>>9431914
I actually love full sets, I don't see what's wrong with sticking to a brand's vision of what looks best with the dress. I enjoy creative coords as well but it's not like full sets are bad.
This is the kind of lolita I like. I can see myself actually wearing this and wearing it long term. Is it really that boring?
>>9432045
Compared to what's popular today you can say it's boring in its simplicity. I love it though, and plenty more people do as well. It won't get you many likes on social media but it's very nice for daily wear.
Requesting instagrams of people who wear lolita in this style. I'm tired of OTT in my feed and this makes me happy.
I love these kinds of coords. Perfectly coordinated elaborate outfits may look great at your local con or meet or in a CoF post, but this style is actually wearable.
This looks like my daily outfits, even if mine are usually a bit more coordinated than some of these. But it's more comfy and easy to wear in daily life that ott vomit and in my opinion this is the truly "street fashion" aspect of lolita.

>>9432237
Though OP's instructions are contradictory, someone can't be wearing a "full set" without legwear or headwear, and socks and a headbow aren't OTT, they're basic staples of Lolita.
People who hate OTT coordinates need to get the stick out of their ass and stop whining about OTT coords being more popular/getting more attention. Just wear what you want, who cares about online feedback?

This, otome is something made up by lolitas in the west to distinguish between what they consider "proper" (COF likes-worthy) lolita and more wearable styles that are more playful and less restrictive. In Japan it all blends together more. Misako calls the more wearable style soft lolita, but the brands themselves don't always feel comfortable associating with the word lolita because of the stigma against it.
If OP wants to see comfy lolita with natural hair that isn't coordinated to the hilt, posting "otome" is going to be inevitable.

>>9432593
Western Lolita's used the term Otome way before CoF was a thing. The daily otome community on livejournal was made in 2010. I can find posts about it on egl as far back as 2008.
It wasn't made because of OTT Lolita superiority, the term was coined to reference coordinate made from brands like Jane Marple and Emily Temple Cute that weren't really in the Lolita aesthetic, and because JM didn't consider itself a Lolita brand.

This is true, but it's not really how otome is used nowadays. Otome was also used in Japan, both to describe girly fashion and lolita fashion, but nowadays they seem to use it for the RPG games.

>>9432839
Confirming this is MM St Clair, VM's Classical Doll has an extra layer of lace on the bottom of the skirt and utilizes a waist belt that encircles front and back as opposed to back waist ties like MM. Also VM's neck accessory is a separate jabot that has the ribbon pinned to it while MM's is just a ribbon on its own.
For those of us with arms that are bigger than a noodle, VM is a much easier dress to wear because the sleeve width on the MM version is tiny.
Also I love the shit out of this thread, everything's how I want to live in lolita.
This is one of my favorite threads ever on cgl, thank you so much for all this inspiration anons!

ntayrt, but the "feeling" of this outfit is really busy, although strictly speaking they aren't OTT. These outfits don't feel like they were thrown on quickly. The printed tights, large headbows and accessories (it looks they all have a bracelet and necklace on) make the outfits seem too busy to fit OP's criteria. Nothing wrong these coords but I wouldn't call them basic or casual.

>>9433914
basically what >>9433913 said like the girl on the left here >>9432974 has open toe shoes but because they're cute and her toes aren't noticeable it's not as bad as the other two
in the first one the toes are distracting imo and both coords just don't look as good as they would with closed toe shoes. both of them have the wrong style to match lolita
>>9433926
I love the coord but the hair is so ugly
>>9432287
Not very good? The point of the thread is basic coords. This is a basic coord where everything matches. It doesn't go above and beyond with creativity, it just looks nice and is wearable. That's the point of this thread.
>>9433288
Summer came very soon this year I guess~
I think OTT lolita is not as popular as we think. It may seem that way because when you go to an event, most people are dressed pretty OTT. But whenever there is a favourite coords thread, OTT is not the majority.
However, I also think people are less likely to buy solid dresses from a brand directly, they feel like if they're going to spend so much on a dress it better be a popular print or you could just get it secondhand for cheaper. Maybe that's why Baby, AP and taobao focus much more on prints than cuts.
>>9433973
>people are less likely to buy solid dresses from a brand directly
Depends on whom you ask. IW's solids are very popular for daily wear and can be difficult to find secondhand because girls tend to hold on to them. I've bought and reserved solid dresses from IW in the past because I'd rather not take the risk of not finding them secondhand later. Never regretted it, either.
>>9433982
This oh so much. IW have a lot of versatility to their pieces, and can be worn in different styles, as well as being dressed upmore or down. I've mixed bits of IW into workwear in the past, such as a very simple, non-print skirt with only a small amount of lace on it and received nothing but compliments on it. I've also reserved stuff from them as soon as the reservations have gone up and never regretted the purchases, even when I've seen the item go into the sale later on. IW pieces wash well, and even with more delicate fabrics such as the pearskiin they sometimes have used has a robustness to it it feels.
>>9433973
I'm sad about this. There's barely any prints I like and it's nigh impossible to find a specific non-print dress secondhand. I think people cycle through prints a lot more than they do solid pieces, since solid pieces are easier to wear/match to your wardrobe and also less attention grabbing to normies but they probably do sell less in total.
>>9433973
I'll be honest, that's my exact thought process. Solids go for reeeally cheap since sellers know/think they won't sell as fast as prints and paying retail for a solid piece doesn't seem "worth it" when I can get something more detailed and decorated for about the same price. I feel the same way about patterns even though I love them and solids.
>>9434298
dropped pic - _ -
>>9434301
>>9432036
I think full sets get a kind of bad rap (?) in places like daily Lolita or CoF, they're places to share your creativity and can come off as showing off your full set, or a lack of creativity? I don't think anyone sees anything wrong with wearing the full set. it's like a trophy and is guaranteed to look good... but maybe not very creative, and that's where the stigma comes
>>9434396
CoF initially is not to show off creative coords tough, just any lolita coords. But now when you look at it it's mainly what people wore to a meet or event. However all the "creativity" actually makes it feel boring to me and it feels refreshing when someone posts a basic coord or full set.
At daily lolita, people normally posted several coords at once, so you could see what they wore to meets as well as what they normally wear.
>>9433973
This is true for me, as well as the fact that I'm into sewing and keep thinking that "oh, I can make something like that myself" but I never actually do! I don't really have the time or energy to churn out nice solid lolita pieces but the concept that I'd technically be able to, makes it much harder to justify paying ~$180 for a dress like that. I need to get over myself and start throwing more money at IW desu
>>9433814
Ahh, I see now. I get it, thanks for clarifying!
>>9432976
Just a heads up, but this piece is actually quite wanted by many Moitie loving Lolitas, so it could be hard to aquire.
I lost an auction for this about 1~2 years ago, it went over 30k (yen).
So if you are serious about this dress, I suggest you save up.
>>9433973
I can say this was definitely my logic when buying dresses from 2008-2013. I regret it now because I have no solid pieces and my wardrobe is only sweet prints.

I prefer this kind of lolita because it's actually a somewhat practical daily fashion. Lolita has gotten so OTT that it's not really functional as a fashion style, despite wearers' aggressive insistence that it's fashion.
>>9441655
Do you wear this? When are people aggressive to you about not seeing it as a fashion? On CoF people are more inclined to post what they wore to a meet or event and usually don't post their daily coords, and we end up having to defend ourselves to people who only see OTT.
>>9441254
I love skirts like this so much. They're so inherently lolita and recognisable as lolita no matter how you style them. They're so simple, but I've never seen anything like them in any other kind of fashion. Plus they're really easy to make!
