats are left.
>>
>>9461232
Isn't there supposed to be some impeachment march passing the convention center one of the days?
>>
>>9461232
Is this a warning in disguise anon
>>
>>9461420
Are you interested in a recording session with me and my friends to make you into a real idol?
>>
>>9461232

>>

They're probably going to sell out tonight to be honest
>>

>>

Seat Selection will probably open before they completely sell out so you can monitor how many seats are left. I'd be really surprised if they sell out tonight and if they do sell out they might be able to start selling mezzanine seats since they're not currently using the full configuration of the theater.

I have Orchestra tickets in good spots in the basket but I already bought 2 Loge tickets for me and my buddy earlier in the fray. Should I just buy the orchestra tickets now and try to resell or get a refund on the loge tickets later?
>>
>>9461777
You won't get a refund and it's technically against the terms to sell them plus you'll probably have trouble selling Loge tickets if there are any tickets at all left before the show. It's a shitty situation but if you want to sit closer that's the only way.
>>
>>9461777
buy the good tickets, write off the loge tickets

they're cheaper anyway and consider it a seat upgrade fee. maybe sell for $20 each or something near the show.
>>
>best avilability had no orchestra so settled for loge
I hate this fucking system.
>>
Anyone have any tips on shipping cosplay? I want to bring my Bastion but worried about pricing/holding up in the mail. I'm in TX atm.

Pic related, it's the cosplay. It's pretty big and bulky which is why I'm concerned.
>>
>>9461808
AX claim they disabled seat selection at sale start because people complained about seats disappearing when they tried to click on them but this shitshow seat lottery is way worse. I personally didn't have any problem choosing seats right when it opened last year and got good spots everywhere.

Security will never see your kit unless it comes out and if it does come out it means shit is going down. You and your kit will be appreciated if you need to patch someone up. Even a basic bleeder kit in your bag will be good to have and won't take up a ton of room.

>>9461217
That looks like a nightmare

I'm coming from Toronto for AX, I've never been to a con in the states but my roommate does AA there so she asked me to come along to help. I'm pretty excited. Do they have a lolita teaparty or is it rlly cosplay focused?
>>
>>9462237
that nightmare is because everyone is milling around waiting for the exhibit hall to open

honestly it's almost as bad during the rest of the day too though
>>
>>9462237
the big crowd is just people waiting for the exhibit hall to open.

Pro Tip: if youre just casually trying to get in and not really trying to get in as quickly as possible to get some sort of exclusive, just go to one of the side entrances.
of course there will be lines but it wont be a huge crowd like that.

Not like any of the con goers give a shit about politics during AX. I remember seeing 4 MAGA hats(1 vendor and 3 fat dudes) during the last year's event. Everyone still bought h-doujinshi from the guy and no one was hasslnig the 3 other dudes.
>>
>>9461577
I'd rather there be a march to get rid of those religi-tards on the crosswalks.
>>
>>9463193
I love those guys, they're an essential part of the con experience. I'd rather get rid of the creepy cult guys selling books.
>>
>>9463198
The adorable Buddhists? Nah. At least they don't have megaphones and insulting everyone.

(were you being sarcastic)

In the end, I like to imagine they're all just trolly cosplayers that took their role way too far. It's the only way to get through the day.

this is what's worst about maid cafe. it's too short and the food/drink takes too long. last year they had you line up to get your own food.

at least they had maidreaming but they only did a couple of dances. those three maids that came are the top maids of their respective stores.

Speaking of the dance, I'm kind of new to dances and this might be slightly off topic...

So the only time I dance is at the AX dance. Like, ever. I'm not great or anything but I just love getting lost in the music. Maybe I'll latch onto a train or two and watch some people in the dance circles, but other wise I'm always alone. I always get a few guys asking to dance with me, and I never know how to respond. I just try to politely decline because I don't know how to dance with another person. But does it look stupid if I'm just dancing by myself? Am I practically asking for it if I'm doing that? Am I being rude by saying no? I just always prefer to dance alone, because if a random stranger comes by then suddenly it feels like I have to perform or something and I get really anxious.

