Read the document first before asking basic questions that have been answered time and time again like "is making a bag for ___ ok?" and "where do i get the heart bags??".

Any gulls have plans for either of the holographic WEGO bags yet? I'm a huge sucker for holographic stuff so I've really been trying to decide what I could make a bag for to fit it. So far I'm thinking either Fullmetal Alchemist or Space Patrol Luluco, but I'm still pretty undecided.

Anon that asking about the Zakkamart fake leather bags, my roomie was a champ and signed for them when I was out.

Anyway, the PVC is pretty nice and soft. It doesn't have the tacky feel that cheap PVC has. The insert thing is canvas but is slighty wrinkle prone. The inside is a pretty good size too, I can fit my laptop and a couple of essential in there. I wouldn't put more than two pounds in stuff in it though bc of the nature of the PVC. My only gripe is that the top zips close so if you want to use the longer strap, you have to tuck the handle staps behind the bag. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with them.
>>
>>9414901
i am the anon! Thanks for this. How does the insert work? is it through velcro in a front pocket and does that mean it is not completely dust/waterproof under a light rain given the nature of the insert? (unlike the usual backpacks where they're all under a zip.
>>
>>9414398
>>9414431
Uh I think they meant where I got the bag from since I'd hope the huge Vegeta on it would make it obviously Dragon Ball. The bag is from WEGO. It's actually a lot deeper than I expected and can fit some decently sized plushes. http://zozo.jp/shop/wego/goods/15976183/?did=33461131

>>9414362
I would consider it if, um, anyone made any merch of anything that wasn't Dr Slump or Dragon Ball. I like to only use official merchandise... There is a little of Galactic Patrolman Jaco that I've been meaning to get though (although that may as well be Dragon Ball at this point).

Would you guys say that ita-bagging is still decently 'in'? I've noticed this has stayed around a lot longer than some other things that have come and gone on /cgl/, so I thought it would be an interesting thing to bring up.
Personally, I hope it stays around for a lot longer, but... you know how things like this can be.
>>
>>9415596
dedicated/nonbandwagoners will keep going, although may become quieter if they have 'completed' their bag.
>>
>>9415596
I'm currently staying in Japan for a few months and have personally seen fandom bags EVERYWHERE. I was actually really surprised by how common they are. Granted I've mostly seen them being worn by young people, but Wego (and honestly it seems like a few other stores!) Have entire sections dedicated to things to stuff into window bags. It's still super trendy here right now. Makes me wish I had brought the one I'm working on with me.
>>
I've been thinking of making an itabag using one of those Japanese school bags (the ones that protags usually hang over their shoulders) cause it matches a character I want to do, but I feel like it would look terribad if I made a clear bag to go over it. Has anyone tried it yet?
>>
>>9414482
>Some more unconventional subject in this one. I'm kinda salty WEGO discontinued these backpacks.

I want to make a guide for this sort of thing when I'm out of school and have time. Don't underestimate the power of diy/custom merch anons! I'll elaborate more later, but there's a handful of links to custom printing stuff in the FAQ, plus other methods discussed in past threads. And here's an example of something I made for my husbando bag on shutterfly.
>>
>>9415629
You could always forgo the plastic cover if you have other ways to secure/protect your merch. I've seen people stitch things to their bags, glue buttons/ballchains shut, and things like that. There are also button and strap covers from protecting stuff.

>>9414715
>>9415635
>calling base bags itabags
C'mon guys, I thought we knew better than this.
>>
>>9414977
The insert is a flap that's attached to the top of the bag that you tuck into the front pocket. Idk if you can see it that well but in the first pic of the collage, you can see what I mean. Like you said, it's not completely waterproof but the velcro seems sturdy enough to keep out dust. It's a little tricky to work with at first but it's way easier that working with the bags that have the zip over clear covers imo

>>9415596
Even if it goes out of fashion for the bandwagon people, people who are dedicated will keep at it, myself included. I brought keychains and made balls of them to attach to bags way before this with an old friend, so I'm happy now there's now bags to safely hang them on haha.

Waiting on two T&B figures from eBay secondhand auctions right now. I need to check surugaya again for new stuff but I've already got a dozen listings on my wishlist.
>>
>>9417005
I reached this point a long time ago. Since one of my bags is pretty much all fan merch (minor Fire Emblem character) it's all one-charm artist alley preorders, and I lose track over the months. I honestly don't know how many or from whom I'm waiting on.

