I'll start.

I've been working on this Dr. Fate helmet for almost 2 years on and off, and after 2 failed molds, a few failed casts, and several resizings later I've finally got it to fit. A lot of work left to be done, but I finally feel like I've gotten somewhere.

Instead of cropping, please enjoy my shitty edit so you can't see my desk.

Been working on the Stug from Girls und Panzer. All the decals and markings have been made and applied. All that remains is to finish the flags, add the tracks and do some light weathering.

was it seriously that hard to move the left and right side to crop the image? seems like it took more work to paint over your desk.

i can see why that helmet took you nearly 2 years then...

Im Almost done wirh my Raidou Kuzunoha cosplay for Sakura

My smartphone camera is hot garbage but I am very happy with the construction of the cape specifically!

Eh. It's a habit to blur out any personal effects, the blurred out area just kept growing larger, and it wasn't until after I was done it became obvious a crop would have sufficed.
Either way, I'd like to see you do better.

Not a lot of actual progress yet since I'm still dicking around with patterns for the dress, but I did do some burn out velvet tests to see if it'd work for the front and back "cutout" sections and it looks like it'll work quite nicely. I'm still in awe of how easy it was and how clean an image you can get (I was worried the edges would be a bit too raggedy and irregular for it to look nice).

I just bought the Vouge cape pattern (V8959) and modified the collar to better suit my needs. I also made welted hand holes to be more accurate to the character design and it turned out wonderful!

I'm glad to not disappoint! Raidou is my favorite character design ever and I finally feel comfortable enough with my skill level to make his costume and be proud of it! Here is some pics of the cape that I took with my camera, because again, the smart phone pics don't actually convey how happy I am with the results!

Stencil + fiber etch and an iron. The fabric has to be made of different fibers though so it won't work on just any velvet. Fiber etch eats cellulose based fibers, so the fabric here has a rayon pile with a silk backing (so it only eats the rayon). I found conflicting information on whether to apply the gel to the front or the back of the velvet, the instructions say to do the right side, but I found some other stuff suggesting to to it from the back and that made more sense to me. You get a clean full-depth burn and it doesn't require as much of the gel since you're just breaking the loop on the backing rather than trying to dissolve the entire fiber. It's also a lot easier to apply a stencil to the back.

Anyway it's surprisingly easy and not that expensive. You can do it on satins and a few other fabrics if they have the right blend. The other cool thing I read about (though not applicable to this project) is you can use the mixed fiber types to dye the backing and the surface different colors easily. Seems like it could be useful for a decent variety of applications in cosplay.

Is it looked down upon much to buy portions of your outfit and making props/accessories for it? The main body portion I feel is above my skill level to make, but the boots, wig, props are doable.

I am working on a Monk cosplay from Final Fantasy 14. I finished constructing the pauldrons, and I am starting to work on the headpiece next. Eventually, I will need to learn how to sew so I can get that outnof the way. May get some scraps of fabric to practice with.

Should probably start that shirt over. The sleeves could do with more support in how they're attached to the bodice. You can do a line of bias around the top as a casing for elastic, it'll gather the shirt some but you can hide that with the 'collar' part over the top.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I need to make her bustle, figure out a way to attach the ruff to the vest better, and touch up the wand (I bought it from some eBay Chinese propmaker and it's fantastic, but I want to paint the gold parts to match the golds in the rest of the outfit). But I'm excited to have enough done that it looks like Rita.