Is this normal? Am I being mean? No I don't have enough common sense to know this myself haha...
>>
>>9463897

random music acts
sometimes actual music acts
>>
>>9463985
yeah fuck that line I want to know if the fakku party was worth it
>>
>>9463995
Are you giving examples of instances where this occurs? Ok then, haha. Was just worried I looked dumb dancing alone. Like I said, the AX dance is the only time I ever really dance so I don't know what the norm really is. And I don't go to bars.
>>
>>9464004
are you >>9463987? i was answering the question of lounge 21, unless you're that person too. that and the dance are two different things unless there's actually something danceable being played at the time or maybe a scheduled show (ie teddyloid)
>>
>>9463987
No it's never weird dancing by yourself. What's weird is when your self-conscious, you're dancing, and you're looking around all the time as if someone is going to suddenly point at you and say, "HEY! THAT KID IS DANCING BY THEMSELVES!"

Just have a good time. If someone turns me down to dance that's fine, just there to have fun. Sometimes you will have to be rude though, some people there are really weird and pushy.
>>
>>9463987
>I always get a few guys asking to dance with me
Are you at a ball or something?
>>
>>9463987
Honestly just turn them down and do your own thing. They're guaranteed to be thirsty and one ruined the dance for me my first AX by trying to french kiss me out of nowhere while I had a boyfriend at the time. Now I do my own thing and ignore everyone. If you're by the stage people leave you alone.

Should I even go this year?
I missed out on buying the 4-day pass for 70 and now it's 80 dollarydoos and my poorfag ass just spent money on grad applications and transcripts.

Honestly, I have not gone in 9 years but since I'm going to move out of state for grad school I almost want to go and do everything this time instead of lounge around the convention for 1 day.

That's such an impossible number for me. Once I get inside that Marukai Market, I end up buying all sorts of food. Plus I always end up eating at that revolving sushi bar (I forgot the name).

^ this. I mean this is pretty standard advice for any sort of spending. Don't do it unless you really need to. Look for rare things or things you MUST have, but if it's something you can get online or back home easily, just avoid it.

For example, I never buy manga or DVDs at AX because I can just get that online any time for much cheaper. Plushies, SOME figurines, wall scrolls, accessories...just get that all online. Artist Alley stuff, rare figurines, and stuff online that MAY SOMEHOW be cheaper at AX, go ahead and buy that at the con. It'll also be less annoying carrying around less bags. It's just common sense.

But I guess it also depends on whether you like to collect things or not and what exactly you collect. I can imagine if you're a huge Nenderoid fan or you buy things from that one stand that sells the steampunk stuff made of leather, you can rack up quite a hefty sum pretty quickly with only 1 or 2 things.
>>
>>9465236
???
I buy gundam models all the time at AX. i mostly save anywhere between $20-60 because I dont have to pay for shipping if i buy the same model online.
>>
>>9465229
I spent $70 at Little Tokyo last year and didn't have time to eat some of the grocieres I bought so it ended up expiring, that is one of the reasons I'm cutting down on that, 90% of the Little Tokyo budget pretty much goes straight to the bakeries anyways.

The restaurants I might eat at are spent on the food budget.
>>
>>9465270
Ah, I don't blame you. I just try to eat all the perishable shit during the con asap. Damn I love those bakeries. I got green tea bread last year and it was pretty good. Nothing special but it did satiate my hunger in the mornings.

Last year was the first year of four I actually went to any parties outside of the AX dance, it was a great time and I met a ton of cool likeminded autists, though I was tagging along with someone that wont be with me this year, how do you guys find the parties and drinking spots without being the guy that just asks everyone "wheres the party at bro"??

also I hope my friend doesn't hear about the rally going on this year, he is always terrified of some big event happening there for some reason.