Go for it anon. A small bag would work since I'm sure the vast majority of his merch is still for part 3. I'd love to see an exclusively 4taro bag with OTT sealife decorations everywhere.
>>
I kind of really want to make an itbag dedicated to my OTP but it's a hetero ship rather than homo and I haven't seen any for hetero ships? Like... the itabag community has a lot of fujoshis, so it kinda feels weird to have a hetero otp I guess
>>
>>9417848
Who's your OTP, anon?
>>
>>9417848
thats quitter talk anon, you have to be hardcore like a fujoshi is for your otp
>>
I have been seeing online mostly on instagrm that some people are selling "itabag starter kits" where you pick a base bag then ask for what character you want and amount you want to spend on the merch which is all randomly picked.

Idk why this irks me the wrong way because it's taking out all of the fun of making your own itabag. What are your opinions on "starter kits"? Do you guys think it's good or takes the fun out?
>>
>>9417848
Seen a few hetero ships, mainly Mystic Messenger/other otome games, so I don't find it weird. Just not many do it.

>>9417866
To me, the starter kits are just blind boxes, but only of the one character/series you like, so I find them fun in a way since you'll only be getting goods of your waifu/husbando. I can see why you feel the way you do though, since part of the fun of itabagging is hunting down that merch you love, not just having it handed to you.
>>
>>9417848
I'd make an OTP bag but my OTP features a customizable character so I'm fucked. I'd do custom merch but I'd feel really awkward having a bag full of so many self-drawn items that feature a character that could be mistaken for a self-insert.

Fujos are just on a whole a lot more vocal and have more marketing power, so while gay fandom love is more prominent, there's no reason why hetero ships can't be displayed in an ita bag.
>>
>>9417866
I think it takes the fun out of it and also a bit of the meaning. All the merch on my bags is merch I would have purchased anyway to support the series, I itabag to have a way to not only display it but to show I love the characters and series enough to support it. I kind of find purchasing stuff just for itabags that you wouldn't have gotten any way not in the spirit in the first place and then having someone pick for you is even less in the spirit.

Absolutely. I've been begging my waifu Beatrice to show me her smile again for the past seven years.
All I own is a rubber charm, the official plushie and the daki that came with the PS3 port. There's nothing else out there except for the small super deformed figure or the creepy dollfie. Even fucking Jessica got a figure while Beato got shafted. Thank you studio Deen.
At this point I might as well start a ritual sacrificing my family members to summon that sweet Beato merch into existence.
>>
>>9417848
Just go for it, anon. Itabagging is about doing what you like and just because you haven't seen any other examples doesn't mean it can't be done. (het ship bags are definitely out there though, they're just less common because many itabaggers are also fujoshi)

I don't have the bag yet but I've been practicing my layout now that I have most of the merch. I know I'll definitely have to space everything on the left out a little more, and find something for the gap on the right, but overall I like it for a first try.

I was thinking of using the white heart bag, but would it clash too much with the black badges? Not sure what color I'll go with for the backing yet if it matters.

Pardon my salt, but holy shit I'm so tired of the scalping that happens in this group. I haven't checked any other sites, but when these were up on Amiami they were 810 yen each. Even after airmail they probably would've been around 15 dollars. I think this would look pretty great! The white bag I think would have the girls designs blend in rather than clash. You could always put some contrasting material to make the charms stand out?
Don't forget a beer keychain anon.
>>
This is why I love yoi itabags.
I love the idea of designing the bag to look like their costumes! If Viktor's merch wasn't so damn expensive I'd make a Stammi Vicino themed bag myself!
>>
>>9418787
Thank you! I think I'll go with the white then, I was looking between that and the pastel pink. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate more of Yukari's eye-gap so I might try to find a way to use it as the pattern. I'm also hoping to find more matching merch later down the line and find more to add to the outside of the bag.

Also duly noted about the keychain.

Really cute but the way the vinyl pocket is accessed will make it a pain to add and arrange things, imo.

The bag is cool, but the insides are not too solid. I think it would be a 10/10 if it was just Eros merch on the inside, arranged in a more pleasing manner.