Every fucking year I have stupid ass nightmares once it gets closer to AX. It happens like 3~ months prior to AX and it's been going on for like 10+ years. They all consist of me going to AX and having something horrible happen, such as:

>forgetting cosplays
>friends ditching me
>con turning into a garage sale
>missing important events
>having a shitty time overall

It's usually cosplay related because my outfits are always shit. I realized that it also has to do with how much I procrastinate making them. If I finish my cosplays ASAP, maybe the nightmares will stop? I never quite know what to be at AX until it draws closer due to discovering new anime so it's not like I can plan my cosplays as soon as the previous AX ends or anything. I just finished my Megumin cosplay recently because season 2 ended.

Sorry this was just kinda me whining.

No anon, that's fetishizing gay people! Cishets aren't allowed to find pretty boys attractive because that's trivialising homosexual relationships! Also you better make sure that pretty boy isn't younger than 18 because then we'll call the police on you for pedophillia!!

So I realize there's a 99 percent chance this guy is trolling for (You)s, but I really hope the mods don't ignore this post and at least attempt to contact police. Obviously there's not much they can do if they can't get his IP (I'm assuming he's using a proxy or something of the sort), but making sure law enforcement is notified is definitely helpful, especially since they would probably in turn contact AX so the staffers can at least be aware/tell security to be extra vigilant.

And before people tell me I'm being dramatic, let's not forget that there have been multiple confirmed cases of shooters posting about it beforehand on 4chan. You guys can meme it up all you want, but this isn't something to joke about.

I didn't realize there were day 0 things going on. I mean I knew it existed but I didn't realize it had so much to offer. It sounds like a mini AX before actual AX. It's like $20. Do you think it's worth it? Has anyone ever gone?

It's not until 6pm and I'm usually out eating dinner with my friends in Little Tokyo. But once we get back I'm usually too excited to do anything and everyone is knocking out already. While day 0 is usually our "figure shit out/get your shit together" time, I wouldn't mind stopping by at the con at like 10pm and see what's up. An extra day of AX sounds great, even though it'll be watered down.
>>
>>9472577
Nah. I mean at first when you get into that day 0 line and you see the number of people with chairs, you think "wow what fucking weebs. Like get a life." And then as the hours tick by and your feet and legs hurt and you're sweating, you're looking at those relaxed motherfuckers with their chair and their manga and/or umbrellas and you just think "clever faggots."

In all honesty though, staff has been keeping people from sitting in chairs. It might depend on when you get there, but the line seems to only last like 2-3 hours now. They actually improved registration. I tend to get there around 10am - 11am, however. So it could just be me.

>>
>>9473322
They went private on twitter and are no longer tabling at AX, though it's not clear whether AX pushed them to do so or they left willingly.

The whole thing was initially about the artist's ill-advised comments about bi people faking their bisexuality (she later apologized by saying she's not mentally well -- a somewhat weak justification but nevertheless) which made the rounds on twitter and were criticized for being biphobic... it was later that the ex-volunteer and others also latched onto her art as an issue.

>>

It depends on what anime/fandom/game/whatever. If it's a really obscure and kinda "underground" anime, don't expect to see a lot of great cosplayers. If it's popular, then there'll be more people and more of a chance you'll see some great cosplays (unless the fandom is shit). Some things just always have impressive cosplays, however, like Pokemon or League of Legends.

So it all really depends on what you want to see. If you see a good amount of awesome cosplayers from a series you enjoy and know there's a gathering for it, ask them if they're going. If most of them say yes, then you know that it should be decent (or you found the only good ones in the bunch).

Just booked at the Mayfair, and I'm sure there are cheaper places to park than using the valet services. Anyone know a nearby lot or garage I could park at and walk to?

Food places pretty much, but it WILL be ridiculously packed and expect long wait times. Kula Sushi (revolving sushi), Curry House, Poke Express, Daikokuya, My Ramen Bar, and Shin-sen-gumi are my recommendations. Anyone who recommends Orochon Ramen has shit taste. Marukai and Nijiya also have much cheaper food options but as far as I know they either overestimate or underestimate their bento amount, the earlier the better. There are 2 matcha cafes that opened within the past year in Little Tokyo, Midori Matcha and Tea Master, but those two places are already ridiculously packed to begin with because people only go there for matcha soft serve as opposed to drinks (which IMO are much better than soft serve). There's also the Little Tokyo Galleria but that's further away from the Japanese Village Plaza/Weller Court and closer to Skid Row, but the plus side is they have a ton of parking usually.