Anons, I need some help. I've been thinking that it's time to step up from WEGO heart/open window bags to an actual large tote with a clear cover. However, I'm not sure what size to go for.

I like the look of the UtaPri bags (with the grommets for straps), and Rakuten has solid color ones in that style, but they're only A4 size which I fear is not going to be big enough for my plans. I don't really like the style of A3 Salus or Zakkamart bags (i.e., the tote's straps slipping through the clear cover) but the dimensions seem nice.

For tote-carrying anons, what size do you prefer? Is it worth sacrificing a few inches of size in order to get the style I want? I'm hoping they just seem small because I don't physically have one to look at.

Pic related is my current bag (small size WEGO window tote), and I've got at least double that amount of merch in multiples waiting for a new base bag, plus more on the way.

I don't have a huge tote, but most sites selling them will list the dimensions, plus A4 and A3 are standard paper sizes used outside the US. I think a4 is fairly close to 8.5x11, and I dunno what a3 is.

Anyway, I don't know if anyone remembers me being neurotic about trying to match a certain robot's red-orange color, but I finally made a trip out to Joanns and found a near-perfect match that I was happy to settle on. The only way I could've been happier was if it were a tad bit brighter, or if it was less expensive. I'm reeeally happy I won't have to dye my own fabric, and now I've got everything for my custom base bag aside from the interfacing and zippers/hardware. Now I just have to wait a couple of months for school to end so I can get back to a sewing machine.

slightly off topic, but Im really loving how everybody is finding new ways to display their merch nowadays, I remember back then people just had their rubber straps and other merch on their keys, and everything always got dirty

That's my bag! I bought it because I really liked how it looked in this photo. You can grasp an idea of it's size too. It's 23x26cm approx. About the flap, I guess it depends on how you make it work. I am finally caving and buying a new base bag, because much as I have always loved this bag (it is very big on the inside & has inner pockets) I am officially out of room. I prefer more organized bags, and right now I barely have enough space to pin together for that huge-overlapping-pile aesthetic.
>>
>>9419926
Could you explain to me what's the deal with bubble mailer hell? I don0t understand what's that
>>

Bubble mailers are those envelopes in the pic, they come with bubblewrap already inside, hence the name. They're talking about how many of those they've got to stuff and send.
>>
>>9419839
Any package worth over $800 will be assessed for customs duties in the US. I always have to undervalue my group order packages for this reason.
>>
>>9419023

>>9419442
God I have so many different packages coming from so many different places. I joined an Otamart/Luxas order with a group of friends and have quite a hefty amount of merch coming from there. I'm getting another large package from my angel of a friend who lives in Japan and acts as my forwarding agent that contains my base bag and a large Surugaya and Animate order. I have third package coming from Tenso since said friend was going out of town at the time so I decided to ship it separately. I have three separate FromJapan packages coming in for a few random orders. And lastly I have a really large order coming from Amiami, although a small amount is for box splits.

I'll be joining you gulls in bubble mail hell.

i kind of agree, if only in that i can't really relate liking something so general to the obsessive love of a character that inspired itabags.

But I also like the food-itabag a lot and think it's really cute even outside of an itabag context.

I suppose we've already had that discussion last thread though, when a bag is more for the sake of having an 'itabag' than anything else
>>
>>9421939
- Sort of adding on, no hate to the anons but it does feel recently like people are trying to make the most 'random' or 'unexpected' itabag for the lulz and asspats. The Goldblum bag was novel, but some touch too close to trying too hard to impress other people rather than being for the bag maker themself.

i think that cryptids are totally in the spirit of an itabag - you can passionately love that; it's specific enough that someone could reasonably have an obsession large enough to spend the time and money making an ita bag of it. kaiju, cryptids, maybe even specific animals or dinosaurs, that all seems reasonable. perhaps i'm biased, though.

a general food ita bag, on the other hand, does not seem like a real obsessive love, and more like something made just to be unique and get lots of attention. it's just plain silly.

I kinda agree with you there, however I'd still rather see bags like that food bag than people's assorted con merch collections in a heart backpack trying to be passed off as itabags. Unlike those, the anon with the food bag seems to have put some effort into getting merch with a similar feel and arranging it nicely.