Yamazaki Bakery is also your best bet for sweets and pastries. Marukai (which carries some Yamazaki products) and Nijiya tend to sell out very quick, not to mention Yamazaki has a larger variety.

Stores/merch-wise, Anime Jungle and Tokyo Lifestyle in the Japanese Village Plaza are your best bet. Inb4 Jungle has a booth at AX, the store actually carries more merch than the booth, and I would recommend going there if you're looking for something specific / hard to findthat you can't find at AX because it's more packed than it usually is on weekends. Tokyo Lifestyle has some pretty nifty stuff, but it's hit or miss as some items are either cheaper or more expensive than the Exhibit Hall. AVOID Kimono Ya in Weller Court (1st floor near Marukai) because their merch is comprised of mainly bootlegs / fakes, unless that doesn't bother you. There's a reason locals refer to it as "that bootleg anime store" or "Bootleg Anime Jungle."
>>
>>9466722
Arthur Nakane is a goddamn legend, he's loved by locals and visitors. There was a documentary about him and he was on America's Got Talent a few years back but he injured himself about 4 years ago so his one-man band act is pretty limited. No guarantee he'll be there during AX weekend, I hear he splits his time in Santa Monica. He's a really sweet guy though and sets up in the Japanese Village Plaza in front of Nijiya / Yamazaki Bakery.

>>9466858
Orochon is by far the worst ramen in Little Tokyo. Their broth is bland as fuck and the noodles taste like they ran down to Marukai to get them and didn't bother cooking them properly. I'd recommend Mr. Ramen over Orochon in a heartbeat.

>>9473829
There wasn't a shooting, just some mentally unstable dude who went into a gift shop in the Village Plaza, and took someone hostage with a sword. They shut down that entire block on Day 3 I think, I used to work in the area and my coworkers were right where it happened.
>>
>>9478805
Parkopedia. Prepay online is usually cheaper than their posted rates. You may or may not have an attendant so park at your own risk
>>
>>9478076

As a Downtown LA native man I suggest you look into seeing if you can score an Uber flat rate package, the thing is they are a fucking pain in the ass to get but once you get one holy shit are they useful for moving around LA cheap

You can go anywhere in the General LA area for a flat $3 for a pool and $6 flat for an UberX ride from Downtown LA to Santa Monica/West Covina/ Almost Disneyland/ with up to 2-4 people for $3/6

For AX that shit for me is a godsend since instead of buying food onsite, I got the option of heading out from the Con and getting back for $6 or since im going with a group just giving the cash to one guy and have him bring the food back to us.

Parking is gonna be a pain, cost more than the uber ride, plus if I wanna drink its an option as opposed to hoping I got a DD or risk driving my ass home.

Plus seeing how alot of folk on here are out of towners it's more user friendly than trying to figure out which taxi's are legit and dealing with renting a car.

ABC Seafood in Chinatown - They got a full sized plate of Rice/Chowmein + 2 Sides for $5 flat

El Taurino near MacArthur Park - Fucking tasty ass burritos and tacos, for $6 and $1.25 each, drinks are a pain since you have to pay per-refill and the starting price for a small drink I think is like $2, PROTIP: Get the Red salsa, green salsa is for kids and the elderly

Not far from the Convention Center via an Uber and the food is cheap and good
>>
>>9478076
I live in East LA and there's some pretty good stuff out here if you're willing to drive that way. Chroni's on Whittier has some bretty gud chili cheese dogs and fries if you feel like pigging out, there's also this place near Beverly and Atlantic called Fish Taco Express that has some really good shrimp/fish burritos. If you want something more like an actual restaurant, Clifton's on Broadway is good, so are some of the places in Grand Central Market on Broadway
>>
>>9480009

mebe coulda agree to let him do some "work" to make the difference to stay at a better hotel...bag boy, food runner, etc...
>>
>>9481832
He has like 2 jobs but is saving up for his own place. I don't know if that means he has a set amount he refuses to touch or he's paying so many bills that spending X amount at AX would put him in the deficit.