Plus, I'd say a bag centered on a certain type/subset of food could still fit the spirit.

I currently have two different bags with two different OTPs. One is semi finished since I have a shit ton more merch coming in that's gonna require a second bag, and the other one is a long term one since the fandom is a bit older and merch is slowly coming back with it's recent anniversary celebration.

I'm gonna take a break from this hobby for a while though. My recent adventures in proxy buying has left an sizable hole on my wallet

My main bag I've been working on is a Getter Robo bag, with a bit of my husbando bag on the side since he's from that series. I'm making a custom base for the former and ad a successful fabric haul for it last weekend which I already posted about here >>9419017. I'm still debating whether or not I want to share base bags between the two, ie have two backing boards of merch which I swap out. I'm also not sure whether I want to make some custom fabric for the getter bag or use another fabric I found that I really like. Maybe I'll ask here later. For now progress on this one is just waiting on merch to arrive since I don't have a sewing machine atm. I'm also going to make some felt things for one sometime soon.

As for other bags, which are mostly on hold, I've got a Patlabor bag I've started that has a base bag but very little merch, and 2 small, expanding merch collections for a couple of characters I'm going to put on a pouch I'm going to make since they share a color. I've also got all of the pokemon merch I've accumulated over the years. I've been thinking about making a general bag for all of my favorite pokemon for a while now, but then I started looking for more merch and some of my faves have a lot of good stuff, so I might have to give them their own bags.

I want to share my experience about buying some blind pack Merchs on Yahoo Auction.
Please do research to make sure the pack IS BLIND that people cannot figure out what character inside the pack.
I bought 10 YOI princess cafe 2 blind pack and found out that it is possible to know the character by touching it and feel the shape inside it. So the seller could picked the popular character out and sell the rest of them as blind pack.
As a result, I got 10 Merchs which 5 of them are popovich.

I have some really cute stickers I'd like to put on my bag so I've been looking into the resin doming technique. Is there anyone who's done it and wouldn't mind commenting on the sturdiness? The examples I've seen look like they're really thin, so I'm concerned they might just easily snap at some point in a regularly used bag. Or is resin a lot tougher than I assume?

It's not a sticker, but it's paper sandwiched between packing tape and domed on both sides with epoxy resin, the front being thicker. Being "laminated" with the tape gives it flexibility, as does just being thin in general. I wouldn't worry about it snapping.

Sorry for shit photo quality.
>>
>>9424864
Yeah if I did dark blue I could use my vinyl cutter to make stickers for the outside of the bag and they'd actually show up.

a somewhat related question....i got some vinyl stickers from redbubble that i'd like to use on a bag. i also have some flexible thin plastic (kind of like plastic manila folder material) that i was thinking about applying the stickers to. is this enough or do i really need to resin them? i was thinking maybe of mod podging over them instead, since i'm not terribly adept with resin and already have mod podge on hand.

Depending on the size, you might be able to find a mold that your stickers can fit into so you can make a full piece out of them like pic related. I also like to buy empty settings from the craft store, put my "laminated" sticker in them, and done resin on the top. Useful for fandom fashion accessories too!

Pic related is what I have for Vento Pol so far, it's not very impressive quantity wise like I said but they were rather difficult to find, and one is unofficial of course but I'm not picky. >>
>>9427796
I'll admit I used to buy a ton of straps from Taobao reject stores and most of my figures are used shops on Taobao and secondhand from Japanese eBay auctions, but that's because I couldn't afford much. Now I'm going solely secondhand auctions from Japanese eBay and Yahoo Japan auctions, and getting stuff from Surugaya because I didn't know I could find secondhand authentic merch so cheap. Now all I use Taobao for is cheap plushies to pad my bags with and fanmerch.

I think that's the issue that's happening a lot. People are used to only knowing about convention dealers room or online scalper prices. They don't know sites like surugaya or Yahoo Japan Auctions exist where you can get used goods for like 1/8th of the original cost without it being Chinese bootlegs.
>>
>>9427813

Kinokuniya opened up near me and I went yesterday--they had some Kara stuff reasonably priced. Are you looking for anything in particular? Might go back today.
>>
>>9427827
Pretty sure the reason is accessibility - bootlegs are available through aliexpress and ebay, as opposed to Japanese websites that require a shopping service. It can be daunting to put in that first order with a SS if you've never done it before, and if they're new to the community they might not feel comfortable jumping into a group order.

It's a baby weeb phase and it passes, and for the few it doesn't pass with feel free to cringe.

I actually really love hitting up Taobao for fan merch, though. There's a lot of really cute stuff from Chinese artists, so long as I make sure that the art style is consistent for the shop & I know they're not rip offs of another artist's design.
>>
>>9427902
Do you happen to have any links to shops you would recommend that you can be reasonably sure are run by the actual artist? Though they might not have the character I want I'd be interested to see. I would love to support them but I don't trust taobao at all for that sort of thing so I never bothered looking.

I sewed some... quilting wadding, (I think that's the word ?) on the inside, and I used two layers of that very stiff thing you put on the bottom of bags in order to make it less floppy. That really made a difference when it comes to giving the bag a nice shape !
>>
>>9428075
So cute! I'm envious of how tightly you can cut along the outline of the art... I had to do a big amorphous outline around my shrinky dinks, which isn't working out for more realistically proportioned images like the two you have in the lower right. Are you using a specific type of scissors?
>>
>>9428225
Thanks ! And no, just normal everyday scissors. Maybe the shrink film I use is thinner ? It's the Grafix Inkjet one that was recommended to me in the previous thread.
>>
>>9427668
Holy fuck anon I just saw the post you're talking about and it is such bullshit. If she got all of it in japan and none of it is limited merch then those prices are fucking bullshit.

>>9428163
There's lots of resource for sewing bags out there on crafting and sewing websites if you don't know how to get started. You can also probably find some tips around there too. "how to sew a (bag type) bag is probably a good google search to start with.

>>9428211
I think both of those things might be different type of interfacing, though I'm not too sure for the first one you mentioned.

>>
>>9428718
Cute! Also I don't know if it's just the glitter but those middle Yuri/Otabek charms (both in SP outfits, and the wedding? ones below) have really trippy faces. The top button with them eating takoyaki is super cute though.
>>
the ridiculousness in the sales group that someone is selling a bootleg wego bag for $25
>>
>>9427991
Not that anon but it's very easy to tell since original merch will usually have "authorized agent" if it's a shop that deals in Chinese artists. These shops only sell original merch too. Here's some of my links:

>>9427790
There's really not much we can do about it except call them out like you said. It's their items so they can price it however much they want as long as it's not bootlegs. It just bugs me that some newbie is gonna fall for it.

>>9428132
Yep. A Yurio tojicolle acrylic charm for $25? Fan merch for $25?? My brain is having a meltdown.

>>9428681
Yeah I can only justify those prices if it was limited edition and even then that's stretching it pretty far. They're pricing alot of items even higher then ebay.

Also, pardon my paranoid ass, but has anyone ordered from this person before? I ordered the mijuku dreamer hanamaru strap early last month and my idiot ass didn't get tracking, and I haven't heard anything from the seller since. I know they're in the UK and their feedback seems good, so I'm pretty sure I'm just worried for no reason, but I wanted to know if any gulls purchased from them or not.
>>
>>9428832
Man, I can't really explain all of them, but they're definitely an entertaining bunch. TO be more specific, I know a few people who like loner type characters like Ichimasu because they want to sheer them up and make them feel important/loved.

Long time no see gulls, have some unrelatable Japan-feels and my unchanging bag:

>Been living in Japan for around a month or so
>Akiba is in the way of my commute so basically a free Akiba-trip every day
>Still haven't made any progress on my bag because every piece of merch that I encounter I already own

I'm crying bitter tears. I had to order stuff off of Surugaya because no matter where I go I only see stuff that I already have. Namjatown's Yowapeda-event is coming in a couple weeks so at least there will be new stuff there.
At least the selection of base-bags is plentiful if i ever want to change things up. I've seen lot of interesting bags from some less known brands.