Right after this AX ends, I'm going to book a decent hotel that I can afford and if anyone wants to join, they can. None of us want to room alone but god dammit I'll room with strangers at this point.

That was my original plan this year since at first only he and I could go out of all my friends, but now more tagged along and I ended up having to try to accommodate several people.

I dunno. Just chalk it up to me being a cuck.

couldn't get a room for the AX hotel block so ended up booking at the Miyako. how hard is it to sneak 1 or 2 people into your room for two nights? this is my first time getting a hotel so i'm sorry if this seems extremely dumb. and before you ask no i'm not room stuffing, there were only 2 of us to begin with in the room.
>>
>>9483624
Why would you need to sneak people in? The hotel allows 2 guests per room. And Miyako is hard to sneak in people since their lobby is literally the size of a studio and the front door is right there.
>>
>>9483633
there are only 2 people booked to the room and 2 more people are planning on staying with me for 2 nights. so it'll be 4 people in the room total. the room has 2 beds so it's not like it won't work but the problem lies in the fact that the other two are not booked to the room.
>>
>>9483651
Then I would sneak them in really late, that hotel is notorious for being difficult
>>
>>9480009
Tacos are more expensive now. It's cheaper to buy tacos at the new Mexican place on 7th and Alvarado

I am so fucking angry. I really want to go but I've committed myself to working that very night on some other event. Commitments suck ass but gotta build that credibility. That other thing better go well or else I'm going to regret not going to my dream concert and be miserable the whole damn time.

Have fun, everyone else and I hope that they will come back to play and I can go.
>>
>>9484251
I'm very dishearten to see that its a whole different and disconnected venue and event. They must not have been able to work out a deal or it just wasnt possible for them or in the cards at the start to be a part of anisong.

This is just like when X Japan came to play at the same time as AX a few years back. Last minute and fighting for same audience.
>>
>>9484256
You do realize non-Anime fans like music too?
>>
>>9484258
Yes my bad, I think I mean audience that's like the lowest hanging fruit.
>>
>>9484266
The problem with Anisong is look at tickets sold and price of tickets vs the sheer number of artists performing, and consider cost of each artist travel and everything. Very little profit sadly at AX for them.
>>
>>9484274
Exactly. I cant even justify it to myself to be irrationally angry at anyone other than the situation that theres logical and business reasons behind these decisions.

I guess i have to settle for being happy that I will be in the same city as them and for the friends and fans that can go and will.

>>

Not all of them are scalpers but some definitely try to work things to their advantage.

>>9484256
Teragram isn't that far away. The hotels are actually farther from the LACC than the concert venue will be. With AX's event timeslots being consumed by Day 0 Anisong, Day 1 Anisong, Day 2 EDM, Day 3 Masq (lol) there's not much leeway to work with anyway. The tickets are cheap too.
>>
>>9484429
>some definitely try to work things to their advantage.
I worked with someone in the past whom bragged that she was able to rent out this home for about 1600/month then she went off and listed the spare rooms as studios at 800ea (believe she had 3 or 4 ppl). Think she got caught/busted or something cuz after several months she suddenly quit and left the state lol.

we stay at the miyako every year (we love being next to LT) it's not difficult at all, just walk on in casually and nobody cares or says anything.
It's only when you check in that you should have the same amount of people you booked the room for.
For us (since we usually have 5) The two who booked it under their name go in first (2), then the rest of us (3) just go to the room 5ish minutes later, guess it looks less suspicious if its not a big group going up all at once?

Although sometimes we all sort of do just go down altogether as a group but again nobody says anything, Miyakos p chill for being so small