>>9428832
Probably because all of the characters are somewhat embarrassing and gross losers, each one on their own way. They grow into you because each of them has their flaws - at least that was what happened to me. I'm not a matsu-itabagger nor I intend to be, but Choromatsu best boi.
>>
>>9428843
YY is a very trusted seller here in the Uk and try their best to get you items you want, she managed to get me and friends some rare Love Live merch so she's trustworthy! For mailing to the US nothing seems to have gone wrong, just you might need to pay a chunk for shipping. Compared to others in this group though, her prices are good.

dumb question, but when zenmarket asks for your district, do they mean your county?

does anyone know when/if wego restocks bags? I have my eye on the black tote and black heart backpack but both are sold out (as are most other black bags).

I can really only see black or maybe white or red matching my character but most black bags are sold out and I'm afraid of white getting dirty. Maybe someone can attest to how easy to clean the white bags are?

I have a dilemma CGL and I was wondering if you could be of help.
I have one Ita base bag atm, it doubles as a neptune/uranus or eli bag depending on which slip I use.
It's a discontinued wego bag, a large fluffy light blue tote with a heart window. (Think the blue in the pastel heart backpacks)

Now, I really want to make a bag for Riko and Umi of love live, whose coloues are pink and royal blue respectively. But I only have money for one bag + merch, do you think royal blue would go with a baby blue bag and then buy a pink bag for riko, or would I be better to save up some more months to buy a new base for both?
>>
>>9428211
I don't have any advise either as I'm still gathering stuff for my own bag, but I wanted to say I'm thrilled to see this bag and its subject!

I realize she might've been busy, but I wish she would've said she didn't get it shipped as planned.
On the bright side, two of my packages from japan are in the states now, if found some official buttons for my robots bags, and I made a deal to get some custom husbando buttons at a local shop that owns a buttonmaker, so my bagging life is going pretty well!

>>9428211
It's looking really good anon! I really like what you did in the center with the cards and the rose. The only thing I would've done differently would be to mirror one of those shrinky dink sprites on it so they were both facing different directions, but that's just me. I feel like it's really going to come together nicely once you fill in all of the blank buttons/keychains and such!
>>
>>9429546
I'm so sorry! I'm the host, I've actually been quite sick for the past couple weeks, I managed to catch a nasty strain of Bronchitis and any sort of movement has been killer on my lungs so I've been a bit slower about getting things out than I normally would.

Sadly my husbando is so old and there is no merch out there, I have to buy bootleg merch to make an itabag with the little bit of official merch I have.
>TFW syaoran from Tsubasa Chronicles is your impossible husbando

If it's something like yoi, bna, or big shows or series like that then bootleg shouldn't even be an option with how easily merchandise is available to those series.

>>
I was thinking of popping open the jump rings to get the straps off and sewing on my charms with clear thread, would this be too barbaric to do to my merch?
>>
>>9430061
>>9429697
Thank you !!
I was unsure since light blue is Eli's image colour (as that was the original reason I got that bag ... ) I've put in an order for a pink swimmer bag for riko ~ I already have a tonne of merch for her.

That being said, I have some koi ni naritai keychains for Ruby and Hanamaru ( rubber straps) and kanan ( water ... snowglobe thing? )
If anyone would be interested ( selling roughly 4£ + shipping) lmk and I'll drop an email for them !
>>
>>9430359
Taking the straps off is actually pretty standard. You can definitely sew them down if you want but even just a safety pin through the jump ring works really well without the long strap.
>>
>>9430453
I just didn't want any visible metal parts like lobster clasps or even a subtle back-pinned safety pin, guess I'll go for it!
>>
>tfw anime store finally opens up in my city

I seriously doubt it. It looked like someone bought the first five pages of whatever comes up when you search for "anime keychain" on Alibaba/eBay/taobao. It was insane. The prices were what really got me. Those tacky 99 cent + free shipping dome necklaces (like pic related- sorry to shit up the thread) being sold for $10 to $20 depending on the series. I just can't believe it had a perfect 5 star review. Normies don't know any better I guess.

"I've got everything from Japan and I marked all of it down!"

>YOI Rubber strap is $25

also

>"I'm splitting my charm set but the 3 most popular characters are taken"

I'm not into YOI but I feel bad for all the people making bags and having to spend a ridiculous amount of money for charms and not being able to find certain charms. But then again, there's so much merch there that it might not even be a problem?
>>
>>9431730
It just makes me glad I'm not into big FOTS shows. The bottom comment isn't really terrible though because they're still putting out yoi merch in droves, and nothing's stopping people from getting popular character merch themselves.
